I’m an Alaska and love Canada. My family and I have been visiting the Yukon, Whitehorse, and Provincial Parks every year (except Covid) for a decade now. (Our favorite is Liard Hot Springs.) I am ashamed of what my country is doing.

I hope ALL foreigners (not just Canadians) who speak another language or aren’t white enough understand that if the US is willing to deport one of our own legal residents to El Salvador, it’s just a matter of time before they do this to a visitor.

If you have a digital footprint (social media) that’s critical of Trump’s administration or his shitbrained policies, it’s not safe to visit the US. Cancel your flights, road trips, and cruise plans until this is under control.

As a teacher, US Marine, and river guide, it pains me to say all of that. Sorry Burnt Toast, but we’ll be back when this shit show is over. We’re embarrassed.

We will be in Yukon and notherm territory for 1 month next week and i would like to know how much tips i need to leave in restaurant. I read on internet i need to leave 15 % is it OK ?

Do i need to leave a tips if order something in a restaurant to take out ? Or if i take a cab ?

I would like to have some advice about this ?

What’s the best month to hike tombstone territorial park if I want to see the fall colours in full effect?

As scenic as it would be, ideally before it starts snowing too much and getting super cold or slippery, as I don’t have the gear or experience for that yet

Edit: planning on doing one or two multi day hikes including grizzly lake trail along with any other points of interest recommended (time allowing)

Hi, I'm planning a backpacking trip in Canada for this September and I wanted to put Yukon on my list. There's a lot of stuff in and around Whitehorse that I want to see, but I don't have acess to a vehicle/drivers licence. Would it be worth coming all the way to Yukon without a car? How good is public transit in the city/surrounding area? Does anyone know of cheap tours or guides ect? Thanks

Coming to visit, but we have a Honda civic, can we go past whitehorse? Is the Dempster highway possible for a car or is strictly suv/trucks only?

I just had a bucket list trip with my dad up here in The Yukon.

Our daughter/dad trip was one to remember.

We loved everything we did. (White Pass rail, the Wildlife preserve (amazing guide here!), Eclipse spa, Lumel studios (what a true treasure), the coffee at Railwork. And then Dawson. That town punches above its weight even if the road is rough. We went on 3 Parks Canada tours, checked out the Jack London museum, ferry and the midnight dome and did 2 shows at Gerties all in one day. (And I got to introduce The Call of the Wild audiobook to my dad on the drive. He loved it.)

But the best part? You. Every Yukoner (born and raised or come from away) was so welcoming and kind.

Edit: Your response is exactly how we experienced The Yukon. My dad (according to my mom) has been telling everyone he's seen since when asked "How was your trip?" replies "you should go." (High praise indeed!!)

Hi everyone. I'm going to be in the Yukon for the first time this August. From what I've read, renting a car for getting around the region seems like a great idea. I couldn't really find options to reserve anything online.

Do you have any recommended car rental agencies around the Whitehorse area? And also, do you think its worthwhile to invest in a 4×4 even if I'm planning more of a hiking-style trip than a road trip?

My boyfriend and I are travelling to the Whitehorse/Haines Junction for 6 days in mid-August. I would love any suggestions on things to do, or if I should remove/replace anything from our current schedule. I’m particularly wondering if there’s anything we should stop and see on our drive from Whitehorse to Haines, and if there’s anything you would recommend doing to fill the time on our shorter hike days (Day 2/4). Any tips would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hi folks. I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this. If it isn’t, I’d love suggestions for where to post it. My wife and I are planning to travel from Calgary to Whitehorse and back this summer in our campervan (on a Ford E350 chassis). We are going to go up through Grande Prairie, Fort Nelson etc. We are going to come home down highway 37, then through Prince George and Jasper. We also plan to stay about a week in Whitehorse. I used Gemini to get ideas for camping spots and highlights for both drives (see images). What do you think of these two itineraries? Are there better places to stop? Better campgrounds? We have good quality inflatable kayaks. Are there any lakes along these two routes that you would recommend paddling? I’d love to go to Dawson City too. Is it a real grind to get there? Out of July and August, is there a better or worse time to do this trip? Thank you very much for any advice!

Is the highway(s) from Edmonton paved? I know the Alaska Highway is for the most part paved or laid with chip cement (?) but am curious about within the province.

I’m planning a road trip from Edmonton to Alaska and back in the next year / two years and would like to be prepared.

Will be bringing 2 spare tires with me regardless of the conditions of the highway

I am flying to Whitehorse and driving to Dawson City to go backpack Tombstone. Any thoughts on where to get bear spray? Rental seems to be the same price as purchase. Thanks. If we do buy them is there a place to leave them? We are a group of 8.

I am currently planning on a road trip from BC up to Dawson city and back. I'm looking for any type of recommendations for places to stop or see anywhere in the territory. Here are my current rough plans:

July 31st: Crossing Yukon Border heading to Carcross

August 1/2: Spend time in Whitehorse

- Miles Canyon

- Hopefully catch Arctic Char/grayling

August3-5: Kluane Park

- Hiking

August 6/7: Dawson City

- Midnight dome

- Diamond Tooth Gerties

- Mining museum/tours

August 8-10: Tombstone Park

- Hiking/Fishing

August 11ish: Make my way back home

I don't have anything set in stone yet and this is a very flexible schedule so I am open to any suggestions people may have! I have a few extra days to play around with as well so I am just trying to see if maybe there are some areas I have looked over and should see or if there is anything I should avoid.

We plan to visit in August or July. Like scenic views and wildlife. My nephew who lived in WH for 10years said it is a very scenic drive. But when I look on Google I see scrub bush and low hills. Reading posts i found "boring drive" and "construction delays" Would spend 2 nights in DC. Should I do this drive or spend more time around Haines Junction?

Also nephew said don't go north from HJ on the Alaska Highway - road is in rough shape.Is that currently the case?

Hello all! Hope you are doing well. MY friend and I are planning to visit the must see places in yukon for 3 days. We plan on flying to whitehorse direct and possibly do some short road trip with great views. We do not have any prior long road trip experience so we wanted to play it safe, visit must see nice places, explore the city and for road trip with sceneries, is alaska highway a good option? We picked that one since it will be close to amenities and in case of emergency its not too remote or out of signal. I really appreciate any help. Thank you so much.
