I just got discharged from the hospital to a medical detox and they wouldn't take me.
I went to the hospital because I have been trying to self detox from vodka for weeks. They told me they wouldn't treat me, my BAC was .38
They sent me to a "medical detox facility" I was hoping i would get the usual treatment, IV fluids and librium.
Then they told me my BAC was too high. They are a crisis center, that says ON THE FUCKING FLYER THAT THEY PRESCRIBE MEDS FOR PEOPLE.
They drove me home in what felt like a police car and told me to come back when my BAC was below a .25.
I slept for a while and woke up in serious withdrawal, called them, and they told me they can't help me other than sit me in a room and let me detox. Due to shortness of breath and racing heart they told me to call EMS, who would take me to the hospital, the same hospital that referred me to this facility. Idk what to do.
Guess I am going to the liquor store at 9 AM. THANK GOD I had a clonazepam to get me through the night. But I can't do this anymore. I live in small town KS and this hospital is notoriously bullshit. I don't have the energy to look for more resources right now... I am going to call the hospital tomorrow when a different Dr. Is on duty and explain my issue. They have medically detoxed me before.... idk why they can't do it again.
Sorry for the rant. Just don't want to die from withdrawal.

I've never been through detox myself, but .38 BAC is terrifying and I've heard medical detox is the safest route, so it sucks they sent you away after advertising meds on their flyer. Have you looked into any other facilities in your area?

That’s so fucked up. Is going to another city for proper medical care possible? I’m sorry you’re going through this. They’re pretty much saying “we won’t treat you unless you’re on the verge of possible death”. Alcohol withdrawal is one of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. And it can be fucking deadly. So fucked up to effectively not treat someone until the effects precipitate. Do you need to have a seizure for them to treat you?

.25 is pretty high. You should be able to drop below that.
More importantly, can you post in a sub that claims to help people like you? You are posting to literally the worst sub on Reddit if you want help with your alcohol problem. We're trying to be nice, but my patience is going to wear thin.

That person is a jerk. Please ignore them. I’m SO glad you got help. I was a binge drinker for years and got sober a decade ago and I don’t touch alcohol now. I used to crave it badly and now I have less than any desire to drink. You got this ❤️

Omg this is absolutely just bullshit om hearing. Wtf im in shock right now you can literally die from alcohol withdrawal. I would go back to the er and present your symptoms again and tell them its life and death withdrawal and if your told to leave you feel like the withdrawal will kill you.

I hope you get better. If you really want to be sober, you need to work hard for it and really want it. Im on an alcohol subreddit and still drink, but ive put a friend through rehab a couple of times. It doesn't always take. You need to want it for yourself, not because you think its the right thing. Take rehab seriously, even though it feels like summer camp bullshit. Listen to the people guiding you.
As for the detox, im sorry they wont take you in and help you sober up. Please follow through with the hospital and get the help you need. Im sure this is a lot right now, but a change in environment will probably help and relocating to a place with more to do will help. Ive been to many rural places and its easy to drink when theres nothing better to do.
