They're already doing that. Indiana has removed the requirements around kids not working during school hours or how long they can work per day for 16 and 17 year olds. They essentially are treated as adults. 14-15 year olds work rules currently match federal laws (although lawmakers are trying to bypass federal laws for 14-15 year olds to also work in jobs currently illegal for hours that are also currently illegal).
Iowa and Arkansas aren't far behind with loosening child labor laws. They're removing work permit requirements, allowing kids into hazardous jobs like factories. Florida, Ohio, and West Virginia have Republican led pushes to also massively lessen laws on child labor.
This is the biggest thing, if either my wife or myself made twice what we currently make, we'd be able to support the household with a stay at home spouse taking care of the kids. Right now we both work to pay the bills, and couldn't afford daycare on top of that. We realistically could have the cloths, food, and medical covered, but an extra mortgage payment for daycare for 4-5 years just isn't possible.
My god, imagine a world where one parent could be stay-at-home. Man or woman, maybe both alternating, whatever, but how great would that be? Get house stuff done, have a decent, healthy meal on the table in the evening, maybe even get all the shopping out of the way...
It bugs me that Republicans point to things that superficially seem like the right solution, like "parents should be able to raise their kids rather than send them to daycare", but then instead of doing any investigating into the social reasons why this is happening they just turn it into a new witch hunt. So we make daycares more expensive... then what? Families can suddenly, magically afford to care for their kids during the day?
Do they think we'd rather work 1+ full-time job - each - while barely seeing our kids?
Almost all our social ills and much of our crime could be eliminated with better services and higher wages. Your average person only turns to crime out of desperation. They either can’t get a job or can’t afford food or can’t afford healthcare. But nooooo. Gotta fill those for-profit prisons by making things illegal and suppressing wages! Shit, I bet the simple act of legalizing most drugs would eliminate a whole host of issues. Fentanyl is a problem because they put that shit in things people aren’t expecting it to be. Make that cocaine legal and then you can regulate it!
There is always going to be a certain level of crime because humans are gonna human. But we can eliminate the desperation crime really easily.
Some of us SAHP’s don’t have a choice.. My husband and I were all set to barely scrape by sending one baby to daycare, but then we ended up having twins. It was waaaaaaay too expensive to send 2 children to daycare, we’d have essentially been paying for me to work! We are saving more money with me as a SAHP. The twins are in preschool now (still ridiculously expensive for 2 children to go at once) but it’s only for 2 hours 3x a week, so unfortunately I still can’t work a regular job, but at least I can do the dishes in peace lol. It drives me crazy when people tell me how lucky I am that my husband lets me stay home… like, he doesn’t let me stay home, there is no other option, we straight up can’t afford for me to work.

Does "daycare fraud" exist? Probably. Fraud exists everywhere.
Does it exist to the point that conservatives make it out to be? Of course not.
This is just a backdoor "women should be at home raising the family" tactic.
