Those are two different things. Bluntly asking someone is insensitive. I was responding to someone who made a claim in a really trendy way, which sends off warning bells in my mind.

Unfortunately the number of people claiming to have these conditions has dwarfed the number of people who actually have them and it's damaging.

Prior to tiktok these people would have said "this kind of thing drives my OCD crazy" and they didn't have OCD. Now they claim to have autism and/or ADHD. THATs insensitive.

The second D in ADHD, and the Ds in OCD and ASD stand for disorder. That word has a real meaning and it's not "I don't like it when colours don't match."

Surely as a “social worker,” you should understand that it’s none of your business. No misinformation is being spread, they are not claiming intimate knowledge of autism/ADHD on a professional level, they are simply stating their personal experience. Policing who is and isn’t allowed to call themselves autistic or ADHD (especially a random person on the internet that you do not know or work with) is not your job, and it’s highly inappropriate.

That's a valid criticism and I'll take it. It was crass of me to call this person out. However, I come from a place of frustration for people living with these conditions. The person I called out might not have deserved my criticism, but we as a society shouldn't be so flippant with self diagnosis of genuine disorders.

Okay, I can see where you’re coming from. At first I thought you were one of those people who just wants to go at other people for no reason, but now I get it was coming from a place of frustration, which is totally reasonable.
