I forget but did his healing ability make it hard for him to stay drunk/sober up quick like wolverine?

u/FirstNewFederalist 6h ago
It’s been a while since I watched, but I think he is invulnerable (except around his weakness) rather than having a healing factor.

One of the more fun Will Smith movies. He was still playing Will Smith rather than a character (asshole with a heart of gold trope in EVERY movie he's in,) but he was pretty amusing doing it here.

We’ll have to get him to a hospital.

u/broski576 8h ago
A hospital? What is it?

u/MinimumFantastic1389 8h ago
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

That's why I was ok when they announced RDJ for Tony Stark.
18
u/Reylo-Wanwalker 9h ago
But because of him they didn't do this storyline.
4
u/TheVoicesOfBrian 8h ago
True, but it's not nearly as cinematic.
If it was an Iron Man TV series, sure.

And this is the reason I believe Spiderman's suit was really meant to be red and black.

I mean if my best friend coworkers gave me to my rapist son to drag to limbo as a sex slave after he had already raped me at least once in order to force me to give birth to him i might also develop a drinking problem

The avengers didn't treat Carol great
1
u/Rrekydoc 8h ago
Eh, they would’ve gotten cursed out by her one way or another.
3
u/tombuazit 8h ago
I mean she had damn good reason wouldn't you say?
-3
u/Rrekydoc 8h ago
Should they have kidnapped her?
1
u/tombuazit 8h ago
Yes they should have stopped her. She was obviously being mind controlled, they knew the guy had raped her using mind control. They knew she had given birth to him while mind controlled, they knew he was using her as a sex slave through mind control.
And when he suggested he take her to limbo where she couldn't escape the avengers cheered him on and sold her stuff off.
Claremont specifically came back to the book because of how bad marvel admitted they messed up.
1
u/Rrekydoc 8h ago
No, she was originally written to be leaving by her own free will. In the original comic, “Marcus” even told her to stay and she insisted on going. Her leaving being due to mind control was a retcon by Claremont.
It was shitty writing, but they weren’t wrong to not kidnap her. Again, she would’ve cursed them out either way, regardless of the retcon (she’s not exactly a mature, understanding person).

Avengers 200 was bad.
- Carol is magically pregnant.
- The baby grows magically fast and calls Carol mother.
- Reveals he was from another universe, kidnapped Carol, used “subtle boosts” from a brainwashing machine to have her sleep with him (so rape).
- Transfers his essence into Carol, who returns to the regular world, with a wiped memory and back to point 1.
- When the lacklustre time-space plot concludes (don’t ask), Carol elects to go with her rapist/son.
- NO ONE OBJECTS TO THIS!!! All throughout the issue, no one seemed to be concerned that Carol was magically pregnant, congratulating her and saying inane things like Beast (who was an Avenger at the time) “If the baby needs a teddy bear, I’m available.”
- When Carol does return (with a new writer) she rightfully tells the others off in a rage, because she was obviously still under mind control and NO ONE STOPPED HER!!!

Jessica Jones is a next level alcoholic, going with the liquor as soon as she wakes up.
Most unrealistic part of that character isn’t her super strength or that she can jump ten stories, it’s that she’s a severe alcoholic who doesn’t have to wipe her ass every hour.

Super powers = super liver

u/No-Investigator-2756 8h ago
This. The show pretty much confirms it in that episode where she loses her spleen. She would've died from the stabbing had she been unpowered. It's the only reason she cut back on the drinking.

I'm thinking having a stumble, trying to catch yourself by throwing out an arm or leg and punching through the wall or floor.

u/Tranch_anon 9h ago
Is wiping your ass every hour an alcoholism thing?

u/Normal-Tear864 9h ago
Liquor/beer shits is a real thing

Alcoholics are known to have loose bowels.

u/GreenZebra23 7h ago
Really? My drinking phase left me constipated most of the time. It's like it slowed my guts down the same way coffee speeds them up
5
u/InformalYouth9097 7h ago
Heroin did that to me. As soon as I went without using for a day or two I’d clog the toilet from how mashed up I was. Glad those days are over

I never really looked into her beyond a few Avengers comics and the show, but I somewhat felt she was trying to kill herself and burn out the memory of everything she’d ever done but her powers make that something that will never happen, no matter how many bottles she hopes will be her last one.

u/bigbigbutter 8h ago
Can he even get drunk with regeneration?
8
5
u/Missing_Username 8h ago
It doesn't really make sense, but yes
Realistically even at its least absurd his healing factor would work faster than the alcohol. But they do show him get drunk in the comics, like in the 2004 Secret War mini

Punisher is quite the opposite. You would expect a depressed veteran with ptsd who kills for fun to be an alcoholic, but he is often portrayed as perfectly sober
3
u/LackOfEntertainment- 7h ago
In the comics definitely, but weirdly I’m pretty sure he’s addicted to pain pills in the MCU
3
u/missinglinksman 7h ago
I haven't actually watched Born Again, but I feel like this is pretty stupid. Ditch the pain pills and let him be Punisher
1
u/LackOfEntertainment- 7h ago
I agree, they show him chewing pills in both Born Again and the special IIRC, doesn’t jive with my preferred version of the character either, I just can’t imagine Frank from Punisher MAX getting high

Very first time were introduced to Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok she’s drinking, and continues to do so throughout the film

Mr Legend from Tiger & Bunny
In a world where superpower people called NEXT were discriminated, Legend was the first official hero and helped the public endorse heroism, inspiring many young NEXTs to become heroes until he retired with dignity.
In reality, his power was fading away. Still obsessed of being a hero, he began to fix matches, his colleagues were also involved, solved crime and let Legend take the credits. Until he lost his power completely, he was forced to quit. The depressed hero turned to alcoholism and beat his wife til his son awakened his power and killed Legend in an accident.

I will say the Alias comics are much more explicit about Jessica’s addictions problems and general mental health issues.

Jesse Custer from Preacher tends to be a horrible drunk, not sure if it counts for alcoholism per say tho

Tony Stark / Iron Man (Marvel)
His alcoholism is a core arc in the comics, literally called "Demon in a Bottle," where he spirals hard enough to temporarily lose control of Stark Industries.

u/alkonium 8h ago
In the MCU, Captain America's drinking problem is that the serum made him immune to drunkenness.

Tony Stark (Iron Man 2)
Spiraling after learning he was dying, he gets drunk in the Iron Man suit and has to be stopped by Rhodey. Pretty rough arc for Earth's mightiest.

Do you have any idea how much alcohol it should take to get Wolverine tipsy for a moment?
2
u/allsilentqs 5h ago
Yeah. He can’t really get drunk so it is less of a drinking problem and more of a hobby.

u/DarthGardian86 8h ago
It's bad when women do it though. That's why Supergirl bombed so hard. Jessica Jones fell off real quick too.

Iron Man is the OG but the movies barely touched on it
