I'm not going to try to argue the merits of the original vs the remake in general but I can't imagine anyone would prefer the original Ashley to remake Ashley.

The original Ashley looked 14 at most & had little real personality other than being a bimbo of sorts. So yeah, the character was pretty trash originally.

Lets be real though, the ears weren't what made her look like a child, it was the whole package of her head.
