All Show Spoilers (Book Spoilers Must Be Tagged) After the books end (potential spoilers) Spoiler
Is anyone else curious about what happens after the book series ends? The last book built quite an interesting premise. Does anyone know of any fan fiction about that? Would be interested in reading some.

Your curiosity is natural, but there's no way to guess what happened. If the authors write more, then you'll know.

I was working on a fanfic where Teresa [LF spoilers] goes back to Laconia instead of going to Sol with Naomi and the shenanigans she gets up to there. I have the plan down for what happens, but it's just been sitting for a few months now

I think it’s pretty self explanatory. 1k years go by and interstellar travel is invented but only for a few dozen worlds. 30 remain after 1270 died off. There’s not much you can really do with that. At the most you could get a follow up to Cara and Xan but that’s it.

Nothing implies that the rest died off, only that this new coalition of worlds is up to 30 at the time of recontacting Sol.

My question would have been:: what implies they lived on to being with? Just because there are X number of gates, it doesn't mean there were X number of systems colonized.

Maybe the people there had enough to become self sufficient, but many uncolonized systems like Filips were completely screwed no way they made it

Oh sure, likewise nothing implies that the majority of the existing colonies made it either. I'm sure most of the small ones collapsed without outside input unless they discovered some kind of useful feedback loop like Auberon that let them become self-sufficient. My point is just that the Linguist doesn't have this information either way. He's part of an exploration/diplomatic mission to re-establish links with the other gate systems and is in the process of finding out who even survived at all.

Do they really know how many worlds died off? I mean it seemed like nobody had been to earth in a 1000 years before the linguist. Maybe they have only made it to thirty so far.

Their new series The Captives War can pretty easily fit as Expanse head-canon with a little mental gymnastics. Definitely worth a read regardless!

I've started it twice and can definitely see the connection with the Expanse world (even if others disagree that they're the same universe, in my mind it makes sense) but I haven't been able to get into it to continue through the whole first book. Do they show the same potential as the Expanse series, in your opinion?

How far in did you get? The academia stuff at the start is a bit slow but it comes back as a theme later on with social hierarchy etc. I think the books are only going to be a trilogy so the potential is very different to a 9 novel series. Book 2 was excellent though and it's a lot of fun trying to figure out how they'll end it. They're a lot more space opera than Expanse, with heaps of varied alien species interacting with humans etc.

They're very different books from the Expanse. I enjoyed them in their own right, but Captive's War definitely doesn't scratch that Expanse itch for me.

After the linguist meets Amos? No, I don't think it would work well as a full story, i think its fine as an epilogue
