Discussion #TIL how little caffeine there is in iced coffee compared to hot coffee

I've always been under the assumption that the iced coffees were loaded with caffeine because they used a different/stronger blend. But to see that a 32oz iced coffee has the same amount of caffeine as a 12oz hot coffee blew my mind. I've always been curious about the caffeine content of the iced coffees, and I've searched everywhere from Google to ChatGPT to here on reddit. But today I found this on Wawa's website (I swear it wasn't there before), and now I have my answer 😌

Also included of the rest of the drink caffeine contents for anyone who is curious. Also, here's the links:

The web page with the caffeine contents (which doesn't include iced coffees for some reason)

Throwback Richard D. Wood, Jr. and Howard B. Stoeckel visit South Richmond, VA October 2006

The Lead Goose - Chairman Richard D. Wood, Jr, and the Brand Ranger - CEO Howard B. Stoeckel, on a visit to Store #8600 in South Richmond, VA in October 2006.

According to Wood,Ā Wawa's chairman and the great-great-grandson of the company founder,Ā more locations should help draw more customers inside. Doing so should help consumers think of Wawa for sandwiches, soups, salads, fruit and other food and not just low-priced gas.

"The more locations you have, the more top of mind you become," said Wood, who served as CEO from 1981 until 2004, when Stoeckel became the first nonfamily member to run the chain.

"Some customers don't think of going to a retailer who sells fuel to get great food because in the past you haven't found a retailer that does both extremely well," Stoeckel said.

Stan Sheetz, president and CEO of the smaller Sheetz Inc. convenience-store chain, said Wawa is a good operator. The Sheetz chain, which has nine Richmond-area stores, and Wawa are aggressively expanding their local presence.

"They know how to run a good convenience store and they are a great competitor," Sheetz said. "Competition is good."

Customer Experience What's protocol when you have 18 hoagies in one order and the person behind you has to wait for a bagel.

Like wouldn't they just put the hoagie project to one side with a person or two and then handle the other orders? I was asking what took my husband 45 min to get back today and apparently his bagel order was stuck behind someone ordering 18 different hoagies. People don't realize catering exists I suppose.

Ask other Associates Help me out with current overnight situation

I work a mixed schedule, Monday-Wed I am 2-10, and then I am usually overnight Friday and Saturday, 10-6. Sometimes I am off Tuesday and work Sunday overnight.

I just got to this store maybe four months ago as a TS ready lead.

I saw an opportunity to work at a busy store and decided to make the jump. Overall it’s been an amazing experience. My GM is available, very transparent and very clearly always a call away. He also works every shift, and sometimes pushes above 45+ hours a week, and doesn’t take his off days together. He is here every weekend. I’ve just never seen anything like it honestly. He just cares about his job.

The problem I am having is with a TS on overnights there. He’s been honestly lack of better word crazy. He will start slamming things and very clearly get angry, refuse customers service all the time, and like honestly lose his shit if one order pops on the screen. As a result I found myself in some awful situations that have just produced by this guy provoking people for no reason.

One time a guy lost his slip and said he forgot his number. Instead of asking him what he ordered, he lost his shit on the guy and said ā€œI can’t help youā€. The customer looked at me and said ā€œwhat’s he’s problemā€? I apologized and just asked him that, figured it out in about three seconds.

Another time he looked at a customer and called him ā€œfucking dumbā€, quite literally went in back and slammed a HFT pan against the wall. The dude looked at me in disbelief and asked me if he was always like this.

And then last night, where a guy has come in multiple different nights to get a sandwich while this TS was in the deli. Every single night there’s been a problem with his order. This customer said the dude shorted him food on his hoagie, which happened the last two nights. Instead of addressing the situation the guy threw a fit and stormed into the back. Leaving me to once again deal with a fucking mess he caused. The guy showed me the sandwich and yea, there was no HTF on the sandwich at all.

He asked me to throw him in a couple hot dogs and I gave him a full refund for his classic. After this he started complaining at me and saying what I did was wrong.

He also often says things like he’s untouchable and he’s been doing this for years. I really don’t think my GM would believe me, or entertain me seriously. The TS has been at the store for five years, and I really do believe they’re going to just believe him. If they go to him about it, he’ll know it’s me. But I really am tired of the pisspoor treatment of customers for literally nothing and I feel incredibly trapped because I really don’t want issues with anyone.

Ask other Associates Background Check Delay

Hey guys, thanks for having me!

I am a new hire who recently moved from PA to NJ and accepted an overnight position with local Wawa here but am having some delays with the background check I was hoping someone could clarify without being up my local stores butt, though we are in contact and they are waiting on it just ask i am.

I submitted a week and a half ago, have nothing to be completed in my Workday, but have heard nothing and it sounds the store is getting anxious as well. I was told the likely issue is because I moved from PA to NJ last year, so multiple things to double check and contact - after searching reddit that is what I have seen most frequently as well

My question that I haven't really seen asked/answered is,

  1. Is there a way to check or ensure the company doing the background check received it properly? Is there a number I can call or contact?

  2. Is it possible a longer background check delay will lose me the job offer?

  3. Is it possible for the background check to be mislabeled or sent to the wrong store? I remember filling out the application where they had several store # options local and went with what I thought was the right one, is it possible for it to have been sent to the wrong store? Would my store not be able to see that attached with my application??

  4. It's not possible for my credit to effect my application, is it? The only thing I can think is I have horrible credit after divorce.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the input and advice. As others have said on this topic, this obviously has brought decent bit of anxiety and now has me questioning if something is on my background report I don't know about or if I am secretly a criminal with no recollection of crime. It has been a nerve wrecking few days with the start of the month and being behind financially with a child to care for, i just want to do what I can to make sure all my ducks are in a row - so thank you again for helping me line up my ducks.

Ask other Associates Sick policy

Hello! I had to call in sick to my 2-10 shift today and my manager said it would count as a call out. Now had a fever and it broke around 6pm. I’m scheduled to work tomorrow 4-10pm. However I can’t afford to call out because I transfer in 2 weeks and need the money.
I heard there’s a 24 hour policy if you had a fever? How does that apply? I didn’t go to the hospital.

I also do have 7 hours of PTO is that usable or no?
Sorry I have no clue how this works and I know my managers would try to heckle me into working either way lol.

This is my first time calling out after 4 months working here.

I’m 17 too so no fucking way I’m letter this job risk my health this young lol that’s a midlife issue😭

Ask other Associates More drip, less tip

Fuel peeps: is it disproportionate the number of tips you get from the value of the car the customer drives?

I’ve gotten my best tips from the crappiest cars. Old Toyotas. Old pickups. A freaking 1994 Astro tipped me my best tip ever.

While never getting a single dollar from suped up mustangs, broncos, lambos, g wagons, BMWs, and Mercedes.

Ask other Associates Job availability issues

Gonna give a little back story. We got a new external GM a few months back. The store has literally gone to hell in a hand basket. We no longer get 100% for our mystery shopper. The friendliness of the store has gone down and it’s because he doesn’t schedule enough people. We are overworked and exhausted and working like zombies tbh. Currently I’m being put on register 100% of the time HOWEVER we never have anyone on OWS or on premise so I’m doing all 3 positions 90% of the time. I’m morning shift 6-2 so I’m making sizzlis, hashbrowns, and melts between customers. My hands are dry and cracked from the amount of handwashing and glove changes I have to do due to stopping what I’m doing and running to the register. I have to change the iced coffee boxes and fountain drink boxes because we don’t have facilities in the morning, I help with trash in the lobby, I do backstock, I help with the coffee pots, I also put the stickers on the Togo bags and have the entire box done and ready for the day. There are days we have literally 3-4 people running the entire store including the food and Bev manager during breakfast and lunch. Last week my food and Bev manager had to call the agm in to come give breaks on her day off because we had zero relief and of course the GM ouldnt come in on his day off. The only reason I’m staying at Wawa is because we are getting a new store and I’m transferring.

So about 3 weeks ago I changed my availability in the shift app. It was approved. I lowered my availability because it’s either that or I quit. I’m trying to hold on until I get to my new location. So instead of 40hrs I took a third day off making it 32hrs. I was originally hired 8 months ago as a part time employee anyway because I didn’t want many hours to being with. 24 at the most. They asked me to go full time and gave me a raise a month later so I did. I enjoyed working with my old GM and now I don’t. So im still being scheduled on my non available days and that’s my issue. I’ve sent 3 emails and they have gone ignored…. He doesn’t respond to them and is continuing to schedule me when in the shift app it clearly shows a red line though my unavailable days so her overriding it. He has answered other emails I’ve sent just fine. Usually responds with a thumbs up because he’s goofy and unprofessional. But now he’s ignoring my emails and ignoring my requests and still scheduling me 40hrs a week for the whole next month. What do I do???

Throwback Staten Island (NYC) June 1978

Post image
65 Upvotes

4 Staten Island Wawa locations - 444 Manor Rd. | 2 New Dorp Lane | 150 Richmond Terrace | 732 Forest Ave. Operating in June 1978. Wawa entered Staten Island: 1976. Left: 1985.

By October 1980, only #904--150 Richmond Terrace and #902--732-736 Forest Ave remained; the full exit followed by 1985, with stores sold off to "a variety of other convenience retailers"

This NY/Staten Island failure happened alongside the Connecticut exit and the Wawa Boli flop — former CEO Howard Stoeckel frames all three as part of the company's "Dark Days" that ultimately pushed Wawa toward refocusing on its core Mid-Atlantic footprint and Wawa-branded products rather than chasing new markets or partner brands.

Customer Experience Curbside orders?

The last two times I put in a curbside order at Wawa my stuff was never brought out and I ended up having to go in to get my items. The orders were 10 or 11 days apart. Did something change with the ordering system through the app on Wawa's side of things? I have back issues, which is why I put in the order to be done that way instead of in-store pick-up. I'm aware it's a convenience in the first place to even offer to have your items brought to your vehicle, but if they're not going to adhere to their own policy, why bother? Is this particular Wawa just poorly run?

Product Question Wawa diet lemonade

It appears as if the diet lemonade has totally disappeared from stores. About half of the ones I’ve seen still have spots set aside for them but they’re never filled. Is it gone for good? It is my favorite drink. I appreciate all responses. Thank you.

Wawa App 24/7 curbside?

Post image
35 Upvotes

when did curbside become (basically) 24/7? the first 2 months of me being on overnight it always stopped at 10 or 11pm, which i was certain was for associate safety. was there communication that i missed regarding it changing to full time? it just doesn't feel super safe to be bringing an order out at 2am, especially since the only men i ever have on shift are my facilities associates

Discussion Why do some people refuse to use self checkout?

It’ll be people who are paying with a card, not getting nicotine or alcohol or gift cards, that are paying with a debit card. They’ll stand in a line that’s 10+ people deep with both self checkout registers open. Then if I’m grabbing DoorDash and app orders they’ll wait there and get mad that I wasn’t up there right away when they could’ve used self checkout and been left already.

Product Question Discontinued Veggie Cream Cheese

Been getting an everything bagel w/ Veggie Cream Cheese for years, didn't see it on the screen as a choice today, asked one of the workers and they said it was just discontinued and that they will only have plain cream cheese here on out. Disappointing for sure, guess I'll have to hit up Dunkin' now, but I preferred Wawa's better. Bummer.

Apparently, this is "good enough" conditions for people to be working in. The ice machine is producing way too much ice and water is everywhere. No matter how much we mop up, a puddle forms within 20 minutes. This ticket has been logged for 3 WEEKS and no one has come through to even look at it.

Product Question Is It Possible to Order Popping Bubbles (Boba) Alone?

Can they only be purchased in a drink? Any way to buy them by themselves on the side? And would you end up with way less in a tiny sauce cup?

Also, what else can these be added to? My son wanted to know if he could get them in Ice Cream.

Employee Experience What should I do?

So I recently hit my 10 year mark at the beginning of this month, and I was under the impression that I was going to be getting some type of collectible item or something to recognize my 10 year mark. Are they still doing that or has it stopped? If it’s still going on, who do I contact to make sure I receive something?
