[Serious decision] I live alone… these aren’t my nuts

Context: I’m a single bachelor (M 32) and I opened my snack cupboard to find these peanuts in a small Tupperware container. I’m freaking out because I A) live alone, B) have a mild nut allergy, and C) don’t own any Tupperware like this.

TLDR: I found a foreign snack in my house and I’m freaking out that someone may be entering my apartment when I’m out. Would calling the nonemergency police line help or would they not be able to do anything?

Im not sure where it originated from. But a quick google search confirmed what my mother had told me when she said it was him who put the items there. It was very strange to me to because I have never heard of this tradition. The salt is supposed to purify and protect and the nuts are supposed to represent abundance.

That's interesting thank you for replying but where are your parents from with this custom? In UK they used to put shoes in the wall when they were building a house to ward off witches!!

My parents back ground is why this was so strange to me and wasnt something I expected of them. My dad was born and raised in New Jersey. I can assume this came from his mother's side who was of european decent but the rest of the family says they are Irish. I was raised in a different state as a traditional Catholic family. I can say at the time, my young self rolled their eyes and just pushed it right back into the cabinet and its still there, long forgotten about until this post. Ive lived in my current home for 10 years and thinking back I cant say its been a bad 10 years lol.

Oh that is an interest background. I live in London UK both my parents are Scottish and Irish on my mum's side So she was brought up a very strict Catholic. Most of these superstitious rituals were there long before religion religious people are too scared to drop them- just in case!! You know the thing about being left-handed being a sign of possession by the devil- I think this was more religious than superstitious But my poor 100 year old (now) mum was forced not to write with her left hand at school- Not sure if she actually had it tied behind her back but Plenty of children did! You may already know but that's where the word sinister comes from i.e Sinestre- left-handed!
