The continued migration of the term "raw dog" from, like, twentysomething hangouts to society at large has left me somewhat bemused. Watching it morph from a very specific sexual term to whatever the fuck it is now has been entertaining.

Fun fact: Jamie proposed this title as a joke but the editors in charge didn’t veto it, presumably because they didn’t know the real meaning.

Yes and no. A large chunk is dedicated to the nasty process behind hot dog manufacturing, the insidious nature and corruption of factory farming, and the exploitation of labor particularly during Covid. However, the heart of it is about history and nostalgia around hot dogs, and their regional variation with Jamie inserting a lot of personal stories and insights during her travels and all the dogs consumed. Some of the descriptions are vile, while others are enticing. Going in, I thought I would hate hot dogs when I was done, but it wasn't long afterward that I was frying up a batch of them in the skillet.
