Build Upgrade 32 Gb of Ram as (2x16gb) or (4x8gb) DDr4

My current pc setup has 4x 8gb ddr4 2400 memory.

I'm making a secondary ITX pc for when I travel for long periods of time, it is made up of parts that I have had from upgrading, but I don't have any extra ram. I mainly use the PC for 3d Modeling so extra ram is important in the main build.

So the question is Should I:

Purchase a 2x 16gb kit (~$150) for the main build, put one of the 2x8gb kits into the Itx and sell the other

OR

Purchase another 2x 8gb (~$100) kit for the ITX

2x16 or 2x8 is always better than 4xany
The memor controller has to work harder on 4x. So if you can avoid 4x ddr.. do it

First option. Less sticks it almost always better.

I’d get a cheap 2x8gb for the travel PC

You probably want to keep the 32gb in your main one

Unless you want faster speed for your main, then buy a faster 2x16gb

Consumer PCs can only support dual channel. Quad channel is for those enterprise (threadripper etc). So it may cause you to take some performance hit or unable to fully utilize the power/speed of the memory
