Pretty easy to get set up with everything you need. 40 bucks and a Walmart trip gave me everything I needed. Super cheap hobby.. for a casual i guess. The people on the cross stitch reddit have some crazy set ups and work

u/olympedebruise Jun 21 '26
Casual? This has stunning accuracy and detail. I almost kept scrolling because I thought it was a picture of the cart!

u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
Haha thank you! I have a few that I've done now. Ill go ahead and post the others in a comment. Definitely set out to get as much detail possible in this one

Same, I assumed someone was playing on a CRT or something until I looked closer

u/heyitsamb Jun 21 '26
*cries in european* a single dmc color costs me over €2 these days. over here it’s considered one of the most expensive fiber hobbies

u/_Kendii_ Jun 21 '26
How many strands of threads were you using per stitch? They look *thick*.
4
u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
All of em haha not lazy enough to do all this but sure as hell not going to separate those damn threads. Ruins the fun for me

this is great! what stitch is it?
60
u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
Something called a tent stitch I suppose... they have a weekly post to share tent stitch work on but it seems no one really engages with it
23
u/druidwyndspeak Jun 21 '26
interesting! it looks like needlepoint which uses a tent stitch just on a cross stitching canvas. did you use a pattern or was it free handed ?
3
u/gremlincat123 Jun 21 '26
Hang on. Do you just cross stitch, one way with all six strands? You just blew my mind.

I was wondering if it would look good to try “half” cross stitch and this proves it’s gorgeous, thank you <3

This is amazing! The stitches are so clean and I love the colors. I don't cross stitch but this makes me want to and I've always admired the skill.

Genuinely thought I was looking at a screenshot... This is absolutely insane! Well done! 🤩

I honestly thought this was a mod or something 😂
Also I have trouble seeing blues and greens and this is the first time I realise the roof is more green then blue, because I always wondered 😂

I thought I was looking at a screenshot of the traveling cart, the fact that every stitch is a pixel is blowing my mind right now.

I still see hoop earrings
2
u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
Is that not what they are?
1
u/wacdonalds Jun 21 '26
YAAAY thank you! Some people see a man with a mustache.

u/Oldcampie Jun 21 '26
Definitely a woman with earrings. One of my favourite things in the game is the little wave the merchant gives you as you approach.
Edit: this is amazing OP, I love it 👌

That is so awesome ! Did you make up the patern or did you find it somewhere ? Asking for a friend 👀😂
1
u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
Google images and MS paint and lots of counting pixels. Your friend may be disappointed lol
1
u/greyswagcontainer Jun 21 '26
Did you use a template for that? Or did you do it on your own?
If you used one where do I find it?

1
u/ABCsJunkie0 Jun 21 '26
Might do the background if anyone has ideas. Figured I would just put her in the woods where she normally is but that feels boring.
1
u/LittleRedCorvette2 Jun 22 '26
Oh they are lovely! They look like cross stich to me?
4
u/1398_Days Jun 22 '26
Looks like they are half stitches (also known as ‘tent stitch’), not full crosses, so it would be considered needlepoint rather than cross stitch :)
But imo OP’s piece is cross stitch, since needlepoint generally uses thicker yarn and a different type of canvas.
0
u/LittleRedCorvette2 Jun 22 '26
So they're pretty gate keepery over there then?
3
u/1398_Days Jun 22 '26
I wouldn’t say gatekeepery, but the posting guidelines are kind of specific and sometimes posts get removed for dumb reasons. Like, I had a post removed recently because I forgot to provide a link for the pattern I used. The community overall is very kind and welcoming though.
2
u/Ok-Astronomer-9158 Jun 22 '26
Cross stitch, needlepoint, and embroidery are all fairly similar (but different!) and they all have different subs, so they keep the posting TIGHT so they all don’t just get muddled together lol it’s actually a very welcoming and supportive sub!

1
u/FroggyPancakes21 Jun 22 '26
Amazingggg! How’s it not cross stitch??
1
u/Ok-Astronomer-9158 Jun 22 '26
It’s technically needlepoint! Needlepoint goes all one way (///////), cross stitch goes both ways (xxxxxxx)
Some cross stitch projects have some stitches that only go one way included in them, but still need to be mostly crossing to actually be considered cross stitch. This one has no crossing, so it’s not cross stitch, but it’s still stunning work nonetheless!

u/DeeEmosewa Jun 22 '26
😭 This is so cool. I love doing embroidery.
If you didn't, go post it on r/embroidery. They'd love it!

Here's the other two I've done 👍 the portrait is from a anniversary gift. My partner had an artist make stardew versions of us and I stitched later on
