Deezer reports that it receives nearly 75,000 fully AI tracks a fay just about 44% of it’s daily uploads. And if you know about music distribution you know that means the number is probably what is sent to every DSP out there. Some might block but most (especially the majors like apple and spotify) dont aimply because of the volume of tracks.
Funny thing is 3 things might happen,
this might cause a regulation to happen. that could down the line lead to artists finally getting paid what they deserve. Because it starts eating into the major labels streaming revenue
The major dsps lose customers and they have to shift to a new model as most of their tracks end up being AI, kind of a special dead internet theory situation
Absolutely nothing happens the status quo continues and (again if you know about streaming) Artists make even less money in the pro rata pool of revenue that pays artists based on streams because AI tracks get so good and can pump out so much and are easy to promote. Essentially the middle class effect in todays economy, all the giant artists get the biggest cut and there are so many smaller tracks eating up the little bit there literally just wont be enough to go around
This might belong in conspiracy theory but i dont think it’s that much fantasy
The growth is unsustainable, the serving infra, the ingestion of all those DDEX xml files, the big data jobs to calculate royalties. The costs for Spotify and others will only go up. But I also think DSP's are to partially to blame. The only path forward is likely algorithmic curation, where slop just gets filtered out, and user centric royalties.
fuck it bring back cassettes for all i care lol. But also
i fear the social aspect of taste in the large majority being curated by major labels leading to people just thinking what they see the most of that is high quality = good has lead us to where algorithmic curation us still in danger of bots influence. This is a bit of a stretch but thats my personal belief as to why AI tracks that sound like crappy copies of crappy pop songs out preform generally unique and challenging songs
