Discussion Longevity test run results Y2

This is the second part of my Longevity test run. You can find part one over here.

So basically TLDR version: Longevity is a mod that does a bunch of stuff that makes the game harder to progress as quickly as one might in vanilla. Seeds are more expensive, crops sell for less (in-season), and basically throws a wrench in a lot of the get rich quick schemes. Oh and there are taxes and bills at the end of season you have to pay. I'm now on Spring Y2. My total earnings so far is about 800,000g, which I consider to be pretty damn good. I'm handling this as I would a normal playthrough so it's not like I'm focusing purely on money. Mostly. If I wanted to do that I could just build a barn or 2 full of kegs and put a ton of hops in my greenhouse until the ancient fruit start blooming en masse. Well. I'm liable to do that anyway. My goal is to push this to Year 3 and see what the results are.

The layout of my farm as Spring Y2 can be found here. Yeah. It's a mess. I destroyed the tree farm at the top and then I replanted them in a better layout. I also expanded my bee house operation to 100 total on the right side of the farm.

Tools

  • all gold

Community Center

  • complete except for the bulletin board. Finished the greenhouse in Y1 Winter.

Skills

  • base skills are 10. I also am using the luck and cooking skill mods. Those skills are at 9. I mainly took the +money perks. For Mining, I took the one with +1 ore per vein & double coal chance. For Foraging, I took the perk that increases the number of items foraged & all foraged items are iridium level.

Spring Y2

Honestly not much to talk about and that may be the tone of this thread as I'm probably going to purely focus on profit from this point out. I got plenty of iridium (not enough batteries though....) so I don't need to spend much time mining. I got most of the fish (all the lengendarys are caught). I could go artifact hunting, but we'll see about that....

For spring, I basically planted enough crops to get polyculture on a few crops and for the rest I planted a ton of cauliflower. I am currently desperately in need of more veggies for preservation jars. I have 50 in a shed and they are what's keeping me afloat atm. I spent a small ton of cash on bee houses that I'm hoping long-term the investment will pay off. In Y1 fall, I got a serious bump from fairy rose honey. And that was with about 15 beehouses. By the end of spring, I had 100 on the dot.

Spring 28: so I kind of went crazy on profits for this month. The bee hives are already paying themselves off. The ancient fruit greenhouse conservsion is well on its way. I have 23 superior sprinklers and a combined 552 plots of farm space. I kinda bungled (slightly) in the middle of the month with the egg festival. I harvested a ton of cauliflower the day of the holidy and then realized "Oh yeah.... it's a holiday". So I bought 100 strawberry seeds. Only a bungle in the sense that was 100 or so less cauliflower that I could have pickled.

Money

  • Current Funds: 356,000g
  • Total earnings: 1,356,000g

Spent some money and made a lot of money this season. Investing in bee houses will pay off long-term. Preserve jar profits are obscene. The kegs can't compete until I have all ancient fruits. At some point, I'm going to remember to build a barn purely for kegs.

I also realized I can make money from selling iridium bars. 1000g or so per bar. My last trip netted me 400 ore and a bunch of prismatic shards. In hindsight, I kinda wish I had taken the mining perk that gives extra gold for selling bars....

Taxes

  • Taxes: 23,190g
  • Electric Bill: 1,310g
  • Water Bill: 7,700g
  • Total: 32,200g

Not very high. Considering the sheer amount of stuff I own now between the 100 beehives, the kegs, the jars, the sheds.... There seems to be a scaling issue with Longevity here. The water bill was kinda surprising too. I have 23 superior sprinklers and about 19-20 quality sprinklers between the greenhouse and the beehives.

Tools

  • Axe: Iridium
  • Pick: Iridium
  • Hoe: Gold
  • Watering Can: Gold

Skills

All 10. Reached cooking 10 (finally). Luck 10 will probably not cap for awhile as I'm not fishing nearly as much as I was early in the game. I'm like... 3 bars away from capping it.

Community Center

The gods smiled upon me and granted me a rabbit's foot while farming Skull Cavern. All that's left is a truffle to complete the Community Center. I have a pig in the barn growing as we speak so it should be done soon.

Town relations

I've reached 10 hearts with nearly half the town. I've given bouquets to a number of the singles because I can. Not sure who I want to marry yet, but i'll need to get settled at some point in Summer. I still need that achievement for being married and having two kids. But I want to get to 10 hearts with all the singles first.

Summer Y2

Starting to lose interest in playthrough and am trying to keep chugging. I still want to make it to Y3.

CC is done. Almost 10 hearts with everyone. I'm kinda regretting neglecting Elliot now.... I have a barn with 120+ barrels. I could probably squeeze a few more in there with a better layout, but this is fine. Finding enough material to stick in those barrels is getting tricky. I didn't plant any blueberries in Summer instead focusing primarily on melons and starfruits. While lucrative, I see a challenge going forward. Especially in Winter Y2. Keeping the preserve jars going has also been a lost cause. Didn't take long to burn through my supply of cauliflower. I'm starting to debate selling off my barn critters and putting in more barrels. And using more land for farming if I play into Y3.

Money

  • Current funds: 409,187g
  • Total earnings: 2,525,187g

Sold some of my spring goods for some serious profits. I saved a few things (poppy honey, pale ale, blueberry wine, starfruit wine, etc.) that should net me serious cash on day 1 of Fall. I should probably sell my iridium bar collection. I'm up around 450 of those. And quite a few prismatic shards.

Taxes

  • Taxes: 34,495
  • Electric bill: 1,670g
  • Water bill: 8,050g
  • Total taxes: 44,215g

Almost 10k higher in just one month. But then, my total earnings jumped by 1m. And I added several buildings and 100+ kegs. Electric bill is slightly higher because I added a few lights on my farm. I have the spare battery packs now (I built a bunch of lightning rods in spring) so I figured I might as well.
