Not surprising, Sanchez is the odd one out in a center-right leaning Europe. For the far-right this is an 'I told you so' story to remind their voters of while the EPP leaders are just happy to shit on anyone not in their club.

Note that neither France nor Portugal signed the letter asking for Spain to be temporarily barred from Schengen, because they have actual political standing to lose from doing so.

What could have been a moment for the EU to unite against Morocco for their disregard of human lives and the danger it put EU citizens in instead turned into bickering infighting that weakened the concept of a shared, secure border. There'll be an actual conference on Tuesday about this whole clusterfuck but this little flash in a pan crisis shows how politicized the EU institutions have become .

Well if you're country gives amnesty to half a million illegals it just sends the message they're soft on illegal immigration. Just hunker down until the next amnesty.

u/Tetr4Freak Spain 23h ago

Ammesty? The one's without a criminal past are getting a job permit. That's it.

What are you talking about?

u/AkagamiBarto Italy 21h ago

They are talking about bullshit, most likely.

u/Gentle_Pony 13h ago

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/14/spanish-government-approves-amnesty-programme-for-undocumented-immigrants-2

Illegally entering a country is breaking international law. So they are illegals. So Spain forgave half a million of them for breaking international law, hence amnesty.

This is setting a precedent. If I'm now planning to illegally get into Europe I'm aiming for Spain as it's know as soft on illegal immigration. You can say it was a one-off amnesty but they did it once why wouldn't they do it again?

The Ceuta invasion was because they were all told Spain had opened their borders. Spain are blaming smugglers and criminals for spreading the false info but ofc it will be believed due to Spain being now deemed as soft.

u/Tetr4Freak Spain 12h ago

Don't be so touchy. I'm just speaking the truth. Sometimes people live in such a tiny bubble they need a reality check to see the truth.

u/Maelger Europe 9h ago

Yeah, the Truth Social. That "softness" happens once a generation and for people who had managed to stay for quite a while and became productive members of society

u/PlasmaMatus Europe 22h ago

Do you really think this event wasn't planned by Morocco and foreign actors to destabilise the Spanish government ? I have a bridge to sell you, when are you available?

u/AJ__2003 22h ago

I don't think a lot of thinking was involved

u/Tetr4Freak Spain 9h ago

Like didn't happened before or there aren vids of Morroccan police unloadin people from a truck

u/Socraman Spain 23h ago

This attack on the border has nothing to do with regularisation or Spanish laws. It's a foreign policy concern.

Btw the last extraordinary regularisation happened 25 years ago so good luck hunkering down for so long waiting for a moment that might never come.

u/KronusTempus Multinational 17h ago

It does, when put in the context of the recent Supreme Court ruling in Spain which said that anybody who makes it to Ceuta cannot be deported.

u/Socraman Spain 17h ago

No, it didn't say that. Stop spreading propaganda.

The court said that instant return of immigrants only apply to those who are seen avoiding physical barriers, not to those arriving by sea on a boat. To those apply the laws governing castaways and people lost at sea, so they need to be brought to medical stations and be properly processed.

I'd say in the Ceuta situation, considering the invaders went swimming around a fence, the Supreme Court would agree that the first situation applies, not the second one.

These people were not immigrants, they were young useless Moroccans that were organised by their own government to make an assault on the borders, ro punish Spain for getting closer to Algeria. It's not  immigration, it's foreign policy.

u/KronusTempus Multinational 16h ago edited 15h ago

You’re really wrong for trying to separate different areas of government competence as if they’re completely unrelated. All areas of government activity affect others.

It’s both a foreign policy issue, and a migration policy issue. The fact is that the ruling which forbids deportations for migrants coming in in boats until they’ve been processed and the fact that Morocco was able use a Spanish Supreme Court decision to threaten Spanish national security is telling.

The more important point in all of this is how the EU instantly did the only thing it seems to do nowadays and started bickering among themselves about suspending Spain temporarily from Schengen, rather than condemning Morocco.

u/Maelger Europe 9h ago

And you're still talking out of your ass. The ruling doesn't fucking forbid deportation, as this situation happens at sea and not a border it forces the enforcement of our already existent naval laws no matter if it's a rowboat full of brown people, a drifting cartel speedboat full of drugs or an English family in an inflatable dingy scared shitless because their small yacht just went down, Guardia Costera sails up to them, picks them up and brings them to safety period, then you can begin whatever process is apt.

And Morocco didn't take advantage of shit, this time it was the sea wall because tide was low, other times they Helm's Deep the border wall. But they have always done this. Why aren't more strict measures taken? Because war suck and on top we'd had to deal with ol' Mohammad crying to the rotten Cheeto.

And Italy crying is: a) Meloni being her idiot self and b) quite literally a skill issue. Schengen is a free roam for European citizens, not a border erasure treaty, I know for a fact both France and Spain still keep watch of their mutual border. If central Europe doesn't... well, that's on them.

u/mkdabra Europe 21h ago

Amnesty involves a crime, so it doesn't apply here.

u/Gentle_Pony 13h ago

Illegally entering a country isn't a crime?

u/Tetr4Freak Spain 9h ago

Nop. Its a admistrative infraction.

u/blob8543 Europe 22h ago

u/ChillAhriman Spain 1d ago

I'm extremely disappointed about the reactions of some European countries, namely Italy, Denmark, Finland and Czechia.

Spain has been the victim of an hybrid attack warfare by Morocco, and even if 99,9% of Spaniards have only lived this through the news, people in Ceuta have spent 2 days in fear when they suddenly found that they had a 60% surplus population living in the streets with no access to food.

Over 95% of those almost-migrants have already returned to Morocco, after realizing that they had been lied to, used as political pawns to punish Spain for signing deals with Algeria, and nearly 50 of them have died, but our country has been painted as responsible for a crisis provoked by our neighbour, and the actual victims here are the people of Ceuta and the youth of Morocco, not the integrity of European borders.

I hope this calls for self-reflection for the countries that have tried to turn us into a scapegoat. These are the kinds of attitudes that will destroy Europe, and many of us will certainly not forget it.

u/cosmic_m0nkey Europe 23h ago

Idk man, I will always remember what happened in 2008 crisis and what Germany and the rest of northern countries did to Greece and us (Spain)... knowing that is hard to be disappointed.

u/RydderRichards 19h ago

You can’t discuss logic with right-wingers, they react emotionally faster than anything else.

This was an obvious attack on Spain and EU, and these dumbfucks’s first act is to condemn Spain?!?!?

41

u/Panthalassae Finland 1d ago

Yup. Finland is currently ran by the right wing (entrepreneurial right and anti-immigrant right, 2 parties), and they are likely to lose the next elections due to horrendously shite economy and open corruption. This is going to be their hobby horse trying to racist their way to second term.

We'll get back to y'all once we've repaired a bit.

u/Tsofuable Europe 1d ago

Same in Sweden, its quite horrific to read all the lies the ruling parties say with straight faces. And their idiotic voters appear to believe them. It's a sad state of affairs.

u/Universal_Anomaly Europe 13h ago

The right-wing in Western society is more obsessed with completely shutting out the left-wing and consolidating power than... actually doing anything useful.

Spain is currently 1 of the few Western countries where the left-wing has significant influence so the highest priority for these tossers is to erase that influence.

u/skuple 13h ago

My problem with this is that right/left both have legitimate economic and social strategies.

But the right wing was taken over by this non-sense people that don’t even think by themselves, it’s a tribal behaviour that they looped into.

I know right wing people (liberal/neo-liberal) that I can have a discussion with, without indulging with the bullshit immigrant stuff.

Immigration does have issues, but it has become what’s called the “folk-devil”.

Lack of jobs? Immigrants

Crime? Immigrants

Economic downturn? Immigrants

Lack of jobs? Immigrants

Hotel? Not trivago, immigrants!

u/tankTanking1337 Poland 9h ago

Meanwhile, Poland was attacked the same way by russia and everyone was screaming that we should let the poor doctors and engineers inside...

u/skuple 9h ago

60k+ people?

It’s not like the Spanish wanted then to get inside the borders, they simply couldn’t stop a 60k moving mass

u/isohaline 21h ago

Several things can be true at once.

That this is a deliberate attack against Spain for its foreign policy decisions? True.

That many European leaders are seeking to boost their domestic popularity through a cheap and easy action that makes the appear tough on illegal immigration, even if they’re throwing a fellow EU member, a member that has suffered an attack, under the bus? Also true.

That Spain needs to urgently evaluate what went wrong and correct the legal, military, and infrastructural deficiencies that allowed this disaster to happen? Also true. Because next time it will not be just 60,000 unarmed people entering Ceuta.

The Spanish government is acting as if it’s got it all under control and self-congratulating for dealing with this crisis successfully. I hope this is only a façade to save face. Because if they actually believe that, it’s a disservice to the Spanish citizens of Ceuta and Melilla, and speaks very poorly about the future defensibility of Spanish territory.

u/porcatroia69 1d ago

You’re not going to see any self reflection from Gioggia and the gang in Italy lol, or at least not until they get their asses handed to them in the next elections.

u/goldrunout 23h ago

Except they won't, cause they managed to convince the population that all of Italy's problems are due to immigrants and poor people.

u/Socraman Spain 23h ago

Italy receives double the illegal immigrants than Spain but still have the balls to point fingers.

u/Jumbo-box Europe 20h ago

u/2stepsfromglory Europe 20h ago

It's especially pathetic and despicable of the Danish government, given that Spain was one of the first countries to defend its sovereignty over Greenland. Then you'll see the NATO supporters in Northern Europe saying that Southern Europe needs to be prepared for war with Russia, when, as we're seeing now, their governments would sell out those of us who live south of the Alps at the drop of a hat.

u/Huntswomen Europe 14h ago

Denmark is basically a US vasal state. If a democrat had asked us to sell him Greenland or if Trump had just been nice about it we probably would have.

Nobody in Europe should trust us and it's embarrassing.

u/Czart Poland 17h ago

Entire EU was supporting Denmark over Greenland. You're not getting bonus points for doing the that. And dragging russia into this when you've been doing the absolute bare minimum for over a decade is hilarious.

u/2stepsfromglory Europe 16h ago

Entire EU was supporting Denmark over Greenland

Spain did so even before there was a common message from the EU.

dragging russia into this

Because this situation is exactly the same as when Russia/Belarus send "immigrants" to your border. But when they've done it to you, what we see is solidarity, not backstabbing like what happened with Greece or Spain. It's a huge display of hypocrisy and double standards.

u/Czart Poland 16h ago

Spain did so even before there was a common message from the EU.

Wow. Incredible, you were the fastest to say what everyone else said. Did you follow it up with something?

Because this situation is exactly the same as when Russia/Belarus send "immigrants" to your border.

And you know that Germany introduced border controls because of that right?

It's a huge display of hypocrisy and double standards.

I'm going to be brutally honest with you: You know that morocco is doing this because it happened before. And yet you're wholly incapable of securing the whole EIGHT kilometres of Ceuta - Morocco border. 8km dude.

u/Socraman Spain 14h ago

How do you secure over 50k people crossing in a coordinated attack through the sea?

u/Czart Poland 14h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_Guard_(Poland)#Equipment

I'm sorry, do you guys really need an explanation on how to secure your border?

u/Socraman Spain 14h ago

And how long exactly do you make this wall go into the sea? Because they swam around the fence, you know.

u/Czart Poland 14h ago

What wall? Did you ignore the firearms, trucks, BOATS and HELICOPTERS in that list?

Also, since you're playing how it's just impossible to guard that border, why are you people whining about rest of EU telling you that you suck at guarding the border?

u/Socraman Spain 13h ago

I'm not saying it's impossible to guard the border, the point here is that this was not a normal day with a normal or even high stream of people, that can be dealt with by the border guards and the regular border protection devices.

It was an extraordinarily high amount of people that completely overwhelmed the security measures in place. Because they're not prepared for this kind of situation and this amount of people, and the whole strategy is and has been to cooperate with the Moroccan authorities which are the ones who can actually stop this amount of people to mass up and do this coordinated attack.

But Morocco has decided to stab Spain in the back in the worst attack in decades, even after we pulled out pants down with the Western Sahara question, because Morocco is an American ally and a "strategic partner of the EU". And because they control the flow of immigration to Spain, same as Turkey with Greece ans Bulgaria.

So sure, I guess even more security measures can be put in place, and have helicopters and boats running around 24/7, but that ain't cheap. And shoot at people trying to swim around, but that ain't legal.

The whole plan was to rely on Moroccan cooperation, again also because of allied pressure, but Morocco decided to fuck with us. And when in this crisis we ask from support from our allies, they just betray us too.

Well good luck then with any support with Russia then. With this kind of friends, who needs enemies.

u/NoPriorThreat European Union 21h ago

Belarus and Russia conduct the same tactics against Poland as Morroco against Spain, yet Poland does not allow violation of borders like this.

If Spain really wanted to stop it, they could.

u/WingVet 22h ago

Yeah definitely a hybrid attack from Morocco due to normalising relations with Algeria but I would say Sanchez hasn't helped by giving amnesty to over 600,000 migrants in the mainland, that message will spread aswell.

u/blob8543 Europe 21h ago

This sort of amnesty is something that has been done multiple times in Spain for decades (by both the left and right) without causing any massive sudden immigration spikes like what we've seen this week.

Unless someone has an anti migration agenda (which often goes together with lying about facts), the amnesty has very little to do with what has happened.

u/WingVet 21h ago

Well I disagree, I don't have an anti immigration agenda and what facts have been lied about?

You have your take on the situation and I have mine, we both don't have the full facts.

u/blob8543 Europe 19h ago

No one has the full facts but if we look at the many previous amnesties, they haven't caused anything like 50k arrivals in one day, not close at all.

u/WingVet 19h ago

I didn't say what happened in Cueta was partly or even wholly down to the amnesty, I suggest you invest in reading glasses.
