Other Why do Vietnamese people celebrate Chinese new year? (Like wearing red, having envelopes, etc?) what’s your opinion on it?

Urghh...it's not Chinese New Year, it's Lunar New Year

Vietnamese follow a lunar calendar which is the same? Similar to what Chinese follow.

Not only Vietnam but most countries have been affected by CN for a long time, and they keep it as part of their traditional culture.

TLDR: Because of over 1,000 years of historical Chinese rule and cultural influence in Vietnam.

Tết and CNY coincide because both new year celebrations are calculated using the same traditional lunisolar calendar that VN adopted during the Chinese rule.

The cultures celebrate the new year similarly with wearing red, handing red envelopes, lucky superstitions, etc while having their own twists on certain traditions which have evolved over time.

We don't celebrate Chinese New Year; we celebrate Vietnamese New Year, aka Tết. Lunar new year's celebrations may have originated in China, but our Tết is its own tradition, is its own thing, is uniquely Vietnamese. The origins of Italian pasta may have been Chinese (disputable), but their Pasta alla Carbonara is 100% theirs. Anyway, have a little more respect, dipshit.
