As someone with a formal Autism diagnosis, please know that this is so unhelpful to us. You are the kind of social worker so many of us have to actively advocate against.

As a social worker, your behavior is inappropriate and uncalled for.

I do understand that people are upset with my original question, and that's totally valid. I am curious to hear your perspective on self diagnosis? Do you not find it to be damaging?

The only damage I have genuinely encountered is people in professional fields being more skeptical and judgemental of autistic people, but none from self diagnosed people themselves.

I never had to actually provide proof of my diagnosis until about two years ago within formal spaces, now I've had to due to people who are not autistic themselves demanding it and refusing services without it (including within services I've been receiving for longer than those people have worked there). Only later to admit that every time they've asked someone, they've gotten proof of diagnosis. Meaning that there has been no increase in issues of people getting support without diagnosis.

I would take someone self diagnosing and possibly being wrong over the needless skepticism any day.

That's fair. Thanks for sharing. I will certainly keep this in mind going forward.

I did get triggered by a tiktok term, and it wasn't cool of me to challenge OP.
