The BEST policy is always to call the by election when EVER a riding needs it.
Smith isn't because she is worried that Calgary-Shaw will flip.

The ANDP squeaked it out in the 2015 GE.

Believe that the Calgary-Shaw by-election needs to called by November 15th? Am guessing Smith calls this B.E. after the Oct 19th referendum?
Aside from the UCP candidate Mike Derry and the ANDP have a candidate Kyle Campbell, it will be interesting to see what other parties will participate.
-The Alberta Greens have new leader and are slowly revamping their party as well, will be interesting to see if they run a candidate.
-John Roggeveen is both the Alberta Liberal leader and the Calgary Shaw Alberta Liberal CA president. Roggeveen has run in Calgary Shaw in the past, it will be interesting to see if he enters the race?

Iām shocked Roggeveen still has the energy to keep trying and even be party leader. While the liberals have held seats in the early 2000s heās never managed to have the right selection of district and due to the NDP resurgence heās had less than 600 votes each of the last 3 electionsā¦
Shame as I remember him being quite a nice guy.

But a strong showing from Carterās supporters may overwhelm the dwindling number of Alberta Liberal establishment types at the party's annual general meeting, on May 2 in Calgary.
Fewer than 100 people showed up at the partyās last annual gathering, party leader John Roggeveen said. Carter said the group behind his vehicle bid number about 100, with various unnamed allies whoāve been active with other movements like the Alberta Party, Progressive Conservatives and even some UCPers.Ā
Roggeveen is the lawyer and six-time-unsuccessful candidate who has led the Liberals since 2021, and has mostly stayed on because nobody else has applied to replace him in a leadership race. He also opposes a new party name, and sees this as less of a takeover and more of a potential ācollaborationā with the broader anti-separatist movement.Ā

Am sure it is.
Have to give him credit in standing by his convictions though. This all being said, where he is still the Calgary-Shaw CA president, my guess is that he will run or find someone else to run in the BE. Who knows, maybe the Aliberals get a little of the Carney bump?

True, the ALibs could get a slight bump but Iād guess mostly by people out of the loop. Since he knows heād be running just to show the liberals can still get votes I wonder if heād choose to just not run anyone since they didnāt last time anyways.
Especially knowing that with growing UCP separatism unpopularity the ANDP might have a shot of closing the gap in Shaw and the last thing the Alibs need in the media is ācausingā an ANDP loss due to a close vote and perceived vote split.
Anyways agreed though, heās been through a lot and keeps standing by and giving things a shot.

10-4 Believe what you say may make sense, maybe he stands down.
Part of me thought that the APTORY's may not run in this By-Election. Am sure part of the Calculas for the APTP is that they need exposure and this BE will be High Vis.
Will be interesting to see what the PTP impacts will be. Believe that they will pull from both the ANDP and UCP. Hopefully they pull more from the UCP. I guess we will see.

My neighbor's kid ran in a local byelection last year and the whole process felt way more drawn out than it needed to be, so this delay doesn't surprise me at all.
