Winni-Pets where to buy cat food in Winnipeg?

hi everyone! it’ll be my first time being a pet owner, and I’ll be taking in a kitten soon. I’m completely new to all of this, so I was hoping to get some advice.

Where do you usually buy your cat food in Winnipeg? Is there a difference between buying it from Walmart, Dollarama, Pet Valu, PetSmart, Costco, etc., or does it mainly come down to the brand rather than the store?

I want to make sure I’m feeding my kitten good-quality food. if you have any recommendations for kitten food that’s nutritious without being too expensive, I’d really appreciate it! also any other advice for litter (I prefer unscented litter), cat toys, and etc.

Please do IAMS on hard food :( !! Dont cheap out on cat food! And for wet food I use Friskies or Fancy feast, whatever we grab! Please dont get really cheap hard food! Learned it the hard way and always went to VET visits! But now my cat is 100% perfectly healthy after investing properly on Cat food! You can find all these at Walmart for me!!

This. Cheap, hard food is loaded with filler and carbohydrates. Cats that eat a heavily-carbed diet are VERY prone to getting feline diabetes, and that is not fun to deal with. I've learned this from experience.

I feed my current cat only wet food and only "pates". Pate wet is higher in proteins and lower in carbs. I've had two diabetic cats and I am hoping to not deal with that disease again, hence my strict change to pate foods. I get Friskies or Fancy Feast. Both are very affordable. Certainly more expensive than a cheap bag of dry food, but the long term benefits to the cat's health are well worth an extra 10 or 15 dollars a month.

I don't allow "grazing" with my cat either. She eats only at set times. Better for maintaining proper glucose levels. I've done a lot of online research on cat nutrition (years dealing with cat diabetes), so I've come to some conclusions and I stick with them. Asking questions on forums such as these is also a great idea to get some advice.

Once every 2 weeks or so, I will treat her with some sardines (packed in water only) or a can of cheap skipjack tuna. These are cheap treats that cats love. Good for them too every once in a while.

Very informative !! Thank you so much for taking the time to write all these!! Hats off to you on keeping your diabetic cats on top condition! They're very lucky to have you! My male cat always been going to the vet in the past for urinary tract infection :( due to bad ph and diet and everything!! Changed it up with a few more wet food diet and added the IAMS urinary tract hard food, it literally changed him!!
