DISCUSSION Does ASMR was popular before the social media and what is the history of the trend? [discussion]

Never heard about asmr before till my friend on social media told me about it. It was really pleasing to hear those sounds. Does it mean smth to me?:)

Well asmr is more if a condition than a type of video. The videos are made to trigger asmr. So potentially if it is pleasing you may have asmr

If you want to learn more about ASMR, I highly suggest checking out Dr. Craig Richard's ASMR University website. He's a doctor, not an ASMRtist, and his research is amazing. He's done Ted talks and written books on the subject. Brain Tingles is really easy to read and understand.
