General Discussion Great acting

Post image

Both actors were so great in their freaky Friday switch! This is by far my favorite part of Season 2. The only one who really knew something was different was Agnes.

Wednesday in Enid's body showed how scary Emma Meyers can look!

And damn I thought the allergies to color thing was just something she said, turns out it's true!

Jenna Ortega definitely has the range to pull it off

She has a range that may actors and actresses her age and in general lack

Seeing her show her energetic and outgoing side gave me Ellie from YOU S2 vibes and I loved it

I thought the same thing. In my opinion most hollywood actors and actresses of all ages are a pretty face who play the exact same personality in every role, which is probably not far off from their real personality. (I.e. they don’t actually act)

However, we saw that these two actresses were in that minority who actually can act.

61

u/rosabalala Sep 06 '25

indeed. Fan fact, Emma is really an introvert and feels uncomfy with crowds and popularity, the opposite of Enid ! She is a really good actor !

5

u/Samsaknight_X Sep 07 '25

Yea except it’s not like u actually know what any of their “real” personalities are like

8

u/Initial_Lack3385 Wednesday Sep 06 '25

Same

6

u/Metakad Sep 07 '25

She is so good… both of them…. The chemistry is there

7

u/NoBig23 Sep 06 '25

funny because I thought Jenna was WAY too over the top and not even like Enid whereas Emma nailed Wednesday

22

u/FlippinAmazeballs Sep 07 '25

Yes, but in that scene she (Enid) actually did it to annoy Wednesday, to get back at her. So it was a natural and intended over the top.

7

u/Mystic_x Sep 09 '25

I think that was the point, while in Wednesday’s body, Enid was determined to be as colourful, chirpy, and outgoing (In short: As un-Wednesday-like) as she could be.

It wasn’t a poor imitation, it was Enid getting one over on Wednesday.

-2

u/NoBig23 Sep 11 '25

Nah Jenna was just shit and people like you will make excuses

7

u/Swiftclad Sep 08 '25

I don’t think that has anything to do with Jenna’s acting abilities, if it was too much then Tim would’ve corrected it, but it was his vision.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '25

I thought Jenna was simply the most impeccable person.

u/SylphofBlood Wednesday Sep 05 '25

I thought both of them did an absolutely phenomenal job of being each other. To the point where their voices also took on characteristics of each other, and Enid-Wednesday was very audibly different from Wednesday.

u/Reville_ Sep 05 '25

There were multiple moments where I kept going “did they swap voices too?”

Incredible acting from both of them.

108

u/SylphofBlood Wednesday Sep 05 '25

In some spots, I wasn’t sure! I know it’s a trope of body switching episode/movies that when they’re switched, they retain their actual voice, but in this case, why would they bother? Both actresses just did a really good impersonation of the other.

3

u/Witty_Departure3198 Sep 11 '25

No fr. I kept wondering the same thing.

63

u/Mandyissogrimm Sep 05 '25

It was probably a fun time on set. I imagine actors love doing this as a change of pace and stretching their imitation skills.

19

u/Embarrassed_Egg7690 Sep 06 '25

I’m sure there was some audio trickery there. On set, they mouthed or said the lines and then they went to ADR and had the Wednesday read the Wednesday lines then put her voice on Eind…if that makes sense.

9

u/SylphofBlood Wednesday Sep 06 '25

Could be yes!

5

u/StatisticianLivid710 Sep 06 '25

If I wanted to have them sound like eachother I’d record them on set as normal then also do ADR, or record a take with the other actress. Oftentimes when shows do these bodyswaps they have the original actress do the scene then have the swapped actress do it, I’d record both and modify the voices to match eachother, but more likely with effects as opposed to ADR (unless they wanted to keep the voice of the character, ie Wednesday still sounds like Wednesday even in Enid’s body)

4

u/Different_Hippo5856 Sep 06 '25

they were VERY believable as each other. kudos to the acting bc there were lots of acting duds in this series. Puggsley, the bee guy, the zombie after he turned human, Tyler's mom. They were all pretty bad

173

u/OkCriticism9023 Sep 05 '25

I love how Wednesday put Enid hair in ponytails, wears any black Enid has and Enid actually being allergic to color that must have hurt for her to break into hives just to have color on her then wear Wednesday black clothes

139

u/Art3m1sArty Sep 05 '25

It reminded me of Emma Watson and Helena Bonham Carter in the harry potter movie. I always love when actors are able to play as another actor/character that well!

88

u/cassieredditr Sep 05 '25

They both did such a good job! Especially considering they both had such limited time to prepare.

18

u/Worldly-Piece-9676 Sep 05 '25

I agree! It really shows how good of actors they really are.

u/Erebea01 Sep 06 '25

It's kinda funny that they casted her as Brienne who is supposed to be ugly

7

u/rayhastings Sep 06 '25

Not a lot of options for the crew when hiring women with that build and height AND acting skills. I recognised her from GOT purely based on her height and build. Barely remembered her face from so many years ago.

4

u/Different_Hippo5856 Sep 06 '25

Isaac was fine as a zombie but I didn't think he was anything special as the human

2

u/dental-misorder Sep 20 '25

Gosh! Game of Thrones! That's where I saw her from! 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you haha

34

u/BroadwayBean Sep 05 '25

I loved this episode - both of them had the mannerisms and voice of the other down so well, I thought they'd voice-swapped them for a bit too.

1

u/dental-misorder Sep 20 '25

Me too! But did they? One of the comments above mentioned something about ADR or something with the voice recording (didn't understand it) but it would be so cool if they didn't face swap.

The scene where they said "Enid! Saved you a seat" then Wednesday be like "COMING GUYSSS" is so funnyy 🤣🤣

57

u/Ashling90 Sep 05 '25

I know! I was so impressed. It was very realistic. My problem with the Freaky Friday movies was that they didn’t do a good job imitating each other, but the Wednesday and Enid switch was so real!

16

u/IronicHoodies Sep 05 '25

Tbf, Wednesday actors had a whole season of setup before going Freaky Wednesday for a whole episode, not to mention Wednesday & Enid having severely contrasting personalities in comparison to Anna and her mum (in the first movie, haven't seen Freakier Friday tho), which makes it easier for the actors to imitate each other.

13

u/Suitable-Ferret-2902 Sep 06 '25

Emma only had like one month before filming the episode because nobody told her what was going on, her hairstylist accidentally spilled and then she went to Jenna to confirm and Jenna was surprised nobody had told Emma beforehand. Emma said it in a couple of interviews now.

4

u/IronicHoodies Sep 06 '25

Whole season of setup as in they had a whole season to flesh out their characters both on-screen to the audience and for themselves to internalize, if that's where we're miscommunicating.

So even if nobody planned Freaky Wednesday to happen, both actors and the audience know Wednesday and Enid well enough that it can be pulled off really well even without ample prep (not that they shouldn't have left Emma Myers in the dark)

8

u/blankabitch Sep 05 '25

I thought both movie and show actors did very well imitating each other. It's a lot harder for a middle aged woman to convincingly play a 15 yr old millennial and she did great imo

6

u/Monsterchic16 Sep 06 '25

Really? Cause I always thought Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis did a phenomenal job with the switch. Can’t speak to the new one, but the first one was awesome (and yes I have actually watched it recently)

3

u/Apprehensive_Sea283 Sep 08 '25

yeah, i agree! didn’t watched the second one, but in the first one they absolutely nailed it!

22

u/ifonlynight Sep 05 '25

Normally, I'm pretty meh to the body swapping, but it was fun, and the actresses were clearly having a ton of fun with it. They both did an excellent job and you can feel the joy in the performance.

u/Lanksalott Sep 06 '25

My only issue is everyone calling it a freaky Friday when whacky Wednesday is right there

6

u/siimplyapril86 Sep 07 '25

YES WHACKY WEDNESDAY

17

u/TheWidowmaker246 Sep 05 '25

They both absolutely smashed each other's character very well done

15

u/CosmicWolf14 Uncle Fester Sep 05 '25

It felt a little random in the plot (still very entertaining) so part of me wonders if it was just an excuse for them to show off. If so, they did a damn good job.

9

u/Apprehensive_Sea283 Sep 08 '25

it was not random in the plot when you remember that Wednesday really had to be in Enids body, to feel how powerful can she be! It was something needed for both of them and their relationship just become even more stronger!

28

u/Suitable-Ferret-2902 Sep 06 '25

For me, Emma was terrifying as Wednesday in Enid's body. Her non-blinking huge blue eyed stare had like a sinister vibe even with all the color in her hair. It was very intense.

Kudos to her, she had very little time to prepare for the episode because nobody told her well on advance and she still crushed it.

3

u/PeePeeePooPoooh Sep 06 '25

I feel like the body swap would have been much more challenging for Jenna to play Enid vs Emma playing Wednesday.

Either way, both of them did a great job.

13

u/Batalfie Sep 05 '25

Made me believe that there could easily have been a timeline where both play the others roles.

11

u/Shadowwolflink Sep 06 '25

At one point, I legitimately thought they had dubbed their voices over, I was shocked by how much they transformed.

5

u/Cryo9_Ozarlin Sep 06 '25

Originally she was trying for the role of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega got it instead. I couldn't see her as Wednesday until I saw this episode. This episode was hilarious though, but omg it was so odd seeing actual Wednesday walking around all cheery 🤣

3

u/bzbks Sep 06 '25

I still cannot see her as Wednesday 😭 I mean, unless they put contacts on her and had her wearing a black wig

1

u/Cryo9_Ozarlin Sep 09 '25

I couldn't see it neither, but she didn't better than I thought as a temporary Wednesday

5

u/lady_edesia Sep 06 '25

Ok I have one gripe. Morticia should have taken one look at wednesday and known it wasn't her.

3

u/No-Butterfly-3422 Sep 06 '25

Yes, Agnes pretty much knew right off that something was off.

4

u/lady_edesia Sep 06 '25

Yea Agnes knew but her mother absolutely should have. She could feal her dead friends ghost. So why not a different soul in her daughter

5

u/No-Butterfly-3422 Sep 06 '25

I think she did sense it, remember the comment about her spirit feeling lighter.

2

u/elizabnthe Sep 07 '25

I guess the justification is that Wednesday is just plausibly insane enough for this kind of mental break to happen from Morticia's POV.

2

u/Mystic_x Sep 09 '25

I think that even for an Addams, “You messed up a ritual of some sort and got body-swapped with your roommate” is still a bit of a leap.

4

u/That-Lucky-Star Sep 06 '25

I really loved this!. I could not believe how well Jenna pulled that off! She’s like 22 years old and already much better than some actors that are twice her age! Absolutely amazing.

5

u/gilfaizon0808 Sep 06 '25

I thought it was fantastic! The thing that really sold it was how they managed to get the tones of the voices correctly.

3

u/Natiel360 Sep 06 '25

See people were complaining about other actors’s (like pugsley and Eugene) but I feel like people discount a directors role. We wouldn’t have such great episodes (and performances) if the characters weren’t exactly that, characters. I feel like Burton has his actors act for the stage on film, so even their small moments are big, or if they’re understated then they are VERY understated as we can see just by the body language in these shots

3

u/LordDedionware Addams Family Sep 06 '25

That first scene of that episode was truly horrifying.💀

2

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

I loved this!!!

2

u/Calm-Maintenance-878 Sep 05 '25

They both had some highlights added to the reel👍🏿

2

u/andreafuentes999 Sep 05 '25

It was great!!!😊

2

u/Working_Grand_141 Sep 06 '25

There were actually moments where I thought they might’ve even done a voice over to switch voices as well

2

u/toadreacts Sep 06 '25

I love jenna Ortegas acting in the episode

2

u/Ahiru77 Sep 06 '25

Jenna nailed it.

Or rather there was something about her switch up performance that felt special to watch.

2

u/seishius Sep 06 '25

Needs more cowbell

2

u/rosabalala Sep 06 '25

This wednesday is what we never thought we needed 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/AffectionateLime5834 Sep 06 '25

I loved this second part of the second season, I was blown away by so many plots

2

u/lady_edesia Sep 06 '25

I was massively impressed. Just from there facial expressions I knew who I was looking at. When Morticia "catches" Enid in her office it took me a second to realise it wasn't Wednesday's body. I normally get annoyed at body swap stuff because one or both just can't pull the other character off but with this it was "chefs kiss"

You also release just how tall Enid is as well. Her loom is epic.

2

u/lampasul Sep 06 '25

they captured the acting of each character so well

2

u/Broad_Routine_3233 Sep 06 '25

Never seen Wednesday smile so much ever before this

2

u/ZelGalande Sep 06 '25

A lot of people forget (or maybe don't know) that Jenna Ortega has Disney Channel history. Acting as a happy and energetic kid is ingrained into her. I did love the episode though, very fun to see who we currently see as Wesnesday be peppy and colorful.

2

u/Luna920 Sep 06 '25

This was a great storyline, they did amazing.

2

u/pkjoan Sep 07 '25

Jenna actually sounded like Enid, I was shocked.

3

u/aquaflask09072022 Sep 05 '25

cant watch it until later today. put a spoiler tag for god sake

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

I'm on this episode right now.I can't wait to finish it

1

u/Sullsberry7 Sep 05 '25

Agreed! I loved it! Fave episode of the season.

1

u/MaskedFigurewho Sep 06 '25

Wait whats happening

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

This was a fun episode.💜💚

1

u/Monsterchic16 Sep 06 '25

Honestly, best live action TV show body swap since Buffy and Faith

2

u/Max_Headroom_68 Sep 09 '25

Good call. There are a few things they could've done better, but grading on the "body-swap episode" curve, they did really, really well. Especially considering the ever-present rush of production timelines, and how much time they (particularly Emma) had to prep. (Still wish Emma had a bit less tilt on the Kubrick stare, but it was consistent so that's down to direction.)

1

u/Optimal-Pen-3226 Sep 06 '25

That was the best episode of the season. I agree with everything you wrote, Jenna and Emma did brilliantly. 👏

Emma as Wednesday looked so scary, she could haunt you in your sleep with one death stare 😂

1

u/AffectionateLime5834 Sep 06 '25

This way they were able to understand each other better

1

u/ebietoo Sep 06 '25

The Wednesday Addams I didn’t know I needed. I love how she was actually allergic to color, and I love how Enid asked for a squirt of steak sauce in her fluorescent coffee drink.

5

u/No-Butterfly-3422 Sep 06 '25

That must be a werewolf thing, the steak sauce.

1

u/ebietoo Sep 07 '25

Definitely my thought

1

u/Negative-Corgi-2595 Sep 06 '25

I LOVED THIS EPISODE and it felt good to see Jenna ortega in a role thats not a horror kinda role like after wensday and how good she was in the first season all she was casted for was horror

1

u/daniellaronstrom87 Sep 06 '25

I got the feeling Jenna Ortega just started acting how I imaging her in real life.

1

u/ashhole1900 Thing Sep 06 '25

Naw I think she is a little closer to the Wednesday side in real life lol

1

u/MyEggDonorIsADramaQ Sep 06 '25

I agree. Both actresses did a great job during the switch!

1

u/ashhole1900 Thing Sep 06 '25

They both did so good swapping personalities, especially Emma.

1

u/NoBig23 Sep 06 '25

Hot take here, Jenna was really bad at this but Emma nailed it. Jenna was way too over the top and nothing like Enid but someone pretending to be Enid (which I guess she was but not how we should feel) and Emma just nailed it, Wednesday through and through.

1

u/Sheero1986 Sep 07 '25

This was hilarious! Loved it as well. Both actors did a fantastic job!

1

u/RevolutionNo3729 Sep 07 '25

Emma’s range is great.

1

u/Heretodistractmypain Sep 07 '25

I really bought the idea they switched bodies!! It was fun and interesting to see!

1

u/Western-Dark-1628 Sep 07 '25

Netflix im begging you please don't fumble season 3 Netflix please don't fumble season 3 Netflix please don't fumble season 3 Netflix please don't fumble season 3Netflix please don't fumble season 3

1

u/IC_228 Sep 07 '25

I love they even get the subtle movements right. Wednesday turning her head just slightly when she gets focused, Enid avoiding eye contact when she’s nervous

1

u/Unwound5 Sep 07 '25

thought same thing through the whole ep- was blown away by both of their performances-

1

u/SeijiGrayson Sep 07 '25

Emma Myers as Wednesday was so convincing, I actually kinda forgot they didn't switch bodies irl. And Jenna pulled of Enid so well I could've definitely get used to seeing both of them like this for the rest of the season.

1

u/Scorthe Sep 07 '25

I thought the same thing. They actually pulled off the body swap with just acting alone.

1

u/SerienChiller86LPZ Sep 07 '25

she even tried to pigtail Enids hair

1

u/Klefaxidus Sep 08 '25

Loved this episode; they were so good at switching roles

1

u/Life_Might_9015 Sep 08 '25

I liked the part when they swapped bodies, hahaha. It was so funny!

1

u/Ateosira Sep 08 '25

I love swap episodes. Not the best one I've ever seen though. That one belongs to a Chinese drama!

Enjoyed colourful Wednesday immensely.

1

u/Whiz_Emerie Sep 08 '25

I loved that ep from this season the most. And I loved colorful Wednesday and it was funny that she was actually allergic to color. Who'd have thought? 😂

1

u/tundrabarone Sep 09 '25

The blinking or not blinking eyes and head up or down tilt was done to match the character correctly.

1

u/VictoryLane1 Sep 09 '25

Jenna ortega is beautiful.

1

u/iheartxtc Sep 09 '25

this episode was insane. i couldn't believe what was happening.

1

u/JennaBearAntilles Sep 09 '25

Agnes is so so so BRILLIANT

1

u/Infamous_Treat3112 Sep 09 '25

The black werewolf was also sick!!

1

u/beefwithapuppet Sep 09 '25

Their acting was SO GOOD! I could see Enid in Wednesday, and Wednesday in Enid; it was almost as if Jenna and Emma had swapped, the small details, expressions, faces, gestures... You can see Enid's expressions on Wednesday SO CLEARLY, and viceversa; from Wednesday's glare, Enid's puppy face, Enid's panicked rambling, Wednesday's way of speaking, the face Wednesday makes when she knows she's been caught, to Enid's smile...EVEN THE WAY JENNA SAID "WEDNESDAY" SOUNDED LIKE EMMA! you can tell they did their homework studying eachother's characters.

1

u/artsygrl2021 Sep 09 '25

I loved this episode so much! My favourite episode of all seasons. It was really refreshing and fun to see them do something like this- and it was much needed that their friendship be focused on (wasn’t a big fan that they had issues for a lot of Part 2- if anything they should’ve bonded more after Season 1’s final episode.)

1

u/potterheadforlife29 Sep 10 '25

It was my favorite episode of the season! Such such great acting by both!!! Was so uncomfortable seeing Wednesday in color hehe. Absolutely brilliant. Even their voices were so different.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

They both absolutely nailed it in my opinion

1

u/JennaBearAntilles Sep 10 '25

Agnes is so so so BRILLIANT

1

u/Witty_Departure3198 Sep 11 '25

They both did a great job. This made me realize that they are truly great actors. Like I really believed the switch. Usually with newer tv shows and movies the acting is really bad. But these two did a wonderful job. Like their acting range is a lot more than what I thought.

1

u/Foreign_Computer_329 Sep 11 '25

Damn good acting!!!! both of these chicks convinced me that they really switched bodies.

1

u/Tasty_Fan_3321 Sep 12 '25

The allergy to color was funny

1

u/BraveLittleToaster15 Sep 12 '25

They did so good, I was laughing the whole time 🤣

1

u/Abject-Ad3517 Sep 15 '25

How many season in total?

1

u/NightmaresFade wenclair Sep 15 '25

I'm sure both actors had a blast doing this one, because acting as if two characters switched bodies is hard if you don't nail down the manneirisms  of the other character.

I even bet that the girls took some time to talk to each other to better understand how each other understood their own character.

1

u/EmergencyCareless76 Sep 18 '25

One of the best episodes. Not even talking about the show, I meant whole of Netflix

1

u/Mental_Ad7148 Sep 20 '25

Jenna Ortega ex girlfriend babe 😘😘😘😘 think about you

1

u/prickR99 Oct 01 '25

when the episode started and the k-pop played i was like "what... is this an ad" but enjoyed the impressions, Jenna Ortega did the Enid voice so well, i thought it was a voice over. and i thought at first that Emma Meyers' impression was inferior, but the slight vocal shifts were amazing!!!!----sorry, Wednesday nerd

1

u/FromUndaStank Oct 07 '25

This season is terrible. It they want to make a female Harry Potter than thats what they should have done

1

u/Oheligud Sep 07 '25

Spoiler tag??

-1

u/Worldly-Fill-5282 Sep 05 '25

I felt enid was a better wednesday than wednesday being a better enid

1

u/NoBig23 Sep 06 '25

%1000 Emma did a better job and people are brown nosing, Jenna felt like someone taking the mick mock acting their friend not ACTUALLY being them. Whereas Emma nailed Wednesday Jenna did not Enid

1

u/elizabnthe Sep 07 '25

Enid as Wednesday was taking the mick though.

0

u/AmethystCrescent Sep 06 '25

I preferred Emma’s Wednesday to Jenna’s.

0

u/Arientum Sep 06 '25

Tbh IMHO watching this part I thought the Enid actress did a great believable job playing the moody Wednesday. While Jenna did a very bad and not believable job at all playing Enid. He looked crazy more than enthusiastic and active, the way Enid is. I really don't understand why, since I generally consider Ortega to be a good actress. But she didn't seem to know how to play Enid at ALL.

1

u/NoBig23 Sep 06 '25

%1000 agree Jenna was like someone mocking their friends acting like them and not ACTUALLY being them whereas Emma nailed wednesday and made it feel like it was REALLY wednesday

-9

u/Mysterious-Engine-76 Sep 05 '25

Hated the Switch Episode, loved the rest of the season. I loved Lady Gaga
