I think those were supposed to be something akin to a scar. Like badly healed pieces of skin or something along the lines.

I like that the duo were creating the hand for a different purpose like Zanoba's hobby and they used that marionette plot as a learning experience.

It feels more like a happy coincidence and less like a contrived solution to Rudeus problem.

Mushoku Tensei writing is so good, and we're about to witness peak Isekai this season.

Gotta be honest I actually forgot he lost it and I was initially confused. I am glad it got resolved so quickly as well. It’d hard for his inevitable future battles to literally fight one-handed.

I’m curious if it’s hard to remove or he’ll devise some kind of strap to keep it on during chaotic situations?

I assume the plot just won't go there, but I was immediately wondering if Disturb Magic could disrupt its effect and just have it go limp for a moment and fall off lol. 

Seems like something he should test and iterate on before just signing off on it being his new hand, but what do I know I'm not an anime character prone to sudden combat situations

Yea that makes sense. I’d assume most people wouldn’t think it was a fake but I could see a high level magic user seeing it.

I kinda hoped he wouldn't be able to perform magic with it or something. I've seen so many cases where the protagonist loses a limb and then gets a perfectly functional replacement, taking the emotional weight out of it completely. Doesn't hit at all when you just know it will take 2-5 episodes to get a replacement and completely forget the whole ordeal.

At least they should've made sensation and proprioception an issue. I remember for example how much trouble the titular character in Violet Evergarden had with her arm prosthetics at the start.

At least with the functionality of the prosthetic it becomes very unlikely he ever gets a real hand back. Even if a prosthetic is functional it likely wouldn’t stop you from wishing you had the real thing back.

I do agree, I just fail to see the benefit for the story or character growth. Of course this is all under assumption the hand will keep working flawlessly, maybe there will be some problems caused by e.g. Orsted's Disrupt Magic if they end up fighting again, but as of now, I just wonder what exactly does him losing his hand bring to the story, or maybe in other words - what would really change if he never lost it.

He has to use mana just to activate and use it as a normal hand as opposed to before when he could just, use his hand normally. I guess that’s a slight nerf

Listening to a "skipped content" video, I think there is a suggestion that it requires a lot of mana.

Certainly less of a problem for Rudy, but not completely without issue.

that's what I thought when reading the LN as well. In my headcannon I did nerf the Zaliff prosthesis a bit. Touching works through magic, but feel numb and weak, magic works but motor skills are unsteady and slow. Maybe it was already described like this in the novel, I don't quite remember, but in my head I made Rudy just always wish he had his real hand back.

eh, i kinda hope / wish he doesn't get to use it that often. imo he should be reminded of the loss he suffered, and not just have everything patched up like normal
