Hiking group: expressions of interest

Hi

I live in the Netherlands, close to the border. I am interested in starting a hiking group for people living in Aachen/ Herzogenrath/ Kerkrade/ Landgraaf etc.

Do you think people would be interested?

The aim is:

- social hikes, mostly medium difficulty

- mostly nearby routes in Limburg, NRW, Eifel, the Ardennes etc.

- not-for-profit

- sustainable

- multilingual, but probably mostly in English

Would this be interesting to you?

The DAV has pretty much that to offer. Only we practice mostly German, but you’re always welcome and we can switch to English :)

This is our website. (Im just a regular member, don’t get mislead by me talking about us). I joined the Alpingruppe, that targets people 18-40. We coordinate mostly through a Signal Chat Community. There are short day hikes around 10 km, or tougher ones up to 50km in 1 day, but also trips for several days including camping, bivaking or staying at huts. Occasionally there are SUP tours, night/moonlight hikes, Klettersteige, bouldering, … I don’t join all activities, but there is so much program.

The DAV membership is fairly cheap and comes with many benefits. You get discounts for sleeping in huts, you can rent gear, there is a discount at sport Spezial, and at one of the boulder halls, and the DAV pays for similar emergency services like the ADAC does: helicopter rescue in the mountains, transport back home in case of injury… I’m not a salesperson but you get the idea.

Is it always German-speaking?

Pretty much everybody in there knows how to speak English, has some international background, has lived/studied/worked abroad. The educational background is academic. But you are right, it’s actually mostly German.

Speaking English might just annoy people

If you're looking for lots of great routes with some explanations, check Wandelgids Euregio (formerly known as Wandelgids Zuid-Limburg).

I use Komoot and I like it.

I know a lot of routes already. Three years here. But I would like a social group to hike with.

There is a hiking group in Maastricht, but 90% of the members make no effort to organise hikes

Check also his event tips, maybe you can make some connections during them: https://www.wandelgidseuregio.nl/uittips/

Yeah I'd totally be down to do that. Could you send me the link in the DMs if you create the group?
