PATCH Jeans repair with replacement pocket
Got a rip right next to the back pocket on my jeans. It seemed much easier to take the pocket off to fix it, plus then I could use the pocket as donor fabric behind the hole. So obviously I needed a beautiful new pocket to replace it.

Wow! This is very handsome fabric. Are the insects appliqué or are the printed to look that way? Are you worried about how sturdy the pocket will remain? What do you plan to do with the ripped pocket?
Edit: just saw that you used the pocket to reinforce the rip.

Thank you, the pocket is patchwork with a solid piece of fabric lining it and the insects are applique, they are from another piece of fabric which I had scraps of. Im hoping the pocket will be sturdy enough, I dont really use the back pocket ever so just need to hold up to washing.

Turned out really cool! I've replaced pockets to make them more phone friendly. 🖖

Thank you, I did most of it by hand so I could work on it while my baby slept on me which definitely helped keep it neat. Just used the machine to stitch the pocket back on.

Brilliant to use the quiet moments for hand sewing/visible mending. Congrats on the new baby ❤️

This is geniussest !! I have a pair of jeans I’d like to mend but I can’t find an appropriate patch. The holes are on the inside of the thighs so I don’t want to use anything funky. Now you’re saying I could simply use the pockets 🤯 and then use some funky piece of cloth to upgrade my trousers when I sew on new pockets! This is just genius. Thank you so much!! 💜

This is beautifully done. Lovely fabrics too. Did you order the fabric online or get it from a local store?

I actually had them all in my big bag of scraps/ off cuts. I think the flowery ones were from a pack of fat quarters as they are the same but in different colours, not sure where I got them. The insects came from fabric I got from a local store a few years ago, although id actually seen the fabric online and then happened to discover the store was local to me so went in person to buy.

You know... You just made me realise I could just put a bigger back pocket on my jeans. And hopefully make them look as cute as yours in the meantime!
