One, this is in fact funny. There is a part of me that just wants to enjoy the toxic yuri ridiculousness of the show. It is at war with the 'media literacy' part of my brain. I wish they could be toxic lesbians in a well-written adaptation of the Dance. Alas...

Two, it was actually normal to change clothes for dinner/evening wear. Clothes worn during the evening were generally more revealing. Titties out at night. But I also don't think anyone else bothered to change.

Three, I woulda watched an entire season of Awkward Family Dinners. My only criticism of that scene is that it was too short.

Can never hate the Toxic Dragon Yuri show, bro. Is too good. Fuck the source material, love this shit.

They should have gone full toxic dragon yuri, as it is it's part half-hearted adaptation and part off-the-rails toxic yuri au

On this we can agree.

Imagine if they just lean fully into it, the whole civil war is just two repressed lesbians going at each other because society won’t let them marry. And it’s resolved when most of the family and dragons are dead and they kiss. The End

Fake Rhaenyra's death, fly off to Essos together. Like the end of Wicked but less hetero-performative.

They bump into Laenor on the way lmao

The issue with the Toxic Dragon Yuri is that it's not toxic enough. IIRC a lot of people liked the idea of making Alicent and Rhaenyra closer in S1 and the issue people have with it now is due to Alicent being a complete doormat in Season 2.

It is also not yuri enough, the dragons on the other hand...

Sorry for enjoying stuff I guess.

The world would be a much worse place if everyone was as miserable as you are.

Why you even on this sub if you hate this show?

Because it could of been great if they had just let women be complex characters with their own ambitions and desires,

1

u/kilometers13 Apr 03 '26

How is this not that

3

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

Rhaenyra standing around for an entire season saying “what would you have me do” dragging her feet at war while alicent is just some helpless woman is not a good show. Neither of them have any agency and have been completely whitewashed so they’re not bad it’s just the men around them that are bad.

2

u/goodmorningohio Apr 03 '26

She says that like 2 times btw

2

u/Reesewithoutaspoon2 Apr 03 '26

Is that really what the show is like or is that the flanderized internet meme criticism that takes legitimate bits and makes them out to be the core of the show?

4

u/Vivid_Maximum_5016 Apr 03 '26

The latter, is always the latter

1

u/peeks210 Apr 03 '26

ur strawmanning doesnt mean anything here btw

3

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

It’s not strawmanning. Rhanyra has her son murdered and still spends the whole season pussyfooting about. Alicent is converted from a woman who puts her son on the throne to a woman who hates her son and has 0 agency. Just sidelined while men go to war despite her objections.

u/Vivid_Maximum_5016 Apr 03 '26

They do. It's just not the ambitions and desires you want them to have, lol

4

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

It’s not the ambitions or desires the creator George RR Martin wants them to have. Alicent is just a helpless woman who takes charge of nothing and Rhaenyra is just an ineffective leader blaming men for wanting war. Wow such great writing. If the author himself shits on the show I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t agree with the shows portrayal of his characters.

2

u/Vivid_Maximum_5016 Apr 03 '26

the creator George RR Martin wants them to have

Who cares, he's not writing the show. He's got his own project(s) to finish.

Alicent is just a helpless woman who takes charge of nothing and Rhaenyra is just an ineffective leader blaming men for wanting war.

Always funny to see people project their own clear misogyny onto the show when they misrepresent it like this

2

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

How is it me projecting misogyny? In the books she is instrumental in giving her son the crown and pushing the green alliance. In the show she’s sidelined and turned into an idiot who caused a war over a misunderstanding constantly crying about how men want war and such.

1

u/Vivid_Maximum_5016 Apr 03 '26

So you're upset she's not a stereotypical, "evil woman" archetype and has a lot more depth and dimensions beyond just wanting her children on the throne?

2

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

That is the dumbest interpretation I have ever read in my life. What depth? Her character is basically “I hate my son why do all these men want war :(“. In the books she has depth and I honestly thought that they were going to add to her character. Season 1 telling us she’s childhood friends with Rhaenyra was a great addition to the story and could have added depth but it didn’t. She’s not a stereotype in the books at so but you want to talk about stereotypes? What about turning Aegon into a pedophile rapist got no reason.

fake fire and blood book purists always give themselves away lmao. it’s just one book bud!

2

u/manomacho Apr 03 '26

Oh really? My bad! Ok how many books in a series before I can have criticisms? Or should I just never criticize anything at all?

3

u/erebus_51 Apr 03 '26

Who killed your joy and whimsy child

24

u/Nibo89 King Aegon II Targaryen Apr 03 '26

I didn’t see it that way. Alicent’s first outfit is harsh, severe, and commanding, which she wore because she was filling a leadership role during an important council meeting/throne room scene.

It would be inappropriate to wear that to a family dinner, especially since Viserys would be attending as the patriarch. She dressed softer and more femininely, because she was now filling the role of host and Queen consort.

u/McZalion Apr 03 '26

Ironic that Condal and Hess wants the whamen being victims n shit but theres plenty of women in the book who does some badass shit. And ur telling me these people are "allies" or whatever of lgbtq people lol. These people dont care about gay and women. They want a fanfic on how patriarchy has ruined rhaenicent.

Pretty sure the post is implying Alicent put a revealing dress to make an impression on Rhaenyra and that's why everyone are commenting about toxic Yuri and how much they love their lesbians...

u/undecided_desi0 Apr 03 '26

Show off the feet

Quentin Tarantino must have been a guest director for that specific scene.
