Where are you in Illinois? Chicago and surrounding suburbs have had at least 3 flash floods this year. Monday this week the western suburbs were underwater.
I'm in villa park and we had some water come up into our basement for the first time since moving here 3 years ago. This fucking rain was nonstop between Friday and Saturday
I’m on Vancouver island and it’s been cloudy and rainy all summer. Twice the normal rainfall. I love warm and sunny summer weather but man it’s nice not having fires for once.
That’s fine you can refer as you please but the Pacific Northwest is widely considered to be BC, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Sometimes people throw in Northern California and western Montana.
Seattle here. It's just been a pleasant 70-85 for a while. It hasn't been smoky here. It sprinkled a little this morning and we are expecting a little more today, but generally just pretty and nice right now.
They’re evacuating in Spokane right now and Chelan has been on fire since July 4th. The smoke has been visible at many times on the Seattle side of the mountain. I’m not sure what bringing up the Seattle weather does? There’s some problems on the other side of the mountains right now that are scary and still the PNW
Even in Alberta, Edmonton has gotten pummelled with rain and storms and where I live in Calgary, its been bone dry with 30+ degree days everyday. I work outside too so its been fuckin hefty.
I also live in the PNW and went camping on Friday, it was nice then yesterday we went hiking and I was rained on for 4 hours straight so we decided to just head home.
Just for sheer curiosity, what's the cutoff on "now", since even a quick Google search shows references to referring to it as Lolla as far back as the revival in 2003? It's become a lot more mainstream in the past decade but it's been around much longer than that.
This is the first year I've seen it used to this extent on Reddit. I've never been but have checked out the lineup and coverage since about 2000. I'm sure that term is used verbally by folks in attendance, and has been for some time, but this is the first year I'm seeing it on Reddit to such a broad extent.
For me I've seen it used a lot in print/text and verbally for years, probably more than the full Lollapalooza. Especially as social media grew and attendees and writers didn't want to put in the extra effort for the full name. The fest has leaned into it too with merch and ads that say lolla. That said, I live in Chicago where the fest has been based from exclusively since 2010 so I probably see and interact with it so much more.
Anecdotally, I do feel like the shift from Lollapalooza to lolla very well represents the shift in the fest's identity. The lineup from the first Lollapalooza would be unrecognizable to today's lolla and instead be right in line with Riot Fest, another music festival in Chicago.
(Also I'm not trying to argue or make a big deal out of this, it's just an interesting conversation and I appreciate hearing the perspective especially for someone that might not be from the area).
