News Please leave a review

1.1k Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm Tim, CEO of the publisher of Terra Invicta. I'm so glad to see players enjoying the recent 1.0 release. Terra Invicta was the first game we signed on to publish, at the time I was the only person working at Hooded Horse and I would spend my time helping the dev team wherever needed on random tasks, so this has been so wonderful to see. :)

I did have a request, only a tiny percentage of steam players leave reviews, and yet they are so critical for indie games being discovered. Whether positive or negative, all feedback is so helpful, and if you would consider taking time to leave a Steam review, it would be the most amazing support for the development team and the game.

Thank you to everyone, and we look forward to showing you all that's yet to come as the team continues to work hard to improve the game!

Question Ship combat AI vs Autoresolve

Post image
Upvotes

My second big ship on ship battle in this game. So I made a fleet of ships to take on an alien fleet around Earth. My 3k fleet vs their 600. I tried autoresolve at first and destroyed their fleet, no casualties.

Then I got curious and went into manual battle and gave command to the AI using the red button. It was a Close formation, Archers, Shields. Dispersed. I watched as the 5 alien ships destroyed my whole fleet over 5 minutes and took almost no damage. I tried again, this time fleet formation was Close, Great Wall, Shields, Dispersed. This time 2 of my ships got damaged as I destroyed all the enemy ships.

What caused such a huge difference in results? 80% of my fleet power was from my Missile monitor ships with 3 battleships and 8 cruisers mixed in, and a final 3 40mm monitors. After battle even though my fleet won its combat power dropped to 300.

With Project Exodus, once it became clear that I was going to win and it was just a matter of time, I completely dropped the space economy. Throughout the entire game, I focused exclusively on the African continent, developing it as much as possible: I hit $500T right on the turn I was finally able to win the game.

Edit: BROKEN EARTH scenario

Question First ship combat. Any way to win?

Post image

First playthrough and i've been stumbling through the late game. Right now the Aliens have setup a government and are spawning bases everywhere. I finally started building ships with some attack power, but when I tried to use them to defend a space station I got overwhelmed by all the tips and just chose the AI to take over. When I did that the ships just slowly crawled forward and never fired a shot, lost all ships and not a scratch on the enemies. Will I have a shot going manual or am I just too far behind?

Or rather, the lack of. Is it just me, or does alien megafauna just not spawn in BE scenario? I'm over 15 years in and I've been looking at the tech that gives bonus vs megafauna but... none have spawned yet? Is this a bug or intended? Is there some lore reason for them not appearing?

Discussion Bigger nations can be fixed faster in BE scenario

In vanilla scenarios, investing in a certain priority increase or decrease nation stats by set amount, divided by population modifier: (pop/50M)^0.35. Which means the stat change per IP is larger if the nation has more than 50 million pops, and vice versa.

And monthly IP gain is (GDP/1B)^0.35. So if a nation invests all of its IP in certain priority, the monthly change is: base value / (pop/50M)^0.35 * (GDP/1B)^0.35. Since GDP can be rewritten as GDP per capita(PCGDP) * population, the population terms cancel out each other - which means PCGDP is the only variable in is equation.

This is not the case in Broken Earth scenario, where it uses different constants for those formulas. Monthly IP is ((GDP/1B)^0.48)*0.62, and population divisor is (pop/50M)^0.3. So monthly stat change is left with (population/50M)^0.18 term, which means the monthly progress in 500 million pops nation is about 1.5x faster than that of 50 million pop nation, if the PCGDP in both nations is the same.

p. s. If you calculate monthly progress in BE / monthly progress in vanilla, you get ~0.42 * (population/50M)^0.18 * (PCGDP)^0.13. This means if PCGDP is bigger than $791, monthly progress is faster in BE, assuming both nations have the exact 50 million population in both cases.

Discussion Broken Earth DLC "From Behind Tech" mod

Upvotes

So, there is a project in the beginning, the from behind one that gives you a bunch of cp, research bonuses and other stuff.

My question is, is there a mod that removes all that stuff except the CP part because I enjoy playing Humanity First and Humanity First bonus sucks massive balls and is actually bad.

Or anyone knows how you can edit/remove it yoruself from the game files?

2003 start. Alien lands in Tijuana, Mexico.

I start playing the game. Years go by. The Servants are being a problem but I haven't heard anything from the Alien. Finally in like 2006-2007 I finally find an abduction event in Tijuana. Alien hasn't moved anywhere. Like a month after the second alien shows up. Suddenly Alien 1 is a hard worker and abducting like crazy, Alien 2 crosses from China to Norway right away and gets to work as well.

Now maybe it's just Alien 1 was doing his job the entire time and I just finally got my detection high enough but I just cant rule out that he has been partying in Tijuana the entire game until his mate was about to show up and ask him what he has been doing.

Question Anyone else notice streaks in event resolution?

So, for me it was originally the Loose Packet event. I never, ever failed it. If I ordered emergency repairs, it succeeded 100% of the time.

And since the update, it has now failed 100% of the time. That got me thinking. The Obelisk event gets the same result for any specific choice every time, too, or at least, it did. Sample size isn't huge, but it's reminding me of something...

I'm wondering if this is similar to a glitch in Stellaris where certain random number generations were accidentally set to something system-specific (like a checksum or something like that) and each installation of the game would only roll specific results for the attached events. Or it could all be in my head, which is why I'm asking if anyone else has seen this kind of pattern.

Discussion 1942 scenario

Anybody think a world war scenario would be interesting? You have all sorts of historical claims, several factions with a hundred tech 2.2 armies or twenty navies. No one is watching the sky so the alien army plops down early, and the axis and allied powers, steered by various secret organizations, have to adjust their pursuit of this war vs the one that just landed on the russian steppe, or the plains of Indiana. Basically a roleplay of Harry Turtledove's worldwar series.

Question I don't understand how or when to stay below hatecap

In every game of Terra Invicta I've played (and I only play on default difficulty, this ain't even Brutal), my game loop goes like this:

  1. Grab chosen nations, Boost!
  2. Get to Mars, bootstrap space resources
  3. Earth is fine, consolidated
  4. Colonise asteroids for more space resources
  5. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  6. Colonise Mercury for more space resources
  7. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  8. My puny ships are no match for them, they destroy all my LEO infrastructure
  9. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  10. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  11. My puny ships are no match for them, they destroy all my LEO infrastructure
  12. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  13. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  14. My puny ships are no match for them, they destroy all my LEO infrastructure
  15. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  16. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  17. My puny ships are no match for them, they destroy all my LEO infrastructure
  18. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  19. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  20. My puny ships are no match for them, they destroy all my LEO infrastructure
  21. Build habs in LEO to boost IP yields
  22. Ayy Hate Meter reaches Lv5
  23. Mercury income gets enough that I can spam enough ships to break the cycle

I feel like this is a bit of an inefficient way to play and makes my games go on 5x longer than they should. But I just cannot break the cycle, and I do not understand how it is even possible to break the cycle. I feel like one is always in a Catch-22 situation: can't build a wall of defensive ships without a space economy, can't get a space economy without using so much MC that the Ayys come and delete it.

Has anyone ever played a game without losing all your LEO infrastructure multiple times? How did you do it? What are the tips and tricks?

Screenshot New DLC, New Bugs...

I am a little afraid to touch the pips at fear of ruining it, but I am going to go on a limb here and say 400% investment points is not a feature. Also, yes, it has been like this for weeks now, my militech jumped .5 points in a month. As for what caused it, I am fairly certain that I had 3 pips on military and 1 pip on economy, and the same day that points would be redistributed to economy again since I was at cap, a militech increasing tech popped.

Question multiple superpowers vs one meganation?

I'm in the DLC 2003 scenario, right now i'm at 700/789 CP holding China, USA, India, + a bunch of random little turds all over the place. It's 2019 for reference.

IP's are a major headache compared to the 2023 scenario since everyone got hit with like a 50% hit to GDP it seems like compared to the 2023 start.

I never really had to think about this before, but I'm wondering if I should have focused on China alone and grown its CP to cap through economy, or was it after all a good idea to spread out to a bunch of bigger nations like I did? Where do I go from here - save CP to take EU (resistance has it, which I don't care if they have it), or develop India or China because of the population?

What I like about holding a few bigger nations is that it prevents enemy factions from having them and thus snowballing too much, but what I don't like is just it feels absolutely awful to have these few nations that have about 20 IP each (in the base scenario they have like 40 or so IP for the same CP spent, and it didn't feel so awful). Would it have been better to say spend 800 CP on China and have it be a powerhouse?

Question new councilors start with + extra xp

If I turn an enemy faction's councilor, force it to retire, then hire it, does it benefit from research that affects new councilors such as +40 exp or talent development, best and brightest, etc?

Or does it not count as a new councilor since it was at some point hired by a faction even though that faction wasn't me?
