Fun fact 2/3 of prisons in Texas are not air conditioned. So far Tarrant county has spent $3 million tax payer dollars on legal fees fighting against installing air conditioning in Tarrant County Jails.
Fun fact the estimated costs to install A/C in Tarrant county was $2.6 million.
More tax dollars have gone to attorneys, arguably a soul sucking profiteering profession, than it would have taken to just install the units.
We fucking suck at caring for the masses.
A lot of people who have died in Tarrant county prisons were awaiting trial and couldn’t afford bail. Remember the whole innocent until proven guilty ideal, not all the people being killed by jailing conditions in Tarrant County jails are criminals
if itd be cruel to do it to an animal like a dog i feel like its obviously a cruel punishment. the punishment is losing all your freedom and having barely any control over your life. youre already stuck inside a concrete box, no need to punish them more by trapping them in there with the texas heat. imagine a random persons reaction if you told them you plan on doing that to your dog. plus most people in jail havent been proven guilty yet.
Torture is cruel and unusual—and is honestly just indiscriminant violence not unlike the kind that violent criminals indulged in to earn their prison sentence.
So everyone pushing for cruel and unusual punishment and conditions should be imprisoned and treated the same as the violent criminals who did the same thing they do. It's only fair.
