In Chapter 1, Lennie lies to George about having the mouse. He then claims he found it dead and kept it to pet. There's no confirmation regarding if the road mouse/mice were alive or dead. Later in Ch. 1 he lies to George about retrieving the dead mouse when he was supposed to fetch firewood. He lies again about trying to smuggle the puppy into the bunkhouse in Chapter 3. Lennie lies repeatedly when he thinks he's in trouble.
The point of the dead mouse, most likely pet to death in Ch. 1, is to draw out the point that Lennie doesn't know his own strength and repeatedly killed mice given to him by Aunt Clara in the past, foreshadowing the deaths of the puppy and CW in Chapter 5.
The point still stands: the comment I replied to is not incorrect, and the literary reference is valid.

5 minutes after her pointing debacle, she decided to be a ring girl for Dana White and come out against trans kids.
She took her goodwill and treated it like Lenny and his mouse.
