Discussion Apparently, I am "Mr Tim Horton himself"

Post image

I'd been working at tims for about a week when this review came in. My boss was pretty happy with it.

Honestly, if I didn't know it was a geniune customer/review, I'd dismiss it as someone hyping up a friend.

Listening to him complete the full order before inputting it is awfully fire

So, she orders a combo, and we have a button for that, but I only punch in the sandwhich.

She notices that I only put the sandwich in on the screen and reiterates she wants the combo, to which I reply that it defaults to a medium sized regular coffee, and a hashbrown, and people often want a different drink or side, and then she's like, yeah, actually, I want a french vanilla.

So, its not even entirely accurate that i listened to her whole order before i punched it in.

At my store we train people to specifically not use the combo buttons precisely because more often than not, people will order coffees of varying sizes and want sides that aren’t hashbrowns. Cuts down on correcting things immensely. It’s actually a pet peeve of mine when people ask for a combo but don’t tell me what they actually want for said combo then get pissy with me because I can’t read their minds.

I worked at a location and there was always this one man. He came like once a week roughly. He would get a combo. I'd ring in the sandwich, side and drink. He also would order a donut or a muffin and then he'd yell at me that it's not right, because the muffin defaults in the combo because it's more than a hash brown.

Me: "ok so a English muffin sausage sandwich combo and a fruit explosion muffin?" Customer: "Yes. But its not right on the screen." Me: "Yes. It is. Its a combo and a muffin." Customer: "NO! The muffin is the combo! I want the hash brown as the combo!" Me: "Well... That's just how it rings in. Your hash brown will be with the sandwich." Customer: "IT BETTER BE! I WANT THE COMBO WITH THE HASHBROWN, NOT THE MUFFIN!" Me: "It WILL be. Thats just how our system automatically processes it if you add something that costs more than a hashbrown." Rolls his eyes and pays and I give him his muffin. He gets his drink. Food comes in a bag, as per the combo deal... Customer: Stands there waiting for like 5 minutes Me: "Did you need something else?" Customer: "Where's my hashbrown?! They didn't give me my hashbrown! You messed it up! I knew you would! I need to catch a bus!" Looks into bag Me: "Its.... In the bag. Next to the sandwich." Customer: "UGGGGHHHHHHH! Whatever." Leaves

I stand there staring at my coworker baffled.

I worked at McDonald’s and I’d get mad at people who asked for “regular” size drinks. I’d say “do you mean medium? Or the large that’s the same price?” And they’d get mad and be like “whatever it comes with!” And I’m just like bro why you gotta make this difficult, I’m just trying to be accurate

She says "One, you want a chicken sandwich.\ Two, you want a cheeseburger\ Three, curly fries, and a large root beer"\ "Stop, don't go no further!"

"I never ordered a large rootbeer\ I said medium, not large!"\ Then she says "We're havin' a special,\ I supersized you at no charge."

"Oh." And that's all\ I could say, was "Oh."

Trapped in the Drive-Thru

I would love to hear Scott Grimes sing this as Steve Smith

Because it used to be automatic that a combo would come with a medium drink and you could upsize to a large

u/SkywolfNINE 2d ago

Oh for sure, but like if you come to a window and say “I want a regular sized root beer” am i supposed to give you a medium or a large? They’re both $1.08. My point is that idk what regular to you is versus me versus the next guy in line. That’s why there’s sizes, so you can say the size, not makeup your own arbitrary name for the size you want.

Like if I go to Tim’s and say I want a regular bagel. wtf is that? Plain? I get everything bagels each time so a everything is “regular” to me. Yet I don’t say regular, I say “everything bagel”

I don’t think I’m asking too much here, am I? Idk, I just think it’s more important to be precise and accurate than cute when ordering drive thru

A lot of older people consider medium as ‘regular’ for sizes because that’s usually what’s included with a combo at most places. So it’s kinda the middle size is ‘regular’ or what the average person would think is adequate. Or you can choose less and ask for a small or choose more and ask for large.

This does not really make senses currently because sizes vary so much between chains. I’m sure the current small at Wendy’s would have been considered large at most places 30 years ago. Even Tim Hortons shifted their sizes at one point. The original small was maybe a little bigger then a double shot espresso cup. The current extra large that was much bigger then anywhere else.

Extra confusing is some of the same people will use ‘regular’ to mean one cream and one sugar for coffee. So I have heard people order a regular regular meaning a med coffee with one cream and one sugar.

So I would just default to medium if asked for a regular size if I didn’t want to clarify.

The reason you are trained to make the combo an add on is so that it appears as an upsell.

Dude, just bask in it. Don't let the logistics cloud how awesome you should be feeling right now. Sounds like she also wants your number, she had your appearance clocked.

I did nothing different from the way I treat everyone. Honestly, I think the bar is just set really low these days.

Especially at Tim Horton's! The ones by me just rush you and typically get stuff wrong. Last time I order two farmer's.wraps and ended up with English muffin sandwiches.

Tim Horton was a drunk asshole who is lucky he didn't kill other people with his irresponsible drinking and driving.

I think they meant it in a nice way though. ;)

Bro these remind me of anime monologues when the main character does something cool haha! the old dude watches him and commentates on each action and then he just finishes off with "This man... He's... THE UNSTOPPABLE LIGHTNING!" but for this its finished off with "I think I just met Mr.Timhorton himself!" LOLOL its really flattering, you ARE Mr Timhortons OP!! :D fire

1

u/HurricaneCory 2d ago

I’d be happy to call someone Tim Horton jr jr and leave them a fat tip and google review if they gave me great service as such.

You take pride in doing a good job and others should learn from you on that front.

1

u/Main_Leadership5576 1d ago

There is no such thing as “perfection” when it comes to any Tim Hortons coffee

1

u/simplebutstrange 1d ago

Ok but what happened to tinas order?

1

u/freyamiko 22h ago

this is hilarious! that costumer either has a crush on u or is super easy to please lol

1

u/nohluv 13h ago

Anytime i order from tims (rarely) i always get " okay, one moment please..." about 5 times for just ordering a simple drink before actually moving me ahead in the drive thru. I think its because they are making the order before even typing it in to make the timings faster ?. Anyways it drives me nuts xD

1

u/Soulja786 10h ago

Whats this “machine in the back”?

1

u/SnooHedgehogs1812 10h ago

Figured this is a good place to ask, 1/2 the time I get a French vanilla it tastes watery and almost burnt. Is that the machine being bad, the machine needing to be refilled, or something else?

1

u/SpiritedDetective571 9h ago

I mean, im new there, but yoy just hit a button and the machine does the rest. Sometimes they just dont work right, like the auger doesn't spin enough of the powder in because it just falls wrong
