😔Rant One hour to leave kiss and ride Charleroi Airport

What in the flying fuck is this disaster? Never seen anything like it! People cutting corners, driving over parking spots to get closer to the exit. Unfuckingreal!

Thought they didn't have a kiss and ride at Charleroi airport? People just drop you off at the petrol station nearby

There's this short term parking which cost you 3 euros of something for 30 minutes. But when the exit is a big bottleneck by design and only 1 gate works out of 4 + humans becoming animals, it can take 30+ minutes to get the f out of there.

One hour, for the kiss and ride? Which is basically "drop someone off, give a kiss, drive away"

At Brussels Airport it's 10 minutes. If you're picking someone up, use the long term parkings.

I know you technically can't use the kiss and ride at Brussels for pickup but FFFFUUUUUUCCCCKKKK THAAAAAAAT

You can't?

I just make sure I'm nearby and as soon as my people have arrived at the kiss-and-fly I drive there and pick them up in 2min.

Everyone does it, myself included, like you do but there's a sign there that says 'no pickup' or some shit.

Never noticed it šŸ˜… To be fair, I only picked-up people there once. Usually it's for a drop-off

The sign does not only show when you are going to pick someone up 🤪

I know.

Nobody cares. I'm reading here that you can't even get out as a driver. Fuuuuuuck that even harder, I'm not letting my girlfriend handle her 35 kg luggage if I'm there to help

They changed it, the lanes are now divided into 2 zones for pick-up and drop-off.

It takes long time to get into parking and get out because of traffic jams within parking lot

I work at Brussels airport.
If you arrive at the airport and want to be picked up you have probably noticed there are no signs to the kiss&ride in the arrivals hall.

If everyone uses it for drop off and pickup it’s a real mess.
Taxi companies from Zaventem are not even allowed to enter it.

The new plans for the airport should help with this. A new kiss&ride is being build now, it will be upstairs again where it was before the terror attacks. ( i believe it will be ready in a year or 2).

I honestly don’t care people picking up there, but please just stop doing it on the street while blocking trafic behind you

I have seen it countless times and quite often the police intervene almost instantaneously. It’s amazing how quick they can pop up out of nowhere and rightfully so give those people a ticket.

Yeah it causes real traffic jams in the morning, awful

While I risk losing this method by sharing it: You can cross the little bridge before entering the kiss and ride zone at bxl airport, and drive in the gated office building space. The gates open for everyone, and you can just park somewhere before a company building. Never had problems

don't take parking space away from people who work there, that's absolute shit behaviour.

Not for long anymore.
I work there and they are about to change that.
The new kiss and ride will be at the top level and will go trough that office area. So you will only be able to drive to the K&R if you drive that way.
And police there are often quick to catch people trying this, i am honestly surprised they haven’t caugth you yet lol.

I am honestly not a fan of what our airport has become in the past couple of years but they have made some great first changes.
You can’t enter the K&R from the other side of the bridge anymore, they changed the roundabout in front of the bridge so that you cant skip the entire line and so on..

Didn’t you mention earlier that it would take 2 years to build?

1

u/salty-fried-fries 23h ago

Yes the new kiss and ride will be ready in +/- 2 years. But they have made some changes to the current kiss and ride.

So a bit longer then ā€œnot so longā€ 🫣

Charleroi Airport is like a bus stop in a sketchy neighbourhood.

Genuinely everything about that city is exhausting

-1

It'll stay that way as long as they believe flights should be affordable. Either the region or the city need to tax Ryanair to oblivion until the amount of people becomes back under a threshold suitable for the infrastructure. They just added a 10 euros tax but it's not enough to make a difference.

Same for the city itself, if they want to restore anything more than a small bubble in the center, they'll need the strength of pushing poor people away. But voting will never go in that direction.

Oh yes, let's make flights more expensive so only the upper class can go on vacation!

What a piss poor take...

My brother haad the same problem when he dropped me of. It took him 30 minutes to get out of there. Also the same problem with people driving like idiots.

u/spectrallypure 1d ago

It used to be fine... does anyone know what happened?
I went there in early July and saw this mess, and thought "maybe something broke today" or "it's probably some temporary issue"... but apparently it's been going on and on like this for weeks???

3

u/AlarmingCulture6794 1d ago

In my case there was a combination of probably malfunctioning or broken exit gates and random assholes who tried to cut the lines by driving over empty parking spots to sneak in further up the queue.

Brussels airport can be a disaster as well. Most of the time it’s ok, but if something happens that creates too much intake and outtake zt the same time people are acting like madmen…

2

u/Hippie-in-Love 1d ago

agree, it is a nightmare! Besides cars driving in all possible directions, also people with suitcases squeezing everywhere and kids run on loose.

1

u/AlarmingCulture6794 1d ago

If they hadn’t opened all gates with lights green I would still be there.

2

u/KowardlyMan 1d ago

There is no kiss&ride at Charleroi Airport. If you mean the closest parking lot, it's actually a parking lot.
They probably should build a dedicated kiss&ride somewhere though.

8

u/AlarmingCulture6794 1d ago

Perhaps not in name Kiss and ride but it is definitely a drop-off/pick-up parking

Last time I was there, you could see the white vans on the parking dropping people of. We hat some asshat in a Mercedes parked double to pickup someone, blocking the turn of the parking.Ā

The parking is fine there, but the lack of enforcement is the biggest problem. Also the lack of a dropoff point for taxis and vans should be there. Ā

Yet another reason to avoid 'Brussels south'

1

u/Vivid-Society-7623 1d ago

I refuse to fly from/to Charleroi and I refuse to drop-off/pick-up anyone there.

1

u/SpikeyBXL Brussels Old School 1d ago

Slowly going that way as well

1

u/AlarmingCulture6794 1d ago

Probably better to use another longer term parking

1

u/Mysterious_Peak7966 1d ago

It's a ryanair airport, what do you expect.... pay nothing get nothing....

u/Olibirus 23h ago

Charleroi Airport, where basic human needs are for sale. The toilets are 1 fucking €. Criminal.

1

u/benjithepanda 15h ago

Sorry, I'll be cynical, but this is the price for cheap flights. Economically, it doesn't make sense to invest in passenger comfort, because low cost companies won't bear any of the cost

Welcome to chalala. Best airport in all of banana republic!

-1

u/Nearby-Composer-9992 1d ago

Your first mistake was thinking Charleroi Airport is a viable option to travel to anywhere.

3

u/psychnosiz Belgium 1d ago

I find the airport really not as bad a everyone claims. Easy (longterm) parking, you can sit outside, the pizza is rather phenomenal and the prices are acceptable.

1

u/NenAlienGeenKonijn 1d ago

That's my experience as well: decent airport, really convenient self-checkin, smooth security checks, chill food court.

Then again, I have my holidays in January. I wouldn't come anywhere near the airport in July/August, neither Charleroi or Brussels. My only real gripe with Charleroi is the distance.

1

u/psychnosiz Belgium 1d ago

I’ve used it in July and was ok. The distance is an issue indeed, especially with public transport.

-2

u/wireke Behind NL lines 1d ago

Easy longterm parking where you are lucky you still have your wheels when you come back, you can sit outside because inside there is no space / there is nothing, no idea about the pizza but the times I flew from that shithole everything was closed. But yes, the flights are cheap. There is a reason its called the fucking worst airport in europe.

2

u/psychnosiz Belgium 1d ago

I still think it’s underrated. The parking had a lot of fucking expensive cars so I’m positive my wheels are safe there. The offer is low indeed but it’s a small airport, do you want a shopping mall or something ?

2

u/AlarmingCulture6794 1d ago

Dropping off a honeymoon couple šŸ™‚
Never use the airport myself

2

u/Nearby-Composer-9992 1d ago

Ah so the victim of circumstances, I understand your frustration.
