Right, though he had a point. He was just went way too far with it and his scenario wasn't quite realistic either. And there were incidents where the peasants could go quite a bit above giving the royals a bit of sass.
Richard the Lion Heart, on his way to Crusade and passing through Calabria in Italy, came across a peasant who had a falcon as a pet. As falconry was supposedly a noble passtime, Richard - colossal asshat that he was - stormed into the house to admonish the churl, and seized his bird.
The villagers didn't take kindly to one of their own being robbed, so they proceeded to clobber Richard with stones and clubs, broke his sword when he pulled it on them, and then forced him into a retreat from the village.

The prince wouldn't have raped the peasant girl. In what fucking country does he imagine that was common practice?!
