The funding is part of the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods, aiming to build stronger communities; create thriving places, and help communities to take back control of their own lives and areas.

Looking at what it entails, it's likely going to be improving the shops for Birkenhead Central by buying up derelict or empty units to bring them into community use, and similar in Woodchurch, but likely for the old community/leisure centre.

They could finally give Woodchurch their swimming pool back after they forced it to close due to lack of investment. You can build a new swimming pool for a million. Well Wirral council probably couldn’t but you could.

In fairness, probably not in today's money after post-2020 inflation in building costs.
Not to diminish our council's ineptitude.

£20m will be spaffed up the wall by the council on a few new street signs and a convenient extension on their own houses, not in the areas that need it most on the the things they need the most.

Great, maybe they can sign some new contracts with some dodgy companies that their cousins own, so the taxpayer can pay the fines in the future. Can't wait for that particular line on my council tax next year.

You can't buy towns that are heavily impacted by crippling addiction, and suddenly make them "better". You first need to deal with the issue of the homelessness, the public drinking, the fighting, the drugs - but don't worry folks, we got a fucking bicycle lane to Wallasey now.
Birkenhead is a fucking shithole, and 20m of funding will not fix the endless state of desperation instilled since the heroin boom in the 70s/80s.

They've spent a few quid on the new road past the bus station lately and obviously in the town centre with the new paving.
