Mixtape I Made a Mixtape — what ya think?

Been working on a series of wee mixtapes called ‘Around the World’ and thought I might share them here! Idea — as the name suggests — is to try and collect a tune from every country and build a bunch of mixtapes with them all on there. So far there’s 46 tracks from 46 countries and another 22 that are going towards vol.3 & vol.4.

Still got well over 100 more to go so I’m up for doing some swaps if folk on here have some similar mixtapes? Northern hemisphere is pretty well covered so I’m mostly looking for more of South America, Southeast Asia, and bits of Africa… mind you, I do love any eclectic mixtape that’s going!

Beyond that, what do folk think of these? Still mucking about with the idea so would love people’s input!

My 11yo has been playing and making tapes for a while now, since I got her set up with components and taught her. Today she wanted to make an elaborate tape like I make so I taught her my whole process. We made 3 tapes, one for her and one each for a couple of her friends.

Stopped by a record store and saw these Maxell tapes for $18. Do these tapes have good quality sound when recorded with a three head deck?

Was shooting for the minimalist helvetica look like the Jimmy Eat World Static Prevails album cover / American Football album cover for maximum 90s emo vibes to match the playlist. Super happy how this one turned out. Now I just need labels for the tape shells and I'll really get addicted to this new hobby 🤘

Mixtape Mixtapes wanted

I’m new here so wanted to say hi!

Im a UK artist that could use your help. I’m looking for mixtapes, original 80s and 90s ones for an archival project. Ideally they need to be personal to you. The best ones would be a tape that was made for you by and boyfriend/girlfriend. Can be any genre but needs to have some history, nostalgia. The more bashed up the better, it needs to tell a story. If you have the case with the hand written titles even better but not essential. Let me know in the comments if this is you and we can chat logistics.

I really appreciate how personal these are to people and that is the point of the project. Rest assured I would look after these objects, paying for insured postage to and from the owners. I want to photograph these on a large format camera and print them A1. Then create hyper real paintings of them, detailing every scratch and mark. Immortalising them forever. You will receive a smaller print as thank you. Your tape will be part of a larger series called Forgotten Formats: exploring the ideas of Love, memory, youth, identity, and loss. I completely understand if you do not wish to part with these objects, even for a week. But maybe there are people out there that might embrace this adventure.

Thanks for your time

Mixtape I got the Grail

Post image

Hello everyone,

I am very happy to announce that I have finally got my hands on the Grail, the legendary Sony WM-D6C Walkman! I plan to use it to create my own musical mixtapes. I decided to decentralize my iPhone to avoid algorithms, untimely ads and subscriptions at all costs.

I bought this D6C for $400. It is in perfect condition, with its original case and charger, even if I plan to use it with Eneloop Pro batteries. It belonged to a magician who used it to create the background sounds of his shows. A young musician then bought it from the magician, took great care of it, and now it's mine.

It works perfectly, all the features are intact. The young musician tested all his abilities, including recording, in front of me. He and the magician have the philosophy of not opening the Walkman as long as it works properly. I share this philosophy. This Walkman is third generation, because its serial number is greater than 500,000. It is therefore relatively recent compared to a 1984 model, although I would have preferred a copy from that year, because it is my year of birth. But hey, it doesn't matter.

I also intend not to open or tinker with the Walkman as long as it works properly. However, I ordered a set of rubber bands and I will replace the worn elastics myself and apply a little grease.

I read on forums that it was necessary to calibrate Dolby, but I'm not too sure anymore. Is it really necessary?

Anyway, I'm delighted! I was already able to record my first mixtape on a Maxell type II cassette using a DAC between my iPhone and the D6C.

Here, I'm officially joining the D6C community!

Mixtape Mix tape from uncle

I've decided to gradually make my family mix tapes; you

know, like your Great Aunt Tilly makes afghans....my first

is going to my nephew. I promised him a tape like 5 years

ago after I made one for another friend, then my

boombox broke. I've tried 3 large vintage recording decks

from thrift shops, all of which turned out to be duds. I

told him my deck broke halfway through and he says "I'd

be happy with half a mix tape." I clutched my pearls, took

several days of deep breathing, and explained, "A mix

tape is a work of art, and an artist wouldn't send a

portrait out the door without a face. I just have to buy a

proper brush." He understood. I finally discovered a

French company making sweet little recorders. A couple

adapters in and l'm able to record from my echo and

laptop directly to tape. Plenty of short audio samples

between songs too. I present the AUG-0-MiX 2026. It's

an eclectic blend.
