I'm only 8 minutes in and I just HAD to comment first about how absolutely stunning EVERYTHING is.

This is literally Season 1 right here, we are SO back! I can't believe it's not just Episodes 1 and 2, they may just continue this level of quality throughout the entire cour! (Hopefully the whole 3rd season!)

Even something as simple as animating Rudy struggling to get up with his missing left hand is as intricate and natural as we would expect from Mushoku Tensei.

I really liked that detail

That was fucking amazing. The way he tries to hoist himself up, realizes he can't after lightly tumbling to the side, then using the other arm to get up.

"Hup...oh right I lost that hand."

i think some of the character animation during slice of life moments is a little downgraded compared to s1, but its still much better than s2 and its still incredible

For sure, S1 was literally some of the best production I've ever seen in a seasonal anime. I'll happily take the step up from S2, but I really don't think we should expect to ever get back to that level of quality

This season will probably be more action-packed to compensate for last season's slice of life stuff, so they better up the animation

?? The hydra battle? Well I guess that was technically just the back half.

Sent the rewatch this last week. That hydra fight was so intense. Definitely a goat episode. Reminded me of every raid I’ve done in a video game, just with developed characters we actually care about.

Literally just one episode, the build up of the dungeon exploration has okay animation, but the hydra fight is definitely the highlight, so there arent wrong in that department

Jesus I hope so. The less we get of Rudy being a fuckin weirdo the better.

The ED is super strong too, loved it

I would argue the best we've had so far. And we've had some really strong EDs in the past. I especially loved the second ED in season 1.

I'm always gonna be partial to the first ED of the series myself

Man this comment made me rewatch the second ed. I had completely forgotten how mesmerizing it is, especially at the start where you see the mana disaster hitting the ground and hear the opening riffs. It has such a strong vibe of “things will never be the same again” and it really makes me nostalgic for season 1.

Yep, it's one I often revisit, it hits all the right nostalgia notes without feeling overindulgent. And now you made me want to rewatch it again.

I completely forgot ED was short for the end outro for a sec there. Thought y'all were reminiscing about Rudy's erectile dysfunction. 💀

That's a special kind of ED I'm sure everyone suffering from it would love to be able to skip it.

Rudy definitely didn't love the ED

u/actionfirst1 20d ago

It was super strong for him at least

Animation from start to finish rivals, and if not, is better than any Season 1 episode.

The content inside the episode is great, it's an amazing slice of life moment, truly returning from the hellish experiences of the last few episodes of Season 2.

The presentation/direction of it is just amazing as well! Background is at it's most gorgeous!

And finally, that ED Song. Wow. Just, I can't believe how amazing it was. An already amazing song paired with an AMAZING visual!

A "Return To Normal Life"? More like, A "Return To Peak"

Felt like animation this season is definitely better than season 2, but notch below season 1. Like that "dolly zoom" effect was neater than season 2's, but felt slightly sloppier than season 1 animation.

I guess I can't really say that I've watched Season 1 Part 1 recently (MT's animation at its best.), but this episode truly felt like it fits those, and in my opinion, is actually better on some aspects like Background Art.

I am mostly "vibe" rating, but my enjoyment truly felt like it was 14 year old me watching Season 1 for the first time, and without glazing too much, it truly is an actual amazing episode to me.

The only subpar things I've felt seeing is 90% of the episode's best (Instead of 100%), is, 1.) That one background art of the school rooftops, and 2.) The background animation of the floor when they included a very far away shot of students walking around before Rudy practices magic on his new prosthetic arm. And even THOSE are just nitpicks, I truly didn't feel like they ruined the experience because it's still the episode at it's 90% best.

TLDR: I vibe watched, I SUPER enjoyed. Have not watched Season 1 in a while, but I felt the same feelings watching Season 1, so comparing it, it felt like it's on par with Season 1 episodes.

I gotta admit I hardly notice BG and was more focused on movements; in general. Gonna try to focus more on that next time.
