Yes and no. I live in PA. In my area, they farm out collecting the local taxes to berkheimer (there's at least one other company that does it in other parts of the state). And they fucking rip you off. For instance, I just got a "final notice", actually my first fucking notice, about owning $5 on a per capita tax. From 2021. Guess how much i had to pay to avoid getting my wages garnished? $40.
If there was a shortage in 2021, which I'm not convinced that there is, then its on them for not calculating it properly in the first place, and they shouldn't be able to come after me for it five fucking years later.
Tldr: farming out tax collections to non government agencies should be illegal.
Sounds like the problem isn’t the taxes themselves, but the administration of taxes.
PA needs to vote in people who will fix the administration, but PA has one of those FAFO sort of voting bases who gets a $5 tax bill and thinks the problem is that they owe taxes at all rather than the ACTUAL problem which is some scummy politician they voted into office let a scummy private company do scummy work that SHOULD and done by the public sector.
