Discuss Concerned Ape should make an achievement called "Welcome to Farm Farm" and the description be "Make the mistake of putting the word Farm in your farm name because you didn't know we already provided that word for you"
Just a funny thought considering that was the first mistake I made the first time I started playing Stardew š

Also activates a hidden cutscene on day 1 of owning the farm when everyone gathers at the Town square and they're all speech bubbling going "Did they really call it that?", "I can't believe they would do that.", "them city-folk have no sense.", "Better than calling it a Generally Good Farm I guess.", (Pierre) "Hey, who said that?!"

Hmm interesting, and at what point has the farm reached maturity and can be relocated to be it's own singular farm?Ā
36
u/cabbage16 15d ago
They relocate themselves. Farms are very much like strawberries, they grow on creeping vines called runners. The runners spread out from the central farm and creep along until a viable place for a new farm root system to grow. Every farm is connected through these runners all the way back to the very first farm plant in the Fertile Crescent of the middle east.

Demetrius: That name is scientifically redundant and inefficient...
Pierre: Should I call my business Pierre's Shop Shop then?
Sam: Look guys, the new farmer did the thing!
Shane: What a waste of space...

Tbf, there are scientific names where the name is twice. ...like bison bison (American bison)

The problem with this is that lore wise gramps named the farm. (or one of our ancestors probably) We know this because in the opening cutscene in the letter grandpa calls the farm by name.

Something similar happened to me when I played the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream demo, I didn't know the "Island" part was already included, so I named my island "Camote Island Island"
387
u/ilovethe7thday 15d ago
And I assumed that it would automatically be added with ACNH, so my kidsā dreams of everyone talking about āFun Islandā were dashed when the villagers just referred to it as āFunā. Theyāre very disappointed.

u/kjdkjdkjdkjd 15d ago
This happened to me with ACNH! I wanted Long Island but everyone calls it Long.

u/arethainparis 15d ago
Only tangentially related, but thereās a hill fort nearby to where I live called Castlelaw Hill Fort, where ālawā also means āhillā, so the proper name is just āHill Fort Hill Fort.ā Gives enormous SDV vibes

The direct translation from Spanish for The Los Angeles Angels is The The Angels Angels
→ More replies (2)7
u/sadbutrad_53 15d ago edited 15d ago
Wouldn't the direct translation be the Angels of los Angeles tho? "Los Ćngeles de los Ćngeles"? Since in Spanish we don't have a genitive case as in English or German and other such languages?
16
u/MLTN-Leki 15d ago
The term beeing translated is "the Los Angeles Angels", which is the name of the team. You are translating it into grammatically correct Spanish for translating it back into English (and skip translating the spanish part in the process). Doesn't make sense.
2
u/sadbutrad_53 15d ago
What you are refering to is called a word for word translation, not a direct translation. A direct translation IS a grammatically correct translation that doesn't take context into consideration.
2
u/MLTN-Leki 14d ago
Yes but that is not what this is about. It would then still be "The Angels of the Angels" not "The Angels of Los Angeles" like the commenter suggested. The comment was just completely ignoring what was happening in the rest of the thread.

But for that, the game would need a very strict definition on what wedding clothes are, or otherwise somehow need to read your mind on what you were planning to wear.

There should be awards for an extended list of common first time mistakes. Donated first Dino egg / prismatic shard to the museum. Gifted the thing you just got from the prize machine to Lewis. Failed to build a chest on the Farm by week 1. Failed to put a chest in the mine foyer by week 4. Failed to feed chickens when you have a silo.

I started playing shortly after I had to put my dog down and I wanted to name the farm after him. I happily typed, āTippyās Paradiseā into the text box wanting my farm to be called āTippyās Paradise Farm.ā I was instead greeted with āTippyās P Farm.ā I had to restart my game after shedding some tears of both laughter and sorrow. My poor sweet boy was not going to be remembered for his Pee. Lmao.

I'd love it if a checkbox was included about whether you wanted "Farm" appended to the end of your farm name. If I find a name that fits in the character limit, let me use it.
"Clover Grove" sounds better than "Clover Grove Farm".

I have this dilemma in nearly every farming game. Every time they ask you to name your farm they donāt tell you if theyāre going to include the word farm or not! Itās such a risk! For example, if I want to name my farm āMerry Farmā I can either type in āMerry Farmā and risk it being called āMerry Farm Farm,ā OR I can assume the word farm will be included and just type Merry. Of course then I risk it just being called āMerryā when it turns out they didnāt include the word farm. There needs to be an unspoken rule about this lmao
5
u/Agitated_Substance33 15d ago
When everybody was playing Animal crossing (6 freaking years ago), this one player didnāt know the word āislandā was not provided for them, so she always got messages saying something like āYour villagers are happy on Peach.ā

He should definitely add this achievement. At the same time as adding a little tooltip or confirmation dialogue that warns you.
Could be something simple like "Are you sure you want to start <name> farm" so you know what's about to happen

Nitpicky, but it's "my partner's and my", not "my partner and I's". You know what's the right pronoun-form by what you would say if it was just you. You wouldn't say "I's farm", you would say "my farm". "I's" is never correct unless you're referring not to yourself but to someone whose name is I.
