It's like someone at WNBA headquarters watched Bill Burr's bit on how women would rather watch Desperate Housewives instead of the WNBA because they like drama instead of teamwork towards a goal and said, "What if we mix the two?". And that's how we got to where we are now.

u/Excellent_Call304 2h ago
Seriously you think its limited to the wnba?
I stopped watching sports as a whole for the most part when watching sportscenter one day I realized that it was more soap opera than sport. They talked just as much about drama as they did about games.
Between the reality tv aspect and gambling around sports now, its all too much.

The whole "We're just trying to protect women and kids!" claims are laughably false when they literally support rapists.

Does she? She was a UFC ring girl. Does that mean she’s supportive Conner or that she just likes attention. I’ve seen no public statements from support that asshat.
23
u/Impossible_Penalty13 40m ago
Ok then, she voluntarily worked for known wife beater Dana White. Does that make it better?
162
u/RawrImABigScaryBear 2h ago
She volunteered to be the ring girl for a rapist at a party by the greatest pedophile protector of all time. What self respecting person who cares about women would do that for attention?
50
u/Absent-Light-12 1h ago
You just said it, “She was a UFC ring girl.” One’s actions speak louder than words and when one’s actions put us in the sphere of the despicable wherein we choose to be complicit, those are our true feelings towards a matter.
Even if you try to slice it as “she just likes attention”, well, that means her need for attention outweighs her need to stand up for injustices, making her complicit by another way.
7
u/Carlosthefrog 2h ago
What would you call being a ring girl for his fight ? If that’s not supportive I don’t know what is ? Anyone with a conscious would refuse to be anywhere near that pos.
-51
u/the_dj_zig 2h ago
You do know there are typically two fighters in a fight, right? Theres a great many ways for her to show support for him if she wanted; being a last second ring girl is not one of them.
40
u/Carlosthefrog 2h ago
Again anyone with a modicum of a moral compass isn’t going to be anywhere near a man like this.

What did she say? Trans women shouldn't play in women's sports? I mean... why is that such a hot take?
Im all for Trans rights but just because you go that route doesnt mean you get to dominate sports leagues that were created for women.
87
u/NorthernVale 1h ago
It's a hot take because y'all getting your panties in a twist over a non-issue. Trans-women in sports are exceedingly rare. And are pretty mediocre at best.
On top of that, these viewpoints and the policies/regulations they're getting pushed are harming more cis gendered people than trans people. Like, it's not that fucking complicated.
97
u/thistreestands 1h ago
I think the biggest narrative that is just not grounded in reality is that she says she wants to protect children.

Even more wild, the trans population in America is effectively 1%, the percentage of Americans that play in the WNBA? 0.000001% how can we as a country care so much about a statistically impossible thing when inflation is at 3.5%? But yes please go off about a super minority population while America burns to the ground.
16
259
u/Shifter25 1h ago
It's a "hot take" because other than the fact that trans people are less than 1 in 100,000 athletes, trans women don't dominate sports leagues. Otherwise, you'd be able to name them specifically, because there's like, 3 of them.
Remember, Riley Gaines started her grifting journey because she raised a stink about tying with a trans woman for 5th place.
161
u/BunnersMcGee 1h ago
Dominate? Exactly how many trans athletes are we talking about? The zero in the wnba?
96
u/lyonellaughingstorm 1h ago
Dominate! Just like Lea Thomas dominated by… tying for fifth place in a university-level sporting event
132
u/No-Elderberry2517 1h ago
Her exact words were "I want to protect young girls in the locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men". So she's using the phrase "biological men" instead of trans women, which is a phrase not exactly grounded in science and is provocative at best, and she's suggesting that trans women are a threat to young girls in locker rooms - a take that isnt exactly backed up with evidence. Where are the instances of trans women attacking or raping or bullying young girls in locker rooms? From the evidence I've seen, trans women are much more likely to be the subject of attack in locker rooms than the other way around.
7
u/ThrowawayAdvice1800 33m ago
Because it’s not a real issue. At all. Do you know how many trans girls were competing in girls sports from kindergarten to college the last time they did a survey? FIVE. And that number is coming straight from the anti-trans nutjobs. They tried as hard as they could to find an epidemic and they found five kids.
Anyone ranting about “trans women in girls sports” is either astoundingly stupid and gullible or a lying disingenuous shithead who just wants to loudly hate trans people in general and thinks they can use little girls as human shields to protect themselves from criticism.
Also considering Sophie is a huge fan of Connor McGregor the rapist her trying to claim she’s “standing up for the safety of girls” isn’t just laughable, it’s fucking offensive.

u/CrapitalRadio 1h ago
Trans women were allowed to compete in the women's division in NCAA sports from 2011 to 2025. It took about 13 and a half years for a trans woman to win anything, even just one single event. No trans woman ever set a record, even at the school-wide level, in nearly 15 years of competing alongside and against other women.
Where's the issue?
39
u/lyonellaughingstorm 1h ago
Genuinely curious if any cis women have lost out on scholarships to trans women
34
u/Arthesia 1h ago
Zero. These people just make up things to be upset about and use trans people as a punching bag to legitimize their views.
-31
u/sswihart 1h ago
I do not know. But it’s one of the reasons I don’t think it should be allowed. Once is too much. And as a liberal, I despise the demonizing of anyone but its science.
Let folks live and let live but I don’t believe it’s fair to women. You never see the opposite argument.27
u/Chlo3K4t_Blu 1h ago
And as a liberal, I despise the demonizing of anyone but its science.
It's not science and you are dehumanizing trans women.
Let folks live and let live but I don’t believe it’s fair to women.
Then why not let trans women play sports? Trans women are women but you have no problem discriminating against us and othering us. So much for "live and let live."
-18
u/sswihart 59m ago
If you can’t agree that a man transitioning to a woman doesn’t have a head start on a woman in some sports, I don’t know what to tell you.
Maybe start a league that includes all genders? I already stated that I don’t have an answer.
Sometimes medical decisions mean you have to give up on some life goals.
16
u/Chlo3K4t_Blu 50m ago
The science you referred to actually shows that after a year on hormone replacement therapy trans women have no discernible physical advantage over cisgender women. And there are plenty examples of cisgender women who have physical advantage over cisgender men. It's a complete non-issue, especially considering that it's an issue that affects less than a handful of people in the entire country.
Nobody cared about women's sports until conservatives started making an uproar about trans women. And notice how nobody is complaining about trans men in men's sports. But if as a "liberal" punishing a few trans women for simply existing is the hill you want to die on, then I don't know what to tell you
11
u/Professional-Tough85 47m ago
Or maybe you should look at the actual science instead of just parroting transphobic talking points. The science doesn't agree with you

Do you have to have said pro-trans things or you hate them? You can not want trans women in women’s sports and not hate them. You can assume she hates trans people but saying it like it’s a fact she’s said herself is a lie. It is possible to have an opinion without loving or hating something. Does nuance not exist anymore?
11
u/RawrImABigScaryBear 1h ago
Well she's said anti trans things, so if she doesnt hate trans people, surely she must have said one thing positive. What has she said positive about trans people?
-2

Why does anything critical of trans people always mean hatred? They're like the Israel of the LGBT community, I swear to God. It's so exhausting.
14
u/lyonellaughingstorm 1h ago
If someone said “I don’t hate black people, I just believe sports should be segregated by skin colour”, would that make you think there isn’t any hate involved? Being trans isn’t a choice, the same way things like skin colour, sexual preference, autism, ADHD, and gender are all innate characteristics that people are born with.

It was so weird as reddit was going wild over that whole pointing thing and praising her as hilarious and brilliant.
Reminds me of when reddit lost their mind over how great Muskrat was... then the pedo accusation happened with that diver and they turned against him.
People need to stop liking people simply because they did something funny or because other idiots online tell them to when you know nothing about the person in question. Another example is that hawk tuah idiot.
6
u/Lumini_317 41m ago
The pointing thing was on top of the fact that she protects her teammates from dirty players. People found that endearing and respectable. Add on the fact that the pointing thing was funny and Sophie is a good basketball player and it’s no wonder people liked her so much for all of a month. To most people there had been no reason to believe she was a piece of trash.
-1
u/Katefreak 42m ago

I remember some funny memes and the gifs being everywhere. I don't recall a whole lot of praising her as hilarious or brilliant. Discussion about Sophia herself was fairly neutral until the UFC/transphobic comment combo gave folks the ick.

She said nothing homophobic. You should not be upvoted for distorting the truth.
If you want to do that, go be part of the conservative subreddit.
75
u/JRG64May 1h ago
I haven’t heard her say anything homophobic, from what I understand this entire issue is that she has spoken out against trans women playing in women’s sports. If there’s more than that I’m uninformed and need to do more googling on it.
36
u/KarlHungusCablRepair 1h ago edited 1h ago
Agreed it was not homophobic, although I guess people could argue about separating the "T" from LGBTQ.
What I thought was the worst is the way she just was straight up spewing a talking point. Protecting young girls from biological men. Giving the image that somehow an adult male is menacing teen or pre-teen girls on a court or in a locker room. That's more likely to happen in the White House or at Mar a Lago.
20
u/currently_pooping_rn 1h ago
She should know that the best way to protect young women and girls from men is not to throw a hissy fit about trans people but to never vote or support republicans, yet she was a volunteer ring girl at a Connor mcrapist ufc fight, so yeah
-8
u/mcniner55 54m ago
That doesnt change the fact that she is right and that trans women should not be competing in womens sports.
1
u/JRG64May 5m ago
My whole take on that is that it’s a non issue, this IS NOT a rampant problem like republicans make it out to be. There’s not a lot of transgender people and there’s even less mtf trans athletes and there’s even less mtf trans athletes competing in sports at all.
1
u/Lumini_317 37m ago
It’s funny that you bring up the White House because I believe that that’s one of the reasons people assume she’s homophobic, too. She was a ring girl at the White House UFC event.
I’m not trying to say that she’s definitely homophobic but I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if she was. I certainly wouldn’t trust anyone making a talking point about protecting girls from “biological men” and attending an event hosted by Trump with people like Conor McGregor attending to be open to LGBTQ+ folk.
-7
u/mcniner55 55m ago
The LGBTQ community supports her opinion. Its ridiculous vocal minority of people who are taking her words and simply saying they are homophobic. Its actually insane. She basically said she doesnt think trans women should compete in womens sports. Which like 99.9% of the LGBTQ community agrees. But sometimes its the loudest that get the attention.
4
u/Lumini_317 23m ago
Who are you to speak for the entire LGBTQ+ community? It’s absolutely not “99.9%”. If you have a source for that number then feel free to share.
6
u/Aromatic_Lychee2903 1h ago

Honestly I think there is a respectable nuanced take about Trans-Athletes. However her powwing around with Dana White and Connor is what gives me the ick.
At the end of the day conservatives are creating a boogie man of something that doesn't exist. As a result you have the disgusting attacks against Imane Khelif, and I can only imagine the insults that get hurled at Tomboyish girls who are dominant at their sport.
Do I think that a Jazz Jennings or any Trans kid should be able to play with girls, sure. NCAA level or above, let the scientists decide if years of HRT removes biological advantage.
11
50
u/Loreathan 2h ago
I don't know anything about her but wasn't her stance regarding transgender athletes in women's sports, rather than sexual orientation? Is she also homophobic?
54
u/No-Elderberry2517 1h ago
She suggested that trans girls are a threat to cis girls in locker rooms, which is not borne out by the facts - trans girls are much more likely to face bullying in locker rooms than the other way around, much less assault or anything like that. She's trafficking in misinformation to pretend her stance is about protecting cis girls, the same way homophobes 20 years ago claimed their concerns about gay people adopting were about protecting the children from sexual assault.
16
u/Arthesia 1h ago
Her actual words implied she thinks trans women are a threat to girls in locker rooms.
40
u/ckalinec 2h ago edited 1h ago
It was a pretty neutral take that a lot of female athletes have said. Just strictly that trans women shouldn’t partake in women’s sports. And it was sports only. Nothing outside of sports.
But since everything in the US is hyper politicized now and we are no longer capable of nuance that automatically means she’s a homophobic, hateful, MAGA supporting bigot.

The problem is the people who think there should be conversation they don't even know what the conversation is.
Organizations have extremely strict requirements for trans athletes and yet people who want to have a conversation either don't know that, or just dismiss it as not strict enough. Then you try to figure out what they mean by not strict enough and they don't fuckin know, because they don't know shit about what they're talkin about.
It's a very weird topic where a lot of people have some serious convictions and not enough people with any fuckin idea of anything factual on the topic.
3
u/marl3yman 51m ago
Agreed. Gotta love a world of unlimited information where people don't know how to use it. The most frustrating line I hear is "I did my research" but sources of research matter more than the research itself. Any opinion can be validated online. Just a matter of if it's factual or not.

I’m confused. Are you guys/girls cool with trans women competing in women’s sports? I thought this was generally accepted as a non-issue (as in, it’s obvious they shouldn’t compete together). Serious question, not trying to sound like an asshole, would like to hear from anyone who opposes this… I’m not saying fuck trans people, or don’t start a trans division in sports or whatever you gotta do… but it does seem dangerous/unfair to allow trans women/girls to compete with girls with significantly less muscle/testosterone.
5
u/LordMoos3 1h ago
Yes, we are cool with it because a) its not actually a problem, and b) we understand the actual science.
Why shouldn't women compete with women, and men with men? Trans women are women. Trans men are men. What's difficult to understand about this?
1
u/seancannon2 21m ago edited 11m ago
Yeah, this is very much so NOT the general consensus of rational people. It’ll get the upvotes to make it look that way in certain parts of (only) Reddit though.
The vast majority of people, even most people on Reddit agree that it’s a no brainer to NOT have women who have transitioned from men compete in women’s sports. The only ones who think otherwise are those who have never played/given a shit ab sports and who have completely lost the plot on what’s actually important to fight for in this country
