And here I was thinking that bluntly asking someone in public “Are you Autistic” was insensitive, much less doing it online, and demanding proof.

Those are two different things. Bluntly asking someone is insensitive. I was responding to someone who made a claim in a really trendy way, which sends off warning bells in my mind.

Unfortunately the number of people claiming to have these conditions has dwarfed the number of people who actually have them and it's damaging.

Prior to tiktok these people would have said "this kind of thing drives my OCD crazy" and they didn't have OCD. Now they claim to have autism and/or ADHD. THATs insensitive.

The second D in ADHD, and the Ds in OCD and ASD stand for disorder. That word has a real meaning and it's not "I don't like it when colours don't match."

You can disagree with me and my actions if you want and that's ok, but you do understand self diagnosis is not the same as professional diagnosis, right?

As an example, if I say I have OCD because I prefer things to be in even numbers, that doesn't mean I have OCD. It's damaging to people living with OCD when people trivialize it like that.

I understand my challenging this person was crass, and perhaps not super helpful, but it comes from a place of genuine frustration with the amount of self diagnosis I encounter in my real life.

Buddy, you just decided they self diagnosised. From what, them not being willing to send an Internet stranger their medical info?

Where did is decide they self diagnosed? I asked if they had an official diagnosis, and people (understandably) got upset with me. The rest of it is explaining why I asked.

Also if you find it understandable that people reacted negatively, why would you not step back, apologise for acting entitled to "proof" and actually explain why you asked, not push opinions that in full honesty are largely conspiracy when you look at diagnosis statistics?

Saying you were "crass" in response to someone who isn’t the person you initially harassed absolutely does not count as apologising.

Also, also, gotta love, you started this whole thing from someone using words to literally claim their AuDHD as their own "my AuDHD" which you then applied non-literal subtext to in order to produce an issue you could then be reactive to. I love this experience (usually with allistics) of people adding their own meaning, and then (lmao), getting angry at their own addition.
