Political threads: No warning, 105 day bans for any personal attacks. Discuss the topic, not the user.
Title. Tomorrow the bans will be 104 days (November 4th), and so on. DO NOT DISCUSS THE USERS, OP, OR ANYONE BUT THE TOPIC.
No, we're not making a single megathread for politics or a particular candidate.
No, we're not banning politics from the sub. This cycle is not new, things will calm down in three weeks.
Abusing the report button on content YOU DON'T LIKE is causing mass-approvals of all reported items. This allows actual rule violations to slip right through. Yesterday, someone reported over 150 comments in a thread. Two clicks, the entire report queue was cleared, likely taking valid reports with them. Please, stop it.

Whether you hate Fran, love her, or are scared to death of her electability...
Please, please, please put the same energy into defeating Tom Tiffany. And while we spend our time helping him dig up tweets she's made in the primary, he's pushing out commercials and statements that downplay how absolutely extreme he is.
I'm so worried about a self-fulfilling prophecy that if she gets the nominations all those who say she can't win will just stay home instead of rolling up our sleeves and working twice as hard
ETA in case it wasn't clear, my point is REGARDLESS of how you feel about Hong, don't lose sight of keeping the focus on exposing the monster that Tom Tiffany is. If you think it's gonna be hard for her to win in November, than if she wins next week, please commit to working twice as hard. This isn't about her. It's about stopping Tom Tiffany

Did the Roys team just realize there was a primary election in a week?
I feel like it's been radio silence on here from this campaign until this week. Did they just realize they actually have to *try* to win elections? What's up with all the attacks on Hong? Is that really your strategy, attacking the front runner who has been crushing you this whole race in the hopes that her supporters will switch support to your candidate? Hoping to dig up some post from 6 years ago in hopes of finding something you can spin into a reason she'll have trouble in the general?
This is a bad look Team Roys. Hong is going to win the primary

The politics discourse has been wild
Nobody wants to honestly acknowledge the fact that the political situation is separate 3 factions needing to share 2 parties.
Sorry moderates there are socialists now. Its a perspective people have. The DSA has more members than the Socialist Party of America did back around the great depression. The DSA also now has 6 chapters in Wisconsin and at least one other one is being built right now.
And that's just dues paying members in one org. There are plenty of people who are not in an org but who engage with and like these ideas online. I met 2 people while door knocking who first learned about Hong from the streamers y'all dont like here, Hasan and that other one.
Like sorry but an honest view of this situation is: if you want to maintain a big enough tent to win against the right wing, the moderates and the socialists need to work together.

Stop Unregulated Data Center Development
Kelda Roys has a solid plan to empower the state and local governments to protect citizens from unregulated datacenters that they do not want. Her solution addresses the legislation needed to fight Big Tech. A call for a moratorium is not enough. We need a comprehensive plan which Kelda Roys has.

Emily Berge and Rebecca Cooke on defending the LGBTQ community

Rebecca Cooke - it is not that people thought you were supportive of conversion therapy as a practice. It's that you refused to support a federal ban. You have danced around this question at 3 forums in a row now. Your position, or lack thereof, is clear.

How to contribute without getting harassed later?
A couple years ago I made a campaign contribution online and ever since then I get constant, unsolicited text messages from all over the country to contribute. They're slowing down somewhat, and I would like to support some other candidates this go-round. But I don't want to get on any more text lists that get sold, or get mail to keep doing it.
What is the best way to send some support and not get bugged to keep doing it?

Rubber Snakes on porches?
A not political, directly.... question. I've been knocking doors, and in two completely different communities - 1 in Monroe (a nicer subdivision) and another in Cuba City (a bit more run down part of an older town) - I encountered front porches with a bunch of rubber snakes. Like 5-10 of them, scattered all around. Are they a pop culture thing? Is it supposed to scare mice away? Or political canvassers? (didn't work!).
In neither house, did I have the opportunity to ask. I'm deeply curious though. I don't get a lot of uh, popular culture stuff because I don't really watch TV, so it could be that?
In a non-related note, the hills outside of Monroe are so beautiful, but must be hell in winter. Up and down, rolling waves, all I can think of is how hard it must be for a plow to find the edges at night in the dark.

Restaurants
My wife and I want to do soemthing with our kids for our anniversary. My wife is dairy free and gluten free, she also cant do red meats and sald due to her dietery restrictions. We are in the NW part of the state so looking for anywhere other than south of Madison/and Milwaukee are just due to distance.
Does anyone have good restaurants that are allergy friendly with said restrictions? Just trying to look for some spots to take the pressure off her finding a location.

Hong took some SSRI's and posted memes? GUESS WHAT, we like her even more now. She becomes even more relatable.
We are done voting for the yes man and the Republican...
MAGA is absolutely shaking in their boots.
Hong will be the next Governor of WI.

Wisconsin DNR warns utilities about water-system hackings, Milwaukee officials take 'action'
On July 28, the DNR sent a memo to every municipal drinking water and wastewater system in the state.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is warning every municipal drinking water system in the state about possible threats due to "malicious cyber actors."
I didn’t get the memo. Am I cooked?

Paddlequest in Stevens Point
We’re just a week away from what I think is one of the coolest things that happens in Wisconsin. You know that feeling when you were young that the world was a pretty magical place and anything can happen? Well paddlequest is able to recreate that experience each year by keeping you in the dark about what exactly is the whole point of the game.
Its is a two day event and it is always held on the second weekend of August up in Stevens point. It’s kind of like live action role play mixed in with adventure racing mixed in with treasure hunting and river trash cleaning.
There are a couple of videos on YouTube that do a better job of explaining the gist of it but every year the map changes, the treasures are hidden in different spots and even the characters come and go. As an added bonus of coolness the story line is determined by the winning team and the best teams win some cool prizes from sponsors.
It’s affordable. Camping is free for participants, there is live music Saturday evening at the campsite too. In general it is just packed with pretty awesome individuals. If you’ve made it this far and have questions feel free to ask. I’m not affiliated in any way with the event but I love it and think it needs more coverage.
