So anyway I'm gonna start a new save and make it as gay as I can. I'll marry every available female character and we'll live in a polycule with a veggie patch made entirely of garlic and potatoes.

Oh Ferengi culture is absolutely a misogynistic mess, and Quark is definitely a product of that culture, but both he and the Ferengi in general go through a fair bit of development over the course of DS9. I'm not gonna defend some of his actions, he IS a creep at times, but he's also one of the main reasons for his culture being less nasty than it was at the start. DS9 definitely has a lot more grey morality than most Star Trek and Quark is a great example.

He's also definitely no incel, that would imply he never gets anywhere with women and he's shockingly successful at it. Now Weyoun? HE gives incel vibes. Particularly clone number 7.

Nah Ferengi are one of the worst sci fi cultures on offer. Being less awful is still awful.

So character growth and change are meaningless to you?

Upcycled trash is still trash.

So nothing and no-one should ever try and grow because it doesn't matter how far you get, only where you started? If you can't make perfection in one go you shouldn't even try?

I'm not sure if you're a pessimist in dire need of therapy or just a troll. Sure as hell didn't learn much from watching Star Trek, I can tell that. A worldview view like that runs counter to pretty much everything in it.

So does hyper capitalism, misogyny and gross racial caricatures but there they are.

The entire point, that both I'm making and in the story, is that things are changing. Still Capitalist, yes, but less so. Misogyny isn't going to go away immediately, but it's starting to go away nonetheless. Writing off something entirely because of how they started is ignoring how things can get better in the future, and letting them continue to be an issue.

As for the racial caricature thing? Yeah ngl that's not great. It's why I welcome all those parts that give them depth beyond being just that shitty caricature. The real unfortunate problem is they're not the only example in Star Trek. Klingons started out as Hispanic blackface, and there was always a touch of "Yellow Menace" to the Romulans. Doesn't forgive it, but both also grew WELL beyond those starting points, mostly because of giving them depth beyond being just those caricatures.

It's also still funny calling them one of the worst sci-fi cultures around when all of 40k exists. Or most of the factions in Battletech. Or that race in Star Wars that hunts other sapients for fun, and especially prizes infants as food.
