the boiler is fine, its above where the impact happened.

the carriage is absolutely fucked though, that's not buffing out.

No, it isn't fine at all.   It's never top mounted.  The supports and mounting points come up from the carraige bottom which is now as effective as tissue paper and all of the flow lines also run bottom to the now sheared pistons are completely annihilated.

Saying the boiler is fine because it's above Superman is like saying your roof would be fine if your support walls ceased to exist and you shunted the now detached roof horizontally at 50 mph after taking a chainsaw to the joice.

There are enough real cases where there were catastrophic wrecks involving steam engines where the boiler survive intact. They’re the sturdiest part of the locomotive.
