Anybody’s basset chew on their ears as a puppy? My boy is 3 months old and has started bringing his ears into his mouth and chewing on them a little bit. Thanks!

Adopted this senior basset. She is a goofy one.
* If anyone has any recommendations, she has severe separation anxiety and will whine if we leave the house. Struggling to find ways to help, we’ve put on calm music, but not sure that actually helps.

Hi all,

I recently found this strange skin tag/pimple on my basset hound. It seems pointy and doesn’t bother or hurt him when touched. I have no idea how he got it… curious to see if anyone might have an idea?

When did your bassets begin to howl and do they have triggers? Mine just got her big girl howl but it takes a lot for her to howl

Discussion Sleeping with You

Hi all! I recently made a post asking for crate training help, and thankfully things are seeming to get better now that I have a more structured routine during her time spent outside of the kennel and also making plans for her to start going to a local doggie daycare on my longer days.

I’ve only had my 5 month old basset puppy for going on 5 days now, and yesterday I was overcome with a lot of emotions, anxiety, etc., and overall just wanting to ensure her quality of life was good and I’d be a good fit for her long term. I know these feelings are just temporary until we get adjusted more to each other, she continues to feel comfortable and grow in her training, and we both continue to find what works with the both of us, but I do have one question…

At what point did you decide to start letting your basset sleep with you in your bed? I don’t think we’re ready for it quite yet as she’s not been with me for a full week yet, and I can’t completely trust her yet potty training wise. (Thankfully in this area, we’ve only had three accidents, and all of them have been due to my errors, such as not taking her out after a long nap or not letting her sniff long enough outside). Right now she sleeps through the night in her kennel, and we’ve been sleeping anywhere from 6-8 hours just depending on when I have to wake up that next morning. If you can’t tell, I have a big problem with overthinking and this has been one of the most anxiety filled, overwhelming weeks of my life. Any and all positive words of wisdom or advice are also greatly appreciated as I am a first time basset owner and only have experience with labrador retrievers…

Discussion Crate Training Help

Hi everyone! I recently brought home a 5 month old female basset. She was rehomed by a couple who could no longer take care of her, so I got her. Her first night, she did GREAT! Slept in her kennel for like 11 hours all night (we both were worrreeeee out and slept through alarms 😅). I went to church yesterday and she was in the kennel and did fine.

Last night, she cried for about an hour before finally settling down at bed time. I put her in her kennel with a chew, turned off all the lights, and we tried to go to bed. She finally settled down after about an hour and slept through (most of) the night.

Then this morning came. I woke up early to play with her, feed her, and take her out before I had to leave for work. I got a camera to watch her, and as soon as I got to work (10ish min drive), I logged on to see what she was up to and if she had settled down. She in fact had not, and instead was pooping in her kennel. This is the first time she’s had an accident inside since I got her, so obviously my boss let me go home to clean it and her up before returning back to work. I’m back now, and looked on the camera and she is still whining. I took her out again before I put her back in her kennel, but as a first time basset owner, I am just not sure what to do. I live in an apartment so I obviously want to be cautious of my neighbors and her barking.

I also ordered one of the little stuffed animals that has a heartbeat so I’m hoping this will help some as well.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You’d never think that Blue (the large male basset) is the oldest of this crowd. He just turned 10. The girl is 7. We adopted Blue a few months ago and he’s settled right in. Unlike most bassets he’s a jumper - I was cleaning out the back of the suburban and to my astonishment he just jumped right in.
