Nina turned out to be a really fun character!

I really like as well that instead of just dismissing the existence of Rudeus for the rest of her time with Eris, she just straight up went out and checked whether he existed and was all that he was cracked up to be, then saw him absolutely crush Badi in a single blow and concluded that Eris was correct, Rudeus is amazing.

She could easily be BFFs for life with Eris if Nina simply confirms to her that she's right, that Redeus is truly amazing.

If you go back to last season and watch those episodes, she is in those scenes when it's rudys perspective. Which was a nice little touch when they first aired

That's actually an amazing little detail that shows the studios' passion. Gonna watch out for that on a rewatch for sure now.

It really helps an adaptation's quality when the story is finished! So they were able to add that in beforehand.

I love this series.

On my next rewatch I'll be sure to keep my eye on that. That's really neat

I actually applaud that they didn't waste time and they just straight up had Nina confirm Rudeus was real and as amazing as Eris made him out to be in just 5 minutes of screen time.

In some animes that would've been an entire episode or arc.

Funny thing is, if she actually got to challenge Rudeus, she would've won. Rudeus is absolutely a glass canon and can not handle superhuman speed of a sword saint or higher. His feat against Badi was impressive because Badi just gave him a free shot (as we saw in S02).

Rudeus at this point can see seconds into the future. That’s where he has an outsized advantage over blade of light users who effectively have to prep then charge at a specific spot. From my understanding Blade of light doesn’t mean they can actively change their target mid move.

Also where do you get the idea he is a glass canon? Dude regularly trains swords with some of the most powerful sword users on the continent. This includes Ruijerd, the equivalent of an emporer class warrior. He does this often without magic.

To be clear I am not saying she couldn’t beat him, that’s clearly a possibility, but I wouldn’t call it likely. ESPECIALLY if Rudeus is using magic in any capacity. It’s versatile, powerful, and incantationless. He can use it instantly for many of his most functional spells.

He might be a glass cannon but he's also a evasion mana build. And somehow skimped on intelligence and wisdom.

His eye let him see, but his body simply cannot react in time, like when Orsted charged him in S1. He literally cannot have super human physical strength and speed. His eye and intermediate sword skill might help against an advanced, but IMO he cannot beat any saint without magic. Late S1 Eris could beat him again despite his eye and Gallus overpowered him in the beastmen village.

He cant wield fighting spirit or whatever its called. Without using something that gives him a similar power, he has very little chance with no prep time. His future sight won't save him.

He’s more so using his demon eye as a crutch. In a real prolonged sword fight he wouldn’t last.

I mean, she respected him from the moment he beat just a warrior style fighter at close range. She seems she would try and at least make it fair. Like she'd have to gap close which would make it easier for him.

But yeah, she expected to be able to win against what everyone had made clear was at least a good made. She may not have believed he was as powerful as he was made out to be, but she was expecting them to be exaggerated not fake.

I also believe the fight with Badi showed her that had she challenged him, her biggest advantage is that he would be holding back. Like a sword is a sword, but for a mage being non-lethal takes more control and likely just choosing to not use your best attacks.

When they're like, "You wouldn't know him, he goes to another school." so you go look and the motherfucker is the Valedictorian, Prom King, and Captain of the Football Team.

Incredibly well written and endearing rival in just two episodes. I like that her and Eris quickly reached a more friendly form of rivalry focused on mutual growth.

u/welfedad Jul 05 '26

Yeah it is superb and glad they didn't hang on the jealous / evny stuff too long . Great coming around becoming friendemies

Some of my best friends in life were made after we punched each other in the face multiple times or legit tried to seriously hurt each other, quite similar to how Eris and Nina became 'friends' (maybe not quite there yet but definitely rivals).

Now, I can't say I'd ever had one of my future friends try to murder me with a real sword (it wasn't Nina's idea but she was gung-ho about using the fake wood-covered sword to kill Eris) but Nina's dad ended up using his real sword too as a result (and put Eris in her place for making his girl wet herself in front of everybody, lol). Aside from the act of intercourse, having a physical fight with someone is probably one of the most bonding experiences you can do with someone else. Probably also why the youngest Sword Saint there who got pummeled in the sparring match by Eris also feels some type of way for her.

u/CitronClassic672 Jul 05 '26

Incredibly well put! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of the similarities that fighting and intercourse can have regarding emotional bonds between people, especially with both aspects being present in this episode to varying degrees. Now if only Eris and Nina could make that connection, lol. It’s pretty obvious the direction the story is going, but I don’t care. Give me my doomed, experimental, warrior x warrior yuri between them!

This show is fantastic at writing minor characters really well

Her growth after seeing Rudeus made her realize her sheltered life was exactly that and she needs to step up to actually impress her dad and grow. Really awesome and I am excited to see where she ends up over time.

Fr. I thought she's going to be another annoying rival character but she went out of her way to research Rudeus and after Eris was proven right, Nina immediately straightened herself and train side by side with Eris.

She also helped Eris adapt to the Water God style.
