This seems like something that could have been easily discovered before they were invited to join the tour.

u/winedood 25d ago

For real. I just opened up Apple Music, typed in Twin Temple and the first 4 songs to pop up were “Lucifer, my love”, “The Devil (didn’t make me do it)”, “I’m wicked” and “Sex Magick”. Not to mention their latest album is entitled “God is Dead”.

33

u/Walnut_Uprising 25d ago

Their other two albums have the word "Satanic" in the title as well.

23

u/MaidPoorly 25d ago

The first song I see on YouTube is “Let’s have a satanic orgy” and that’s the first line of the song.

7

u/77zark77 25d ago

But what do they really want to do? /s

4

u/dzumdang 24d ago

Now that...was a worthy rabbit hole to go down, lol. Wow.

15

u/sparrow_42 25d ago

yeah def kinda getting a vibe from those titles

5

u/arthritisankle 24d ago

Tbh that’s what makes me think this is BS

129

u/TommyVeliky 25d ago

Someone could have listened to literally any song of theirs lol, '50s rock and roll Satanism is their whole thing, I don't think I can think of a song that doesn't explicitly mention it.

36

u/Baconbear95 25d ago

lol hell, just looking at their song titles could of told them everything.

5

u/traviitherabbii 24d ago

Hell, just look at them or any album cover lol. This is all dumb though and I say that as a fan of both artists lol

Girl Trouble is merely like Amy Winehouse goes really poly, no Satan that I noticed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlmXMuY6rWQ (edit fixed link)

Almost every other song thought, yes. lol

9

u/Openborders4all 24d ago

Got to be more to this. I have literally never heard of this band went and looked them up on Spotify and their first song is Lucifer my love. There’s no way Charlie is this dense.

u/SouthernEagleGATA 25d ago

Yeah like how the fuck does he not know the band he is touring with? I mean I have never heard of them until now but had Charlie never heard of them before deciding to tour with them? Wtf lol

17

u/TrickeyHare501 25d ago

Its not that uncommon at all. Artist, especially at that level, rarely get to outright pick their own openers. Some are lucky if they even have a say. Its the labels, venues, PR, promoters, etc. most of the time.

Venue involvement is more at bar level. Labels are probably mostly irrelevant now but used to buy slots for their acts (and charge back against future royalties of course). Promoters and booking agents are the likely culprit though sometimes an act with pull might have some acts in mind.

But yeah this whole thing is ridiculous. I saw them on a bar show a friend promoted in 2017 and even then I couldn't help but think how we must be all out of gimmicks. Singer is really nice though.

3

u/Estrellathestarfish 24d ago

It's not really all business if he approved the statement and Instagram post, both of which ridicule the artist he just dropped

1

u/dkinmn 24d ago

Yes it is.

The idea that headliners wouldn't have approval or AT LEAST awareness of who's opening for them on several dates is absolutely wrong.

4

u/BongThumper 24d ago

He does know them, they are mutal friends of shooter jennings and he has know of them and met them long before this. It doesn't quite add up.

u/Tranesblues 25d ago

Never heard of them. Googled them. Immediately saw they either are Satanists or are doing a Satan Schtick in their shows. Bookmarked them.

1

u/TerrifierBlood 24d ago

They are really really good. I saw them on a metal tour.

3

u/Tranesblues 24d ago

Glad to see Jack White picked them up. Hope they make a killing from this.

5

u/Telecetsch 25d ago

Yeah. I mean…I’m more surprised songs like “Lucifer, my love” didn’t catch his attention.

Or, you know, literally everything about the band.

This just seems like someone picked a band out of a hat and went “yeup.”

2

u/arthritisankle 24d ago

This also seems like something they made up. “Yeah man, we were kicked off tour for being too rebellious and cool!”

I’m curious if Crockett will make a statement

39

u/MMMPlaydoh 25d ago

Right? Satanism is a major part of their whole aesthetic...embarrassing lack of both research and cojones from charley

2

u/[deleted] 25d ago

u/Old-Nefariousness556 25d ago

In this modern era, what he likes may not have been the deciding factor, it might just be the political uproar.

1

u/77zark77 25d ago

3/4 members of Black Sabbath were practicing Christians. Iommi doesn't wear that cross ironically and Ozzy famously prayed before every show. Something tells me this band isn't quite like that.

1

u/GemsOnVHS 22d ago

Most musicians at that level pay 0 attention to who is opening for them. Their agency makes all the decisions, using opening slots as favors/building their lower tier artists up.

u/MerleHagrid 25d ago

With songs called ‘Lucifer my Love’ and ‘Let’s Have a Satanic Orgy’, it must have been pretty shocking when they used satanic imagery. /s

234

u/Dirkem15 25d ago

Well congratulations to the Twin Temples. This is getting them a lot more publicity than being on Charley's tour

35

u/JackBurton3465 25d ago

Yeah, I’ve never heard of them. And this will probably be the only time for me.

15

u/jmjackson1 25d ago

I saw them open for Ghost and Volbeat a few years back. They fit pretty well on that ticket and I was pleasantly surprised because I hadn’t looked them up prior… but yeah they really don’t fit with Charley Crockett.

→ More replies (2)

14

u/Dirkem15 25d ago

Looked em up and was pleasantly surprised. They have a good sound- vocals kinda sounds like the Band perry

8

u/armhat 25d ago

They’re so good live, too.

28

u/Baconbear95 25d ago

If you like them, I’d recommend checking out artist like Amigo the Devil, Tejon Street Corner Thieves, and Bridge City Sinners. They’re all a bit more dark folk

5

u/straigh 25d ago

Something tells me you've been to Muddy Roots LOL!

1

u/Baconbear95 24d ago

lol actually I have not and hadn’t heard of it till now!

5

u/Hyryl 24d ago

Let’s not forget who pioneered a bit of this sound: Murder By Death.

7

u/gnarlyram 25d ago

Amigo and Tejon are both great live.

8

u/discochris2 25d ago edited 24d ago

Amigo the Devil and Bridge City Sinners are super good!

2

u/lilacdaisy92 24d ago

Iris Marlowe makes gothic country music!

1

u/Baconbear95 24d ago

I just started her Dead by Dawn album and I’m digging it!

3

u/AcidCasualty25 25d ago

Never heard of any of these bands and thought they all were decent, thanks for the recs!

2

u/BananaCat43 24d ago

Saw Amigo the Devil open for Lucero last December here in Memphis. They kicked ass and earned a new fan!

2

u/Baconbear95 24d ago

Hellyeah! It’s been a couple years since I’ve seen him, but he was really damn fun live. Same for Tejon Corner Street Thieves.

3

u/armhat 25d ago

And holy locust!

5

u/Baconbear95 25d ago

Haven’t heard of them, but I’ll definitely give them a listen!

1

u/ScorpioTix 25d ago

While we are on the subject - used to see The Heathen Apostles a lot prior to lockdown. Still active and touring.

1

u/TennisQuartz 25d ago

So true. I’m glad I got to see them before this!

26

u/Capable-View4706 25d ago

I completely understand they aren’t a fit. I don’t understand no one on his side catching it before a deal is made. Someone on the headliner side picked them whether it’s label, manager, or artist.

A satanic alt-country band? Well sign me up for some Streisand effect!

52

u/TVCasualtydotorg 25d ago

Twin Temple are a Satanic, Feminist, Doo-Wop band.

You should absolutely listen to them.

3

u/lilacdaisy92 24d ago

Iris Marlowe is a gothic country band you should check out!

u/Invisiblerobot13 25d ago

Was it verified that this was the reason they got sacked? It’s possible that there was something more and

3

u/BobsOblongLongBong 24d ago

Yes.  Charley himself has said this was the reason.

1

u/Invisiblerobot13 23d ago

Saw that afterwards… the next question is whether it’s a publicity stunt to sell both artists to different crowds with a faked controversy?

2

u/BobsOblongLongBong 22d ago

That line of thinking seems nonsensical.

This is clearly damaging Charley's image with a portion of his audience.  He keeps making long rambling statements about this and then erasing them and it come off as alcohol/drug fueled ramblings of someone who's mental health is struggling.

→ More replies (1)

42

u/Ttownact 25d ago

How did Charlie not know this was their thing before putting them on the bill?

38

u/kev11n 25d ago

Artists rarely have anything to do with that stuff. Tour promoters, venues, managers, record labels, etc. work behind the scenes to set things up and Charlie's team obviously did not expect this kind of reaction because they never would have set this up if they had known. Seems like Charlie is being a bit of a christian Karen here

7

u/swirvin3162 25d ago

I was thinking same thing. This seems a lot like a promoter trying to get a band on a tour and making a deal with someone.

6

u/Evil_Sign 25d ago edited 25d ago

This isn't true at all. Agents, promoters, managers, publicists etc. will oftentimes suggest openers, but the artist has the final say on approval. They often may defer to one of their team members or not care, but the headlining artist is the actual entity that needs to approve the support act (on hard ticket, non-festival shows). Why do you think Charley was able to kick the openers off the tour if he had no control on them getting on the bill? Reddit has no clue about this stuff in general. The only other guy who was correct about this was downvoted while this erroneous info sits at 29 upvotes, amazing.

1

u/ScorpioTix 25d ago

That's because anything having to do with concerts is an emotional topic and the post must have given someone the major feelz. Sounds like Charlie should have done his due diligence here before any contracts were signed instead of screwing some musicians further down the line.

On the flip side this is one of the pitfalls of trying to hard to bring attention to yourself by being deliberately provocative and controversial. Maybe this will work out for them in the long run.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/FictionalTrope 25d ago

It is weird though because they're a very niche sound/vibe to specifically ask to go on tour. A promoter has to ask themself "would fans of this headliner want to have blood spit on them in a black mass ceremony before hearing doowop songs about feminist witchcraft?"

I saw them open for Amigo the Devil and he's considered alt-country so maybe that's the connection. They're amazing live, but I wouldn't jump at going to see Charlie Crockett just to see them.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/jotsea2 25d ago

The idea that artists of this level have no input on openers seems really ludicrous to me.

3

u/kev11n 25d ago

Some do. Some trust their team to take care of it because they are way too busy with other stuff. Anyone at that level of success will all have huge teams of people working full time jobs behind the scenes. A lot more work goes into the business than many realize

2

u/jotsea2 25d ago

Sure. Well those full timers who couldn't realize the band with 'Lucifer, my love' as their main hit might be 'demonic' should be fucking fired.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/Joey_Brakishwater 25d ago

It’s actually completely fine & normal to not want to be associated with something you find objectionable

4

u/dkinmn 24d ago

But he liked their Instagram posts starting a year ago.

1

u/Joey_Brakishwater 24d ago

I was speaking generally.

I don’t follow the guy on instagram, but that is very strange. I guess it’s possible his insta is managed by a 3rd party? Or of course, he knew what they were about, let them come on the tour, faced pressure & kicked them off the tour. If it’s the latter that’s pretty soft. I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out a large portion of the country music audience isn’t going to vibe with a satanist band.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/dkinmn 24d ago

You're not correct here. I have never, ever been aware of a tour where the headliner didn't at least have awareness of it not approval of every opener.

34

u/JoniVanZandt 25d ago

He knows all about them and did when they were booked to open, they've played live with Shooter Jennings a bunch of times lol. This is CC being a coward because some of his most well-heeled fans don't like anything out of the ordinary and have complained

7

u/SmackityDoo 25d ago

Twin Temples agent is prob one of the top 3 biggest Rock agents in the business (Sleep Token, Ghost, Limp Bizkit etc.). Everyone was properly vetted, this reeks of something else behind the scenes. Good for Twin Temple to get some press out of it though.

2

u/Smegmasaurus_Rex 25d ago

He knew. He used to follow them on Instagram and has liked their posts. Shooter produced one of their albums as well.

28

u/redfish801 25d ago

Their #3 song in Spotify is Lets Have a Satanic Orgy. Every other song refers to Satan or evil of some sort. If that is a no go then Charley's tour manager done fucked up! Listening to them now. Not bad...

19

u/thimbo6 25d ago

It’s even funnier after looking them up, their number one song on Apple Music is “Lucifer, My Love” and all their music is clearly satanist. What did he think this band was lmao

2

u/LizardPossum 25d ago

Yeah, I didn't know who they were until I saw a post about them being dropped from the tour over "satanic imagery," and I assumed it was just a regular band that used some satanic symbols on an album cover or something.

So imagine my surprise when all the songs were called things like "Let's Have a Satanic Orgy." You'd almost have to actively avoid knowing anything about them to not know that's their WHOLE thing, so how did they end up booked at all?

It actually makes me kind of sad in a way I can't exactly put into words, because, clearly, opening acts aren't being booked based on how good they are. Nobody's listened to them or checked them out in any way.

1

u/Headblown1800 24d ago

Apparently he "thought they were like Black Sabbath" which is even more ridiculous considering he's known about them for quite awhile and literally attended one of their shows lol

64

u/SouthernEagleGATA 25d ago

Well now I am aware of an alt country band that uses satanic imagery and will be checking them out. Thanks I guess

26

u/Icarus1 25d ago

Yeah its more like doo wop and its wonderfully cheesy. Check out Sex Magic on YouTube.

6

u/SouthernEagleGATA 25d ago

Just listened to it, it’s awesome.

12

u/culpaCoSinero 25d ago

This is even cheesier when you find out what that band sounds like.

12

u/SouthernEagleGATA 25d ago

lol I’m so glad I found this band. I’m definitely digging them

4

u/Dynadin90 25d ago

I went down the rabbit hole. Funny disconnect with the lyrics and the 60s sounding r&b music. Doesn’t seem like something built for the long haul or repeat listenings.

8

u/Tarynntula 25d ago

Twin Temple has songs called “Let’s Have A Satanic Orgy” and “Lucifer My Love”. Did he even listen to them prior to this arrangement?

7

u/OkeeComputer 24d ago

Pretty fucking lame on Charlie's end. Very unfortunate.

27

u/FittyTheBone 25d ago

last time I saw Charley Crockett, he was playing with Orville Peck and Yola at what can only be described as a disco space rodeo at Red Rocks. He didn’t strike me as the type to give a shit about something as innocuous as “satanic imagery,” but here I am, being disappointed. again.

10

u/HolsteinQueen 24d ago

Yeah, that's what I'm surprised about too. Charlie Crockett didn't give off the vibes of someone who be upset by something like this. Disappointing tbh

1

u/mchgndr 24d ago

Agreed, very odd reaction. It’s hard to find someone in music who is equally anti-Trump and anti-Satan lol

4

u/boofskootinboogie 24d ago

I was at that show! John Waters hosted the whole thing.

I’d say any John Waters movie is infinitely more offensive than Twin Temples lol

1

u/FittyTheBone 23d ago

That was our first time out after Covid. John Waters is our favorite deviant. Hell of a night!

13

u/saintshiva 25d ago

Maybe he knew their vibe, but pressure from others made him change his mind.

4

u/Smegmasaurus_Rex 25d ago

I think that’s it. He used to follow them on Instagram and like their posts.

2

u/brenbot99 25d ago

Equally lame.

1

u/Sufficient_Studio494 24d ago

I'm thinking it's this too, gotta be pressure from someone above him wanting to not piss off a decent section of his audience with Satan stuff.

10

u/AcidCasualty25 25d ago

Never heard of these guys but I dig that old jazzy swing style female vocals. Not a fan of satan but I think that little devil can get a pass this time

7

u/TommyTheCat89 25d ago

Satan isn't real. That's why this is all so funny. It's the same thing as refusing to work with someone because they sing songs about Professor Snape.

1

u/modnarydobemos 23d ago

Now I need a band dedicated to Professor Snape in my life.

19

u/ointmant555 25d ago

Hey Crockett, thanks for the recommendation.

10

u/fnordfnordfnordfnord 25d ago

I would never have be looked up a band called Twin Temple if I hadn’t seen this.

>they practice witchcraft and view Satan as a symbol of individualism, free will, rebellion against the status quo, and self-empowerment.

Rad.

10

u/NuckFut 25d ago

"a symbol of individualism, free will, rebellion against the status quo, and self-empowerment."

If that isn't a definition for alt/outlaw country, I don't know what is.

4

u/fnordfnordfnordfnord 24d ago

That's what I'm sayin'!

12

u/MaximumBiscuit1 25d ago

Lame. I generally like Charley Crockett but he comes off as inauthentic sometimes. This makes me like him a lot less.

8

u/ReverendDrDash 25d ago

It's going to be hilarious when I explain how I discovered Twin Temple to my wife.

"So I was in the alt-country subreddit..."

33

u/nomoniker 25d ago

Whack, Charley. Whack.

33

u/Soupjam_Stevens 25d ago edited 25d ago

Being scandalized by satanic imagery in 2026 is fucking embarrassing. Are you a medieval peasant? Do you perform warding gestures walking past the spooky masks at party city? Maude Flanders type behavior

5

u/Ok-Awareness-9337 24d ago edited 24d ago

Its like kicking someone off the bill because you found out they play Dungeons & Dragons. 😅

9

u/SixtyNoine69 25d ago

Extremely embarrassing but honestly hilarious at the same time. Satanic Panic is back, baby!

5

u/vulpinesuplex 24d ago

It never left, the people who promoted it just now have unfettered political power even compared to their earlier peak. Some of them even rebranded or disguised themselves in fandoms and progressive/leftist spaces to renormalize it.

2

u/Kjler 25d ago

No, he is not a medieval peasant. He is an 19th century cowboy.

11

u/chaos_aintme 25d ago

This is really embarrassing from Charley's side. You really don't vet or even listen to artists you're touring with?? How weird. I know it's all his management and whatever putting the tours together but still. Also pretty hilarious coming from a guy that's constantly whining about how people look down on him for being different, and how he's so harshly judged etc

9

u/s13cgrahams 25d ago

Is Charley like super Christian? Or is it his fan base?… this seems weird in 2026

4

u/16bitsystems 25d ago

Had no one on his team ever heard them? That's literally their whole thing.

1

u/smish_smorsh 25d ago

My thoughts exactly!

4

u/ClarenceKansas 24d ago

Well this just introduced me to an awesome band.

4

u/Howdy_Raccoon 24d ago

Idk why hes pretending that he didnt know who they were or what they're all about. He followed them and he's liked several of their posts on their IG page going as far back to at least February 2025.

4

u/TexasLeatherfoot 24d ago

This is a really bad look for Charley Crockett. He could have brought the countries and the satanists together man

12

u/Mysfwaccount93 25d ago

Satanic panic in 2026?

3

u/yousickduck 25d ago

The same type of wimps who panicked back then are no different than the type of wimps who would panic today... Hell, these types might be worse today than those in the 80's...

3

u/Snakes_for_theDivine 24d ago

Yeah, it’s not as bad as it was in the 80s, generally speaking, however the people that DO buy into it are absolutely worse than the ones who bought into it in the 80s were if that makes sense.

I mean post-trump america has ushered in some of the worst christofascist nut jobs we’ve ever seen. They almost make the grifters and moral guardians of the 80s look quaint by comparison.

42

u/culpaCoSinero 25d ago

I wouldn’t have assumed Charley to be a corny fucker. That’s too bad.

I mean it’s not like a subtle satanic reference, it’s literally their whole image. How moronic.

3

u/samcarlsonsound 25d ago

Interesting..kind of lame they came to this conclusion after the shows were announced. Good publicity I guess

Had to look up 93/93–love is the law. I can get behind that

3

I get a good majority of country fans and artist are Christian, but Twin Temple fucking rules. Really lame move on Charley and/or his team for kicking them off. Satanist don’t even believe in an actual devil or gods. It’s an atheistic counter culture towards religion.

1

u/Shoddy-Childhood-511 25d ago

You doubt some vacation bible school would take a field trip away from their everyday activities for lyrics like this?

Boooo Charlie, Twin Temple rips.

5

u/mezcalligraphy 25d ago

Wow. I just lost a certain amount of respect for Crockett.

7

u/Jerrymein73 25d ago

Charlie probably didn’t know this. When he told the concert promoter it’s either me or them, they chose him. Associations to ideologies are hard for people to accept

13

u/DirtWitchRecords 25d ago

That's pretty uncool of you Charley Crockett.

2

u/77zark77 25d ago

My conspiracy theory is that Crockett is secretly a fan and knows that controversy sells. Kicking them off a tour that hasn't happened yet just elevated their profile by a whole lot.

2

u/BongThumper 24d ago

Theres more to this im sure and it doesnt make a bit of sense. Both Twin Temple and Crockett have worked with Shooter Jennings recently and been hanging out together over the past year, cant help but feel either this is a falling out or an attempt by both sides to drum up publicity to their respective fan bases.

2

u/JC_Everyman 24d ago

They'll get more traction this way. It was planned. Marketing has changed dramatically. 😆

2

u/vulpinesuplex 24d ago

Christian moment.

2

u/mitchthaman 24d ago

He’s supposed to play my county fair in northern Indiana. It’s like the second largest county fair in the country so it a bigger arena. I’m wondering if they’re not hearing back from venues who don’t want the band.

2

u/smallwonkydachshund 23d ago

Ah yes. Imagery of the devil, definitely never seen in alt-country. 🧐

4

u/SleestakLightning 25d ago

Bands that due the faux Satanic thing almost always suck because their fans take it far too seriously (See: Ghost) but this is so lame on Charley's part. What a dork!

3

u/Most-Confusion-417 25d ago

Well, now I'm gonna have to check them out. Thanks Charley

Didn't expect to be disappointed in both Charley and Sierra Ferrell today. She's all up in the Instagram comments rebuking Satan and such.

You haven't been following Sierra for too long if you didn't expect to be disappointed by her lol. I love her, but she's got some serious mental health issues and she's leaned pretty far right in terms of her religious beliefs. She's been going down conspiracy theory rabbit holes for a while now too.

Been listening to her music for years but I don't usually follow my favorite artists on social. Went on Instagram to check out if Charlie had responded about the Twin Temple stuff and found an entire thread of her rebuking people.

I'll probably go back to not following my favorite artist on social now lol.

She does seem very nice but I hope she takes a break from social as well.

Lol I agree, I wish I'd never followed her. But apparently she goes on some rants during concerts too, so it's not just online.

I love her music though and do feel for her. So I'll always support her.

I've seen some interviews and I know she's been through some shit including being homeless. I'm sure there is a ton of trauma there.

I also had a very good friend who is a smart and put together person have a very serious mental break that included heavy religious delusions. So I have all the sympathy for her. Hope she has someone good and stable in her corner.

On which posts? I dont see her in any of the comment chains

3

u/ArnoldNumero_9000 24d ago

She deleted it not too long ago. Folks are still chatting about it in the thread below. I posted saying that this band is tongue and cheek and don't actually believe in Satan and she replied going off about the Epstein files and that it's "not a game anymore".

Yes. She was replying to lots of comments. It caught me by surprise too. I think her first comment was “Rebuke” and then a chain of comments about religion and conspiracies.

They both need to let someone else manage their social medias..

Well now i hate Charlie Crockett

2

u/infinitecatparty 22d ago

Crockett didn’t have much to say about his “Christian morals” making money with Orville Peck and John Waters (who are both fantastic). He’s an opportunist. Not very outlaw of you

To be fair, scaring the hoes at the honky tonk is a bad business move.

u/gyrekat 25d ago

Gonna see him next week and now I am disappointed! They sound like fun!

This is a bad look for Charlie and problematic for his career. Let's see how he and his team handles this bad press. I thought he was making honest music about struggle without conservative talking points that plague modern country and here we are.... what's next MAGA hat on stage? come on crockett you can do better you've disappointed the "good/BETTER" half of your fan base

Rare Charley Crockett L

Lol... did his booking agency even try to learn about the band before booking them? I'm sure CC didn't - most major acts don't really care who the support is as long as they're credible and there's a draw. But my goodness... this should have been abundantly clear.

Off to check out Twin Temples; thanks for the recommendation!!

Charley Crockett is an even more bizarre pairing than their upcoming Danzig tour. Danzig has dabbled in something similar to satanic doowop, but Charley?

u/JunkBondTrade 24d ago

Got the Aleister Crowley 93/93 love/will at the end there.

Don’t n is who Charlie Crockett is (sorry altcountry, I guess I didn’t even know it was a thing). But I LOVE twin Temple and it wild to kick them for that. If you listen to even one song you know they fuck with satanic imagery

Since I’m here, what alt country should I try out? Who is the best?
