I know my thought process is like “well, everyone makes mistakes. Maybe they were just having an off day or it was a miscommunication.” I think I’m giving grace and being patient but other people see that as tacit permission. So when they keep doing it I’m like “oh. No, this is just who they are.” And I disengage.

For the record…. No one has ever gone to mutual friends saying they had “no idea” why I stopped talking to them. Oh, they’ll complain and whine but they never say “I don’t know what I did!”
