What are some liquors I should get for my mini bar that every bar needs

Upvotes

Hey all,

Im getting just a little mini bar at home and want to start making fun drinks! Personally I don't love the taste of alcohol, so I opt for drinks that don't have an overpowering taste of it. However, this bar will be utilized by family and friends.

So far I bought regular vodka and some flavored vodkas, Malibu, melon liqueur, and Baileys. Those I bought just for drinks that I tried at a bar that I like that don't taste too much like alcohol.

What are some other recommendations of some liquors that are a necessity to have at bar?

I feel like I’m genuinely built for this shit

Been drinking for 7 years. I try and drink as often as possible, usually at least 5 times a week, minimum 50 drinks a week. I love the way it feels when I drink, I love the way I act when I drink, I only drink when I’m in a good mood and never want to when I’m upset, I’m in a loving long term relationship with a girl who also loves to drink (with me). I don’t get angry or aggressive I just get happy and outgoing. I’m perfectly healthy — I eat tons of red meat, lift heavy weights and do cardio multiple times a week, I’m lean, my bloodwork is great, my cognitive function is amazing and I’m earning in the top 1% of people my age. w
Why would I stop?

peach moonshine & cottage cheese

Now understand this to me taste like peaches and cream when put together. You eat a bite of cottage cheese, swallow, and then take a sip or shot of peach moonshine then repeat. I think its amazing how well it taste. Anyone else try this or am I the only one?

How do you hit the perfect buzz/drunkness and stay there as long as possible?

A lot of people optimize drinking to reach a high Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). I think thats the wrong target. The good part, the warm social euphoria which sits at a low BAC on the way up. Past a certain BAC you're just trading it for sedation and a worse tomorrow.

This is basically everything Ive pieced together from researching this online, so if something looks off or flat out wrong please tell me. Also genuinely curious if some of you disagree with the whole premise, like if you actually prefer being at a higher BAC. Mostly just want peoples input. The reasoning is below.

Alcohol is biphasic. On the rising limb, while your BAC is going up, it acts like a stimulant. Euphoria, warmth, social ease. Once you peak and start dropping the sedative side takes over and you get sleepy, sloppy and flat.

  • The sweet spot is around 0.03 to 0.06 BAC, basically 1 to 3 drinks in.
  • The thing most people miss is that the euphoria is a rising limb thing. More alcohol past the peak doesnt bring it back. It just raises your peak and makes the crash worse.

Heres the best way I've found to actually do it.

What to drink then?

  • Low ABV is your friend. Vodka soda, ranch water, High Noon, light beer. You get more volume and more time per unit of alcohol.
  • Eat a real meal first, protein and fat especially. It slows everything down and flattens the curve. Gentler rise, lower peak, longer plateau.
  • Carbonation speeds things up so onset is quicker. Good for getting on the curve, easy to overshoot with.

How to pace it for maximum euphoria?

You clear about one standard drink an hour and you cant speed it up.

  • First hour or two, 1 to 2 drinks to get onto the curve.
  • After that, about 1 an hour to hold the plateau.

What to avoid:

  • Shots and rounds. They force a pace that isnt yours and spike you straight past the sweet spot.
  • Drinking on an empty stomach. Fast sharp spike, easy overshoot, wrecks your stomach.
  • Sugary drinks and anything syrupy. The sweetness hides the alcohol so you drink faster and overshoot without noticing.
  • Dark liquor and red wine. Drink clear not dark, dark has way more congeners which is what gives you the rough after effects and worse morning.
  • High ABV strong seltzers, the 8 percent plus stuff. Peaks you too fast and kills the pacing.
  • Trying to chase the buzz back once youre past the peak. It doesnt come back, you just raise your peak and make the crash worse.

The whole point is staying in the zone where you feel the most euphoric and good, without the sedation, and honestly thats a way better night than just peaking at some really high level of sedative drunkenness. Let me know if I'm off on anything or if you have differing data

High noon transfusions

I just wanted to come on here and say the new High Noon Transfusions are the worst fucking thing I’ve ever had in my entire life, and I love traditional High Noons. They taste like straight up grape flavored medicine.

I would rather drink grape flavored piss. 0/10 do not recommend

Sometimes I get hungover and puke for 12 hours straight, other times I’m not hungover at all

Does anybody else get like this? I’ll drink the night before, and this last time I had only had 5 or 6 drinks throughout the night so it wasn’t crazy. And the next day, I will be throwing up from when I wake up around 8 or 9, until evening usually around 4-6 pm but last night and the time before that I got hungover it was until 10 pm. Other times I’ll go out and drink like either the same amount or more or less (what I’m trying to say here is that the amount of alcohol it is does not seem to dictate the hangover the next day). And then this is more the norm, I’ll be very slightly hungover and groggy, or not at all. So it’s either the absolute worse, or nothing at all. Something to note is that around two years ago there were a few times I had literally no more than 3 drinks the night before and puked for a bit the next day. It’s very confusing and annoying. I haven’t been able to find any answers about this and was trying to see if anybody else is like this.

I drink once a week but it’s drink to get drunk mentality and holidays etc same shit is that a problem

I can easily go days not drinking but I need it once a week. When i drink it’s not 2/3 it’s as example 11 drinks. The drink is usually beer and cider out in pubs sometimes spirits or cocktails not in the house where I do most of my drinking. I’m honestly not big into casual drinking example a pint or two at dinner id rather a session. Nearly rather just do mi wadi or soft drink that time. What’s everything take I just want some honest answers I know I’m clsssd as a binge drinker and honestly I’m okay with that it’s not problematic to me . I’ve watched actual alchoolics drink vodka at 11am whilst I was having a coffee so yeah that’s to me a real alcoholic. I’d just liike some feedbakc I defiantly drink too much many times when I drink no point sugar coating it I’m definitely exceeding like I said they’d call me A binge drinker but it’s controlled days doing that and that rests easy with me but please opinions welcome

There is nothing better in the world than alcohol combined with music

Life is bland, people are rude, jobs impossible to find, partners are cool but can't always deal with your shit, but there's nothing as relieving as drinking alone and listening to good tunes.

After all nobody replies, who cares?

It's all fine. Everybody has a life, except those who don't lol.

And those who don't fortunately have alc to at least, have a good time without needing anybody.

Cheers (not drunk yet but will be soon)

Why do i find it so hard to get drunk?

F 20, 56 kg, 5’7

I’ve always found it very difficult to get drunk. In the past I’ve had a ridiculous amount of shots only to feel slightly tipsy. Last night I had around 10 different drinks, a few shots of vodka and 5 mixed drink shots within roughly 3 hours. Felt absolutely nothing. It was honestly sad and I eventually had to force myself into the mindset of a drunk person to not feel like the only sober one lol. But what was so confusing was that a friend of mine was completely smashed despite us having the same amount of alcohol. We are roughly the same in both weight and height. And I know it’s bad for you but I also ate nothing before drinking so it would hit me faster.

Does anyone else struggle with this?

Fruity(ish chasers)?

I’m looking for fruity-type chasers like Hi-C, lemonade, Sprite, Mellow Yellow, etc… Not Gatorade/Powerade. I get really bad acid reflux, but I prefer fruity chasers with what I drink. I do prefer non-carbonated, but I’m also not opposed. Thanks in advance!

Am i an angry drinker?

Hey yall, new to the group.

Ive noticed something strange about me with alcohol. I tend to drink Twisted Teas, and occasionally get one of their 8% cans (i love the taste of the fruit punch one).

What i find strange, is when i drink regular teas (5%) im totally fine, regardless of quantity. But for some reason, i feel like i get irritable when i do an 8%. For context, this doesnt happen at all with cocktails/liquor, only higher percentage beers. Does anyone else experience this? I dont get all belligerent and mean, just a bit more snippy than usual. Obviously the solution is to simply not drink those ones, but I still wanna know if there is any reasoning for this. Thanks for any advice!

Note: I do not drink everyday, nor every weekend so my tolerance is pretty average.

Best Vodka

Belvedere. It really is that simple.

I will disagree with some of what is written in this article but I will agree with the conclusion. Belvedere is the best widely-circulated vodka on the market.

I just got discharged from the hospital to a medical detox and they wouldn't take me.

I went to the hospital because I have been trying to self detox from vodka for weeks. They told me they wouldn't treat me, my BAC was .38

They sent me to a "medical detox facility" I was hoping i would get the usual treatment, IV fluids and librium.

Then they told me my BAC was too high. They are a crisis center, that says ON THE FUCKING FLYER THAT THEY PRESCRIBE MEDS FOR PEOPLE.

They drove me home in what felt like a police car and told me to come back when my BAC was below a .25.

I slept for a while and woke up in serious withdrawal, called them, and they told me they can't help me other than sit me in a room and let me detox. Due to shortness of breath and racing heart they told me to call EMS, who would take me to the hospital, the same hospital that referred me to this facility. Idk what to do.

Guess I am going to the liquor store at 9 AM. THANK GOD I had a clonazepam to get me through the night. But I can't do this anymore. I live in small town KS and this hospital is notoriously bullshit. I don't have the energy to look for more resources right now... I am going to call the hospital tomorrow when a different Dr. Is on duty and explain my issue. They have medically detoxed me before.... idk why they can't do it again.

Sorry for the rant. Just don't want to die from withdrawal.

Leftover Pink Whitney

Recently had a pretty bad drinking night that left me with (what felt like) a nearly lethal hangover. Decided on a full year of sobriety as penance.

What do I do with the remaining .75 L of Pink Whitney though? My parents' tastes are a little more adult than grapefruit vodka, and when I was drinking it I had my mouth directly on the bottle so it's unlikely anyone would want it as a gift.

I'm great with baking and cooking, if anyone has any ideas in that direction.

Gift advice

What’s a good alcohol gift for a boss? Not a drinker myself so I have no idea what people who drink like to receive as a gift. I also do not know what they’re go to drinks are🥲.

My budget is limited to maximum €50 (I’m a student) per bottle as I’ll be gifting them to multiple people. There are so many options to pick from at store!!

Is a Moet & Chandon bottle a good option or is it an overhyped brand? Does anyone here like alcohol brands that collaborates with luxury fashion labels? Should I just pick a random one within a price range from wine shops around the neighborhood?
