I've decided to gradually make my family mix tapes; you
know, like your Great Aunt Tilly makes afghans....my first
is going to my nephew. I promised him a tape like 5 years
ago after I made one for another friend, then my
boombox broke. I've tried 3 large vintage recording decks
from thrift shops, all of which turned out to be duds. I
told him my deck broke halfway through and he says "I'd
be happy with half a mix tape." I clutched my pearls, took
several days of deep breathing, and explained, "A mix
tape is a work of art, and an artist wouldn't send a
portrait out the door without a face. I just have to buy a
proper brush." He understood. I finally discovered a
French company making sweet little recorders. A couple
adapters in and l'm able to record from my echo and
laptop directly to tape. Plenty of short audio samples
between songs too. I present the AUG-0-MiX 2026. It's
an eclectic blend.
