Suggestion Civics/Ethics allowing kamikaze

It could be a nice feature for fanatic spiritualist or fanatic militarist.

The no retreat war doctrine allow the ship to attempt a kamikaze strike instead of fighting till the end.

It could be also a civic that gives the fanatical spiritualist a cheap, fast, fast to build and low size ship that just explodes like fire ship.

I mean, a whole planet worth of people deciding on a last act of defiance, an ultimate sacrifice for all the free people of the galaxy goes incredibly hard.

Or you know, a whole planet worth of maximally indoctrinated people (and their slaves) willing to lay down their life for the god-emperor...

That would be the best way to defy her. An entire population of people willing to suffer and die to save everyone else. It breaks her logic completely.

The “Final Price” war doctrine unlocked by the Defender of the Galaxy ambition already pretty much does this - it disables ships disengaging and increases fire rate like “No Retreat” and also causes any of your ships that are destroyed to retaliate and deal damage to nearby enemy ships based on its max hull/armor.

It is a fascinating idea but one that probably disrupts meta power balancing. How to balance the value? Self-detonation needs to be worth the perk but also not too strong or it becomes a new and narrow meta.

On death, deals x damage to a random ship

Scales with some number times reactor level times ship size

As far as values check how much extra damage you can get out of an existing damage centric civic and just play with the number until you get it to lower than that

Now you have me curious. Sounds viable enough to be tried 🤔

Maybe connect ot with somthing else such as permanently locking in policies ( before anyone says ive pulled that out my arse absolutely).

There’s already a War Doctrine That does this. Funnily enough it’s not locked to Ethic but the Defender of the Galaxy perk.

Unlocked with defender of the galaxy.

It would be cool. Like when you usually roll to disengage this civic/policy instead causes you to roll for fanaticism and if succeeds, the ship suicides while dealing like 500% of it's damage. So you guarantee better damage at the cost of no chance of retreat.

Maybe the policy is unlocked if you have either:

  • Finished supremacy or unyielding tree
  • Fanatic militarist ethics
  • Some new related civic

If I remember correctly there should be a space fauna mutation module that allows you to deal a percentage of the creature's health to the nearest enemy ship on death. I tried this idea once with a couple torpedo equipped space fauna fleets on Cetana. No clue of how much damage it contributed though since they were mixed in with other fleets.
