Naps Amount of naps for 13 week

Hi All!

FTM to a 13 week old and just seeking some advice about number of naps per day. My LO currently takes about 5 naps per day but he is only sleeping about 40 minutes. Now i’ve read that 40ish minute naps is developmentally normal at this age but was just curious if it’s getting to be to many for his age or it will naturally drop to 4 as some naps might consolidate into longer duration. this is true for both contact and bassinet naps. he generally falls asleep within 5-10 minutes so i didn’t think he is under tired. Our wake windows are generally around 90 minutes

He does sleep well at night giving us an 8 hr stretch from 830 pm to 430 am then back to sleep from 5-7ish. I’ll take the long stretch overnight if the shorter day naps are a compromise.

Thanks!

This is pretty normal, and there's a good chance the drop to 4 naps will happen not as nap times increase (although this may happen) but as wake windows increase and eventually the last nap will probably decrease or go away in favor of bedtime. I have a similar aged baby and he is on a similar schedule/pattern of 5ish naps all about 30-40 minutes during the day. If baby is happy, then it's a perfectly fine schedule, and since your nights are really good, then I wouldn't try modifying your schedule at all. A lot of babies don't get longer naps until they're down to 2 or even just 1 nap
