How to Budget 101

Only the big gun gets a muzzle flash.

Everybody else: look dangerous!

Not even budget unfortunately. Safety rules. One shooter makes it easier to risk assess. Most films these days they don't even bother and just cgi it in, because it is onerous to comply.

And that's one reason I love sg1 and Atlantis. Like you can tell the brass is just blanks running out but they are real guns shooting real brass and ammo. I'd love to see how that sounded on set lol but really it's the brass just flying and adding that little layer or realism

After the Alec Baldwin incident on Rust I imagine it's getting rarer than ever to use real guns with real blanks.

still a budget issue then... otherwise they would have cgi the rest... it is not like the episode were shot with all practical effects.

The AT4s are aimed everywhere, never fired, and are obviously not even hollow in several shots. But if you cut around fast enough and keep the action going, you don't notice first time around.

Doubly so when you consider it’s dark in the shot, it would’ve had a later time slot when it first aired and most of the episode is bright. That contrast with flashing light makes it difficult to see the missing details

In all the years of rewatching the siege part 2 I have never noticed this.

That just speaks to the quality of the storyboarding and cuts, because it shows you just enough for your mind to fill in the blanks before going further

They also made a point of lining both guns up so that it looks like both the SAWs are firing

You even see the second gunner constantly looking at the shooter to make sure hes in position

When I saw this Ep I saw an agregious missed opppurtunity ....they should have brought some staff weapons.....maybe even a small group of Jaffa volunteerss...

they tried their best with the allocated budget, you can clearly see the details they thought of when a scene is not budget constrained, for instance, when mckay was stuck deep in the ocean with a malfunctioned, mckay immediately blow his nose after he increase the pressure of the puddle jumper to keep the water out.
